alright you jumped up pricks, show me what you've got etc.
how was your weekend and how's work?
Not at work (studying).
Got that strange mix of boredom, apathy and rising panic going on. Excellent.
weekend was okay, tarnished by 2 things:
1) Twickenham Spoons doubling prices of pints + taking all but one ale off cos it was match day;
2) went to get on a bus yesterday but Oyster wouldn't work. Discovered there's a crack in it which means it can't be read. Left bus to find a station to sort it out then realised you can only get a replacement at a tube station which I never use. Decided to walk to Brixton (3ish miles) only to get there and discover the ticket office wasn't open even though it was meant to be until 11pm. Spoke to a member of staff there who said they couldn't guarantee any nearby stations would have a staffed ticket office to sort it out. All of this wouldn't really matter, cept I have £10 of PAYG credit + a 2-6 travelcard on it which currently can't be used, honestly if I didn't have a contactless debit card I'd be screwed, how the fuck are you meant to travel on buses when this sort of thing happens? Anyway. I have to go and sort it after work today. I'm gonna spend about £15 getting to work and then to a tube station afterwards. Urgh.
and a bit middle class problems but srsly how can the transport system of London be *this* fragmented?
Thank you. I'll be here all week (studying).
It actually hasn't completely snapped. There's just a small crack which means it can't be read :( it's a Livingstone era one as well, probably had it about 8 years
...which you get a ticket for a pay for later. So you should've been able to get home.
Shitter that the tube station wasn't staffed though. I'd imagine a nice letter to TfL would mean you'd get reimbursed though... they're pretty good like that.
"no, I can't accept it. Get off or pay with contactless". I really should have explained to the (actually very helpful even if he couldn't help me immediately) man at Brixton, I expect he'd have given me a permit to travel or something. It's just such a faff though. I can buy an Oyster and travel cards at Forest Hill station but they can do nothing to help me replace my broken Oyster? Madness.
But still, pretty frustrating all the same. You should get reimbursed for everything ultimately though so at least you'll not end up out of pocket...
I'd always assumed any largish tube station could do it. Not sure what happens with all the staff being removed.
I'm sure there's a fairly reasonable administrative shortcoming which hasn't yet been overcome, which means that you can't do this at Overground stations yet. I mean a lot of Overground stations are old/have been recently converted to service the new OG trains so... TfL would probably like to roll it out over the whole network at once as opposed to some stations and not others (for obvious reasons).
These things happen. Think we live in a society now where technology has enabled us to think that everything should be able to run in accordance with our personal logic, and when it doesn't then we feel entitled to get angry about it in spite of not understanding the reasons why. Appreciate none of this helps Niki get a replacement Oyster quicker but...
Or you'll be able to put Oyster top up on Contactless Payment Cards or something like that, thus solving a few of these problems.
I honestly thought you could.
I realise they can't resolve your specific query, but I think that's how you're supposed to resolve the immediate need for an Oyster card if you don't have a contactless debit card. (Obviously, this does feed into the fears raised when buses when non-cash.)
Why do I have to buy a new Oyster card + PAYG credit (which I also already have) when there are (well, *should* be) stations everywhere selling them with staff who could administer the exchange? The dude at Brixton yesterday showed me how quick it is to get a new one, but because they essentially couldn't be arsed to phone an station with an open ticket office to verify my travel card + PAYG credit (I even showed him my Oyster account on my phone), they couldn't help me.
It's not going to be simple to move your credit over, though, is it? The current card can't be read so how are they verifying what you tell them? It's presumably going to need a fair bit of fiddling to get it swapped over so I'm not surprised you need a 'full' ticket office for it.
Like I said on Twitter, the online method is quick and they'll add to your PAYG to cover your costs.
Every one is unique, they can read that. That's how the sort out shit when you've lost it, etc. Also, Forest Hill always has a full ticket office with, usually, two people selling tickets. Why the hell can't they sort it out is completely baffling given Overground is run by TfL.
And it's likely to be more boring than baffling. These things usually are.
didn't sleep a second last night cos of my fucked up skin
weekend: saw richard dawson, my project went from 'ok' to 'promising', read 'good morning, midnight'.
this week: hopefully will get at least one more interview offer. i need to get shoes and a shirt at some point. then at the weekend i'm going to durham
- saturday walked the dog and baby around the local area and came across a cyclist that had been knocked down or taken ill. paramedics tried to revive him before he went into the ambulance still being defib'd. Not nice.
- sunday went to my grans for tea and then bought the dog a new collar. had a mcdonalds GRAND burger (7/10) and then cleaned the car. now i am going to have some cereal (at work!!!).
oh and for the past three days i've had a total 100/100 cunt of a stye in my left eye. see instagram for photos.
And it's pissing down with rain here.
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
...freezing cold, dusty winds and no snow. Empty pavements, loads of traffic. Sunny grey city morning. No clue what this gonna take me after a nightshift weekend.
GF moved in on Saturday which was surprisingly stress free. Had a nice valentines day evening with champagne and that M&S £20 deal thing which was great. Did absolutely nothing yesterday.
Accidentally locked her in the flat this morning though so she's forced to work from home today. I hope she's grateful.
Didn't really do much cause I was ill and tired. New Irish housemate moved in. She's dead nice but she works at the same place as me (for a rival team).
which means I'm not an obvious fail or obvious pass and need to wait till they can rank hundreds of candidates till I find out. Don't even care really but it would really give me something to be cheery about. Had the shittest week last week and was quite unwell for the interview.
The pill I'm on has really messed me up. Got my period twice this month :(
weekend was alright, went out and did stuff on saturday, stayed in and did nothing on sunday, worked for me.
work is pretty rubbish, have a five hour meeting today to find out what i'm doing for the next two weeks. was told explicitly i'd be spending two weeks on a project, no more, in Rugby doing a particular job, but now it sounds like i'll be in Warrington all this week and then after that i might be in Rugby til the end of March :/
anyone know if there is anything remotely interesting to do in either Warrington or Rugby?
they've sold them so well too, apparently the place in Warrington I'm going to is on an industrial estate in the middle of nowhere, and the place in Rugby has no windows, so i guess it's either some sort of bunker or underground or both. it all sounds GREAT.
and a rugby league team...
that's all i knew about it. can't say i particularly like rugby though, league or union.
i'm guessing there is a rugby team in Rugby too?
no idea.. is it near Coventry..? could go to the transport museum..?
Rugby itself, erm, not much to do really. Places of note:
Rugby School - very grand looking public school, owns a lot of land and lovely old buildings in the town, worth a nose around one afternoon.
Cement works - If you like industrial buildings it's worth a look, really cool lit up at night actually.
Wife bought some more animal-torturing makeup. (Well, I assume it is. I think they all are, no?)
We bought the girl some new boots.
We bought a lampshade for our new standard lamp. The girl played all over the rugs at this time and somehow JL decided not to tell us to get her the hell off our rugs. Phew.
Sunday involved a bit of walking about and a bit of swimming. We watched some more Wanking Dead episodes. David Morrissey appeared as another southern American, but as I've only ever seen him in that shithouse Doctor Who episode I take him even less seriously than Andrew Lincoln. Also, he looks like Mark Gatiss, which makes it even harder.
Do you mean brands like Lancome and Chanel? I bet Lancome does
Dunno, I just presume the ones on that ground floor section of JL - manned by people who look like they hate having to do that job - all do.
except obviously the things that existed and haven't needed retesting since the ban (eg Chanel No 5 or whatever). No new stuff is.
ingredients are still tested on animals and companies that also sell outside of the eu still test on animals. it's a legal requirement in china, for example.
including the B*dy Sh*p, say that their products are not tested on animals, but still buy and use ingredients that are.
They closed the kitchen half an hour before we arrived because they'd messed the booking up. Ate way too much KFC instead. Decided I don't like fried chicken as much as I thought.
Giving notice of marriage.
Picking tiles for my new kitchen.
Relaxed Saturday, then cooked a bunch of Jamie Oliver Chinese dishes and drunk a bottle of wine with the gf.
Then up super early on Sunday for a day climbing in the Peak District, which was lovely. Although one of the climbs we wanted to do had a dead sheep with its eyes pecked out about 2 metres from the start. Bit grim, that.
woke up super early and couldn't get back to sleep, ended up doing cleaning at like 7am. always clean when i'm anxious, heh.
got a bit too much on my plate at the min but it's my own fault really
gonna take it easy next week
Couple of meetings then back to Glasgow.
Feel so much better today for not drinking yesterday, go figure.
Game of thrones 4 should be arriving today. Yes I don't watch these things online, yes I still buy box sets! :)
Got to wait a week for the gf to get back before we can start though :(
I ended up getting NowTV for this sort of thing.
Think she's on here as Zillah these days.
she posted a disturbing message on Saturdays thread alluding to an attempt at suicide
nothing heard since, a few people have posted on her facebok I think
Well hopefully she's okay :(
She's with family who are looking after her now. I don't know much more than this, and I hope it's not out of turn for me to share this info- I'm sure she wouldn't want people on here worrying.
glad she's alright.
to just say that I was told someone is taking care of her. It's obviously a very personal situation and might be better if we don't say much else about it. I know how much people on here love and care about z though.
Now I feel so exhausted and rubbish and teary.
Drank rum all day while I was cleaning the house and watching the rugby and then 'Live and Let Die'.
Our Valentine's Day house party was brilliant though and there's been no fallout from it. The lady I've trying to chat up over the last few weeks was there and is calling over tonight to hang out. W00t!
I don't mean like getting so drunk you can't remember, I mean just suddenly getting really light-headed and collapsing.
I did at about 2am this morning. Was staying on my mates sofa, got up and went to the bathroom and then just suddenly blacked out. My right temple is pretty sore today but I don't think I did any serious damage. Pretty scary though as I'm not just paranoid it's gonna happen again :(
sometimes just from standing up to quickly.
other times just randomly.
kind of go fuzzy headed, bit like the old tv snowscreen thing.. sitting down usually sorts it. plus having something to eat/drink.
hope youre ok man
I get light-headed a fair bit but just had no chance of catching myself this time, think this is the first time I've ever just fully faded to black and collapsed! Time for a few lifestyle changes.
or were you out for a while? If it was just brief it might just be blood going to your head if you got up too quickly or something?? If you were actually out for a while... not sure.
Don't think I was out for long and I feel like I sort of managed to catch myself slightly - the guys in the house heard the noise but didn't think it was coming from their flat as they heard me just leave the bathroom shortly after so assumed it wasn't me making the noise. Was fucking terrified at the time but didn't seem to be in any pain. Am assuming it was just one off thing, only really worried about what damage I've done to my head but as I said I think I've just bumped it really.
chances are it's a bump but if it's giving you headaches etc might be best to get it checked out just in case.
So unless it suddenly causes me real pain I'll just wait and bring it up then I guess. Cheers dude.
Good you can get it checked out, best to be safe.
and think we'll be moving in to it early to mid March. Short term renting while we figure out buying a place. Nice. Feel free to come visit guys.
Weekend was nice, went to the Haweli in Twyford for dinner on Saturday and it was so good. Bloody love that place.
I have to do a webinar on Tuesday night at 8pm for 1,000 people and it wouldn't bother me but it's fucking pancake day. Shits.
feel like I smell of sick today.
and I feel like I'm bruised all over, and I'm pouring with sweat and shivering. Hardly slept a wink last night (although I did sleep a lot yesterday) and I probably shouldn't be at work, but no chance of that as this week is mental. I think the sweat/ shivering ting is a good sign yeah? As it feels like my fever is breaking.
That said, maybe you meant to type that and it auto-corrected.
(Get well soon PO/UP)
which is true, but the real reason i didnt go in is cos i fucking hate work.]
Might ask if i can go part-time
aside from still having some residual chest pain from a wrestling drill I was doing last week. Decided to see my GP just in case.
Went to Daylight Music and saw Puzzle Muteson, Laetitia Sadier and a Barbershop called The Downsman, all of which were excellent. Had a sort of Crab burger nearby afterwards. Sunday went to see the Ruben exhibition, it was excellent Ruben is legit one of my favorite artists, also finally booked my tickets to Newquay.
Works, pretty chill, had some quite interesting news about a new position opening up.
(Which was great) and then later we bumped into CG in Leytonstone Tescos. We were going to go out on Saturday, but my girlfriend was feeling a bit I'll so we stayed in and watched Tropic Thunder. I'd not seen it before - quite good, innit?
Yesterday was spent going for a swim and then lazing around sorting through paperwork and removal van quotes before heading to see Chris+Cosey and Nisennenmondai, where I bumped into CG again while faltering for our gig that's tomorrow night (Ronin and Shabash at Power Lunches http://www.wegottickets.com/event/305915)
Trying to sort out a parking issue with the council this morning and have left about half a dozen messages with various people because none of them are at their desks, obviously.
Ended up having to pay for everyone's beers which was like 400 quid, which I don't mind normally but I at least no beforehand, waiter just collared me this time.
Actually achieved something on Saturday, got a haircut I badly needed and bought some lamps then went drinking with friend of a friend who was in town to show them round.
Watched Adventure Time and ate junk food pretty much all day yesterday.
and just laugh at stories about our dad. Me and ChintzyLacroixzxz got painted as we stood having a cigarette outside the pub last night. The man decided to capture the smoke coming out my mouth and it looks like i have a wizard beard.
an incident involving a rogue street marking painting machines. Slightly disappointed
fingers crossed for next time
I made veggie burgers and was entertainingly shit at Adventure Golf. We watched The Double which was great if perhaps a little dark for valentines.
Work is a pain at the moment as I'm scrambling through all the shitty little jobs I've been putting off. It's payday today though, so that makes everything better.
Spent most of the weekend packing, this time next week I'll be in my new house. My cat, Nancy is already there being spoilt by my lovely new housemate - who is just a total sweetheart. I went round on Saturday to find her painting me new room because she wanted it to be all new and homely for when I move in. < 3
Saturday my boyfriend came around, he got me the sweetest card and a Neil Young record for Valentine's Day. Then we went to the pub.
Sunday, more packing.
"Oh, I thought my friend lived here." Whoops! Easy mistake to make I suppose, hahahaha.
As we'd got a leaflet from the police the day before saying there'd been a few and to be vigilant. But she was wearing a fake fur jacket, heels, etc so I think she might have just been off her face. It's fucking creepy answering the door at that time of night though, brrr.
and you blew it
was invited along. Very funny at times.
Erm, other than that i was an anxious drunken mess most of it.
