fair enough if no one is enjoying / consuming your product, I certainly don't expect to get paid for the self indulgent mess that I spew out and no one listens to, but if I was on the chart show or whatever then i'd quite liek some money
also - doing gigs - if there is money changing hands anywhere then you should get paid

having 3-track 'taster' albums on Spotify and then having the full thing available for download for a 5er on the label website is a pretty good one.
