How far is walking distance?
How much is a splash of water?
And who measures things in cups? (ingredients, not boobs)
A splash is like a couple of teaspoons I reckon
Cups = Americans?
That's WAY more than I thought. That would mean I could say my flat is walking distance from Notts town centre. But if I said that to a visiting friend and then gave them directions for a 3 mile walk, I doubt they'd agree it was 'walking distance'.
I once saw a recipe that said to add a 'spill' of white wine vinegar. A spill?
Like, if my place of work was within an hours' walk, I'd walk every day.
If I was just nipping to the pub or the shops, I'd probs get a bus.
I did walk back from the pub on NYE and that was over an hour.
It's a shit unit of measurement.
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!
but can you confirm that you know what I mean?
I thought I was the only one with the key to ol' ma Dots' heart.
I have no realistic idea of what 20 doubledecker buses stacked on top each looks like. Likewise, I can't really picture 100 football pitches all together, or the volume of a dozen Olympic swimming pools.
The competition pool doesn't look 50 metres long.
I wonder how those got chosen as the defaults too? You don't hear anyone say "it's the size of 300 dartboards stacked end to end" or "that's the same volume as 9,000 cooling towers"
you know an area of rainforest the size of Wales is cut down every year?
too advanced for us suburban bumpkins.
(also most American suburbs are built around blocks as well)
Who's throwing it?
- horses being measured in hands
- half a yard of pace
so close enough that it would be easier to walk rather than drive or get a bus. I would prefer to walk anywhere within about 30 mins personally (or even further) but each to their own. Estate Agents (as with many things) may push this somewhat.
it is odd, they have recipes where everything from liquids to flours to eggs can be given in cup form. Their cups are different to ours as well.
There's an 'interesting'* thing with transportation planning in that people will generally travel 40-60 minutes maximum to get to a regular destination. It's pretty much always guided the size of settlements - first based on walking time, then trains, then cars.
I use the following.
Area: nanoWales (nW)
Force: Norris (No)
Length: linguine (lg)
Temperature: Hilton (Hn)
Volume: grapefruit (gf)
Weight: - Jub (Jb)
Velocity: Percentage of maximum velocity of sheep in a vacuum (%)
is the same as someone walking into you while you're holding a full 330ml bottle of beer
full seems too much
