This is a sorry state of affairs. If any of them are still alive they'd have every right to be furious.
If you're on a plane you can't complain.
Once that essentially arbitrary area has been fully covered they're jacking it in. The search will probably be over early next year
The area where it's believed to have gone down is pretty mountainous on the ocean floor. Perfectly plausible that the plane will be nestled in some kind of crater, never to be found.
A similar scenario to the Air France plane, and they only found that due to sheer luck apparently.
As far as my calculations go, there are approximately 0.028 square miles per person on earth (this may be wildly inaccurate). If we allocate that area to each person we'll find it in no time.
