just had one hours sleep and now I can't get back to sleep cause of too much adrenaline.
forgot to unhook the phone when I went to bed and we just got a call off a family member locked in her bathroom hiding from her son and waiting for the police. my dad answered and ran to my mum and i just heard 'how did you get injured?' and 'stay on the phone to me till they arrive' and someone crying (could hear that from another room). couldn't not get up to see what was going on. the police are with her now and my mums going round. sounds so selfish but I really need to sleep today and now I'm too anxious.
hope everything is ok
as in my aunties safe but I think my cousin is going to prison (or maybe sectioned). been going that way for a while and it's just shit for everyone especially my auntie who has done nothing but look after and provide everything for him. he needs a lot of help but she's obviously everyone's priority.
basically he shouldn't be allowed around women for he foreseeable future.
the above sound brutal. Whats the craic? I've got to start wearing a woolly jumper at work as they've put me by a fire escape that doubles as a wind tunnel. So cold.
they put me on chilled without gloves the other night. hands were even more purple than usual.
It is noticeably colder than my flat and I dont even have heating on though. I never noticed your purple hands tbqh
think my daughter has an ear infection so got a doctor's appointment this morning which is taking me away from work.
anyone been to five guys in glasgow yet?
our baba has just finished his antibiotics for an ear infection. He liked the banana amoxicillin more than he likes calpol which was a positive.
om nom nom
to have a shot of calpol when you're dispensing it.
Don't think it's as nice now as it was when I was a kid though - probably cos it's sugar free.
I'm DJing tonight (AT THIS EDINBURGH PPL https://www.facebook.com/events/590924054363786/?sid_reminder=6251088113486004224) where i'll mainly be playing alt Christmas bangerz
was meant to see Run the Jewels last night but I ended up selling my ticket to a guy from twitter as the band were running really late from the weather and I didn't want to face having to get the last train and not get home until nearly 1am cos I have a lot of housing policy to write about today. Pretty glad of that, I think I'm more interested in housing policy than I am in RTJ2 anyway.
housing mi nister and need to learn a thing or two about housing. is there anything I must read publications wise? inside housing is that any good?
probably also worth looking at the RTPI Scotland and CIH websites as well.
might be worth familiarising yourself with basics of the planning framework though. it's a hierarchical system, at the top you have the Third National Planning Framework (published this year). then there are regional strategies - SESPlan covers Edinburgh + the Lothians for instance. then each local authority is required to produce a local development plan that covers things like how much new housing they need, where it should be developed, what kind of housing is needed.
generally speaking, the national guidance tends to be quite vague (i think in housing terms it mostly talks about sustainability, quality design and mixed tenure communities), the regional a little less value (ie, the SESPlan gives figures on how many new homes are allocated to Edinburgh, how many to West Lothian), and the local guidance will be a lot more specific.
(This is specific to Scotland btw - it's different in England. I'm presuming you mean Scottish Parliament shadow housing rather than Westminster shadow housing?)
fb me if you have any other questions and i'll see what i can do
It's for the Westminster one sorry should have said. Thanks xx
not even sure if I'm going to interview yet and it's not till next week
that's cool. much of it still applies. there aren't any regional strategies in England - Labour had them before, but the Coalition did away with them.
There is now a National Planning Framework, but again it's quite vague.
Local development plans are a thing they've introduced as part of the Localism bill, they're not as far along as in Scotland and not that many authorities have adopted them - I read a piece on IH that said only 20%, which seems a bit mad but there we go.
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/english-housing-survey-2012-to-2013-household-report - I've been using this today, it's pretty good introduction level stuff to trends in tenure and the aspirations people have for their housing.
Shelter and JRF as marckee said. BSHF put out good research as well, like this http://bshf.org/published-information/publication.cfm?lang=00&thePubID=19F007B2-15C5-F4C0-990836C156D907F7
Probably one of the key contextual things to understand with England that isn't so much the case in Scotland is talking about building in greenbelt (different to greenfield) is considered political suicide. Labour were trumping a 'Right to Grow' a while back as part of their housing plans, with the idea that local authorities could overrule neighbouring ones that might be restricting new housing development. I think Oxford was cited as one, where it has really poor housing affordability but limited room for growth, and the neighbouring councils are tough on new development thus reinforcing the problem. But they've crawled back on a lot of that after the Tories started shouting about concreting over the greenbelt.
If you want to look up some of the more hysterical stuff in that area, the Telegraph is really good. It actually has an anti-GB development section called 'Hands off Our Land', for reals.
Will give you an idea of the state of the housing crisis.
Also this article about how the system is abused: http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/sep/17/truth-property-developers-builders-exploit-planning-cities
And these articles, looking at how some progressive London boroughs are seeking to address the issues:
Danny Dorling's 'All That Is Solid' is a good read on the subject too: http://www.dannydorling.org/books/allthatissolid/
These are worth tracking down too:
unlucky. they were amazing.
Are you coming to sunny Mcr tomorrow? That'll be nice.
will bump again
Your troubles put things in perspective - hope family are OK.
Even though some of the content of RTJ2 makes me really uncomfortable and El-P reminded me a bit of James Corden doing a rap.
still don't really like RTJ2 that much, it feels more like 'KillerMike/EL-P and fwends' with obnoxious production. If they play anything of RTJ1 or their solo albums i'll be happy.
Also Darwin that sounds really unsettling I hope all turns around, can't imagine what it's like to have a terror like that in the family.
Spent all night trying to place it. Closest I came was an electronics engineer at work.
It was a great gig and they seem like crazy nice guys, which is why a couple of songs seem so out of place. That one in particular, El-P actually seemed embarrassed about the chorus afterwards. The crowd definitely died down for that one too.
Really ruins the album/set
Didn't go in yesterday, had to face the music today.
If I had savings I would never have come back.
sounds like drama centralz over there.
I'd love a bit of peace tbh.
I mean you've explained some of the shit you go through/have to do before - is it more of the same or something new?
Really hope things work out for you
must be plenty similar jobs about.
Fear I guess. Plus it's really difficult looking for other work whilst holding down the current one. I suppose I should make time.
that must have been quite distressing for you (and your auntie, of course). I can empathise with the tiredness, although mine is due to not turning off Spotify and letting Thomas Koner blast out until the early hours of the morning. Oops.
The highest they've been in a few weeks. This worries me and starts a little cycle off which I'm not happy about. I can feel the low times approaching again :(
Team xmas dinner today. Still ill with a cold and not all that excited for it due to above.
usually i wake up and hide from the cold but today i'm ok but also maybe i just woke up cause i was worried the heat wasn't going to go on at all. not sure but im' not cold atm
i'm only in 11-3 today but 3 is when its nearly pitch black and it's killing me so i don't know what i'll do. maybe walk around in the dark somewhere?
not gonna whinge though.
Sorry to hear DD, hope everything is ok.
And i hope you're ok as well meowington.
Hugs to all the Dissers.
and seeing a top, top bunch o' lads later.
Basel was exhausting and a lot of work, but still good fun.
Wishing all the best to everyone. You're a good bunch really.
the face sit-in at westminster. If any of you are free you should come along. We can sit on each other's faces (optional)
It's to protest the things they made illegal in pornography recently (which included face sitting)
you'll still be able to watch your sado-masochism online if it was filmed outside of the UK.
Still disagree with it, even more so given it directly effects friends of mine.
That aside, whether it is your bag or not, it's a civil liberties thing, that can be a slippery slope.
i wouldn't characterize it as civil liberties either - just governments (again) struggling to apply licensing across a new media old media gap. Or struggling to realise that doing so is just a massive pain in the hole
Obscenity lawyer Myles Jackman: "Pornography is the canary in the coalmine of free speech: it is the first freedom to die."
I have to say I agree and that's a big part of why I'm concerned, along with the fact it effects friends and is also massively sexist in it's ruling.
You can show someone getting shot or brutally murdered in a horror film
You can play video games which you can actively do those things
You can show 20 guys spraying someone with jizz
but consensual face-sitting, spanking and female ejaculation is dangerous?
Give me a break. (I agree with being able to do those other things as choice btw, but it' a pretty stark contrast, and those are the things that by logical step would be on a future agenda.)
he's just enraged by people caring about things
I would feel guilty but fuck 'em. I don't get paid enough for even the smallest amount of self-sacrifice. Having said that, sick days are so much more boring than regular days off ie wknds, hols.
Oh well. Nearly the weekend. Nearly Berlin. Woop.
it was good fun and I don't feel terribly hungover this morning, result. Still think having the Christmas party on a weekday is a bit rubs though.
If you're stuck for something to listen to this morning check out this mix I recorded for my DJ/promotion side project
Hope it all comes good.
Had a bumpy airplane ride earlier. Just been for a little walk.
and I have some excellent leftover takeaway curry for lunch shortly.
Today is a good day.
