16 days to christmas :)
gonna apply for phds and listen to music all night i think
i'm playing tetris to put off preparing for a seminar tomorrow. it's no big deal at all in theory, just have to be able to "summarise" one of the texts but the trouble is it's a very boring module so all of the texts are pretty boring as well. arghhh
urgh i wonder if i'd get away with turning up tomorrow and just not having done this thing, cause to be fair i was at home ill for the past two weeks so haven't really been around
but earn my stripes by contributing when i knew about something.
Not sure if that just made it incredibly obvious when i hadn't done the work though
(Mind you I didn't actually get the email about this, only heard about it through classmates...)
mits' lawyers are gonna be onto you though
would you say 'support worker for students with learning difficulties' is relevant experience for a (physics) phd
If you do a physics PhD you're probably going to have to work with people who have severe difficulties with understanding other peoples' points of view and levels of understanding of a given topic.
I'm not even really joking.
'I think it really helped me develop the skills to communicate with people with a radically different outlook to my own and to appreciate and empathise with others' viewpoints' or something
nobody's coming in the shop
trying to refind my edge by reading edgy book by henri lefebvre and listening to new music (sun kil moon album, seems good).
Mostly just eating crisps though (sensations)
just feel like i've been injured for the past 2 years
maybe i've been injured my whole life and the doctors just didn't pick up on it when i was born, maybe thats the issue.
the sun kil moon album is great i think. so cool that he's found a new way to write sad guy singer songwriter type music this far in
And now watching the Liverpool game, I'm not really fussed by it though so might just read my book.
Basel have just scored
I made a curry which I was really looking forward to eating cause I hadn't had one in ages, but the curry paste that I used was different from the one I normally use and it turned out pretty disappointing. Like, it was spicy in the way that some things are spicy without much actual flavour, just general spiciness. The other curry paste has a lot of flavour as well which makes it really good and tasty.
i'm listening to Felicita
gotta write an essay on behaviour management:what not to do and believe me i am not short of inspiration for that topic!!!!!
what maths are you teaching mate?
introducing them to DIVISION! A lot of the children are anxious around maths so i'm trying to make it visual and play games etc to try get them into maths
It's educational AND it'll keep them in line.
we were sharing smarties, dividing them into groups then eating them
Had a Chinese for dinner though, which was nice. Probably going to be up past midnight getting this shit finished. Not even charging for it. #mug
cos my housemates were gonna be ages with the oven and i couldnt be arsed to wait or cook anything
Haven't listened to it since I left uni and went a bit mad. Also been listening meat puppets II loads. Forgot to unlock a door for interviews tomorrow which means I may get in a boatload of trouble. Wonder if my charm can wheedle me out of this one (it wont)
But it's actually really boring. tl;dr my boss is a silly prick
Basically my silly prick of a boss saw that one of the interviewees had arrived a bit early and was milling around in the car park. So my silly prick of a boss - in his lycra cycling trousers and tatty t-shirt - starts waving like a maniac at the interviewee through the window to try to get their attention (I don't know why). Interviewee obviously looked a bit perturbed by the strange man in lycra desperately trying to get their attention.
Imagine having to see that before going in for an interview then finding out the strange man is your prospective boss.
Of leaving a single red rose on the desk of every woman in the office on Valentines Day last year (cringe).
Except for one woman, who he forgot about (unbelievable cringe).
Someone to look up to at least
Dont know why. Surfy guitars?! dunno.
It was quite disappointing. My house is very cold. Have we had a dis snow watch thread yet this winter?
Casinobay has had some snow over in Harburm though
decided NOT to apply for a PhD cause I'm not entirely sure what I want to commit to spending three years researching yet and I think I would massively regret it if I picked a dud. Need to email my supervisors to apologize for wasting their time. Also I just simply do not have the time to apply for one just now because all of my time is spent working/trying to nap at appropriate times/applying for jobs/attending job interviews. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY hope I get the job on Friday or I'll have wasted two full days of my life. Probably wont though cause I don't speak French and I'm turning up after a nightshift. Got another couple of interviews next week. One for an MP, another for a human rights/anti-poverty law firm but it's only 11 hours a week. Genuinely can't believe how little decent work there is out there.
i always think "well maybe i'll end up doing a phd i don't like but on the other hand almost every person hates their job". i know social sciences / humanities ones are much more narrow than most of the things i'm applying for (where e.g. you're looking at 'modified gravity' or 'quantum information')
if you're not sure about doing a PhD, or aren't sure about your topic - DON'T DO IT.
I designed my project completely and had worked in the area and so was really enthusiastic about it at the start, but 3 years later I'm completely broken. My situation is different to most students (I'm a staff candidate) but I think it'd only be harder for regular students really. It's difficult to comprehend what it's like to spend such a long period of time working on one major piece of work.
Was having fun til everyone got wasted and all decided they were going out to a strip club, so I promptly excused myself.
once our Christmas party is done :/
so I'm marking the occasion by.... eating a pizza by myself in pizza Hut :/ few people went to an awesome sounding Mexican place but I had to stay and work for a couple of hours longer than them so missed out. at least I don't have work to do when I get back to the hotel today though.
anyone working at home after a day at work, unless it happens to be something they actually enjoy, has my full sympathies
but woke up with a really swollen throat this morning and not feeling so great so made the executive decision to stay in and watch Masterchef/chat to best friend instead. getting frustrated that i haven't heard back about an interview I had on Thursday, probably haven't got it because they're looking for people to commit to permanent roles and i just want a three month temp contract. "temp to perm" is the most annoying phrase on job application websites :(
the part-time low-paid far away library one went pretty badly... the actual proper full-time £17k a year one went surprisingly well. HOWEVER if i get offered a full-time job (horrible shift work as well) i'll prob have to give up all my cool work experience and volunteering things :( DILEMMA. but not really a dilemma because i cannot continue to live on a 10-hour-a-week minimum-wage waitressing job. even though it's a really nice job.
should have just went for a phd tbh.
meaning I don't have to live at home any more but meaning I will have to work for minimum wage in shops for the rest of my life. Its shit that you have to choose.
so can't reeeaallly complain. but i also have exciting potential work experience which is in the area of what i actually want to do. why can't capitalism get tae fuck so that everyone can work a 20-hour week for a decent wage and spend their spare time volunteering and making art and having sex and also there would be no unemployment
it looks like a combination of interesting and really dull/difficult. i would possibly have to work on christmas and also would have to learn loads about sports. the only question i did terribly on was 'tell us your favourite sport and explain the rules' and i LITERALLY couldn't think of a sport that i knew all the rules for. embarrassing.
how is your course going heleeeene? your hair is well fit.
PM svenrokk. He's been doing TV subtitles for years now and is very friendly. You could also ask moousee but he's rubbish.
Could do Norwegian subtitles for spoken English as well.
The course is going alright but I'm a crap student, always have been, I just get bored and frustrated real quick.
In front of my family...that's quite frightening.
Feel free to tell me to fuck right off, but honestly, they're just thoughts. It'd be very welcome to turn them off at times but they can't hurt you.
Big love going out to you from Essex always buddy, look after yourself and if you would ever like to talk to an internet stranger and just unload, pm the shit out of me.
I feel like I'm trapped in a constant state of stress and negativity. I'm ok with my life being over I just don't want to be miserable for so long that I forget that there were some good points.
(So I'm told) and I know that what you're going through has been going on for a long time but it's going to get better and if you're questioning it, there is so much worth in yourself.
Please stick around, there is something good waiting for you. It's going to change :)
Don't do that you haven't set up miiverse yet so I can't send you silly drawings!
Former president of the anti doping agency

best band of all time
Too tired. Downing tools. No point doing more work now, it'll just be full of mistakes that I'll either have to fix tomorrow, or leave in and get sued for negligence over.
Just finishing my break at work. Only 6 hours till home time :)
Just going for a toilet break on company time
Eating a Boost at 5am. Think this is the nicest thing I've ever eaten.
feel depressed but not completely depressed
