Got to say, I think I'd choose a Civil Partnership over marriage if the option was there.
didn't realise heterosexual couples couldn't get a civil partnership
On the one hand, it seems fair that heterosexuals should be given the same rights. On the other, this couple seem to want to be deliberately contrary
I would have chosen a civil partnership over marriage if the option was there, just because it's symbolically more equal and secular. That said, I'm getting married next year and we're managing to avoid a fair amount of patriarchal stuff.
you would think the sensible thing would be to make civil partnerships open to everyone and then keep government out of "marriage" altogether. just leave that to folk who want to add it on, even though it would have zero legal consequence.
rather than the fudge we've ended up with. At present there's an equality deficit regarding trans people too, so I suspect that we'll see a case, or cases, brought to the courts seeking to remove the anomalies.
in the Netherlands, obviously.
