Anyone else stupidly excited to see it??
does any good ever come from watching a trailer?
they should start making trailers that contain 0% footage from the film, that would be cool. or imagine if they released the opening scene in its entirety as a trailer, then the actual film just carried on after that.
If I like the look of a film I'll avoid the trailers, they're just spoilers
They're just like a 2-3 minute version of the actual film. Not like in the good old days
They basically just used to chop up various images from the film and splice them together in no particular order. Trailer making has got way better over the years to the extent that every film looks like a must see these days - unfortunately actual film quality hasn't actually got any better.
(By Lipster I mean this thread: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4456885)
...releasing the opening bank heist sequence in its entirety prior to opening day. Worked quite well in the respect that it's probably the only good bit of the film.
especially during the Apatow boom, that some comedies could definitely have improvised scenes between characters or something as trailers
*obligatory rant about dull hollywood moneyspinners*
Also don't you Star Wars fans ever learn? You all always hate every new addition.
I'm trying to convince myself that it's because the prequels were shit rather than me becoming an haggard old joyless husk.
Says he couldn't give a fuck about the new Star Wars film.
But I'd quite like to see it.
When it becomes available can someone post the link in this thread.
Seriously, watch the original trilogy. As a latecomer to the party myself (only properly watched them about three years ago) I can honestly say that is it totally, totally worth it <3
No fucking way.
But wow, this is gonna make it feel a lot more real, isn't it. Kind of wish I had my Leia costume handy now.
By all the fan's mothers, so they can get them all in one big screening and hose them all down to give them a fucking wash.
but the cast for this one is really good
but i'd actually be quite glad for nerds if these weren't all that bad
Watch out for Harrison Ford's reaction <3
Have Leia & Han had some super Force kid?
There were 3 books written when I was a kid by Timothy Zahn that continued the story on and I bloody loved them. Probably crap in hindsight but if they based the films on those, they'd probably be pretty good...
and might dig them out...
I have very very very low expectations (based on the last three films) coupled with the understanding that my love for the first couple of films is heavily loaded with nostalgia since I saw them when they came out in 77 and 80.
I'll wait to see what the reviews are like.
It would be great if the new films are good, obvs. I feel like a generation got shortchanged by the last three films.
They CAN'T be any worse than Episodes 1-3, can... they...?
Those prequals have so much bad bad stuff, but occasional greatness.
Whereas Crystal Skull doesn't have the absolute awful of the kids running around or Willie screaming every five seconds, and instead opts for hollowly replaying all the sequences the thought worked best from the previous three movies.
(In this analogy I'm put the prequels as TOD and the new ones as KOTCS)
and find us the trailer
I think that's still an hour away.
i'll be in work. thanks though theo. MY (T)HErO
Fucking hell Theo.
over about an hour, and how exciting that was.
where they're all tied up and quipping like in a proper Star Wars film.
Turned out that was the ONE TIME in the whole movie. Oh well.
and one of them says "I've got a bad feeling about this"? :P
That point. The proper trailer after is full of flat lines, though.
but I'm excited about Adam Driver being in the new one, so I'm looking forward to the trailer in the hope that he appears. He's supposed to be a villain, isn't he? I hope he just does it in his Adam from Girls character.
Seems a likely Sith costume
I'm hoping the new Star Wars will all be exactly like that. The Mos Eisley Cantina could be transported to Brooklyn.
The odd-numbered ones?
unless he's the guy you see from behind in the dark wearing a dark cloak with a hood.
not that you can tell.
upload it please
don't worry if the fx aren't finished yet
star wars was never anywhere near as cool or good as star trek though, so there's only so much cool sci-fi stuff you can do with it (basically- fly through space, maybe some new aliens or something)
it'll probably be a passably decent blockbuster, but anyone hoping for it to be as good as his star trek films will be disappointed
and convert to .h264
but he's working nonstop to get this released on time
love you theo you're so good to the world
I still enjoy the bit in the Edge of Tomorrow trailer that goes:
Tom Cruise: I'm not a soldier.
Emily Blunt: Of course not. You're a weapon.
Why they chose Edge of Tomorrow is beyond me.
there is a drawing of a Jedi with a light sabre with laser hand guards. Might send an invoice through.
No, they were in the clone wars. Then the empire started hiring 'normal' people too.
The clones then went on to become the empirical guard and view the regular troopers as inferior and shit
but why did the lightsaber have little hand guard bits? Fuck off.
seeing as the lightsabre handle can be cut by a lightsabre.
but presumably the 'blade' of the hand guard bits extends down in to the main handle, and just part of it is covered to stop the owner from burning their hands off all the time.
Looked like Star Wars but a bit more modern, rather than looking nothing like it, which I was worried about.
TBH I haven't got *high* hopes for this, but nothing awful in that trailer.
is this a prequel or a sequel. You know, CHRONOLOGICALLY. Always find it a bit mad when a prequel comes out after special effects technology has improved, so things are more hi-tech in the "past". Right? Guys? Nerds.
Presumably about thirty years after.
This is the warm up thread
but that's a pretty great trailer. They should just leave it at that.
That was pretty cool
Bet it's shit in the film though.
Fucking hell. Everyone will have forgotten about it by then.
i just realised there's still another hobbit film
watched it with the sound off though. will do it again with sound later.
Looked good though. Dark and serious, not all cartoony like Phantom Menace.
That lightsabre though. #prayforjj
properly great all round. and no stars, regular-droids etc. smart move.
Looks pretty bad
that lightsabre tho...
When I read "T-shaped lightsaber" on Twitter I thought the T was at the other end.
I'm really clever.
Otherwise no-one would have known the film was coming out.
The blue tattooine sky.
I am totally on board and going into fanboy mode.
How long before someone does a mashup of star wars and attack the block dialogue?
remember when the phantom menace trailer premiered on mtv, I video taped it and watched it repeatedly. which I was capable of that excitement still.
that was making me reticent. Like any betrayal in a relationship it left me unable to allow myself to fall in love again.
But I've let go so I can live life to the full. Like someone at the start of the final act of a shit rom-com.
but it looks fucking mint.
IS the lad from the star wars rebels episode..?
good guess form whoever on here said that.
Cooler than the entire social board. Even Balonz.
Sounds like he's a real person
its just not a practical design, same with the lightsaber (all these years of liking star wars and I'm not sure how to spell lightsaber)
Return of the Jedi
#ssp #truthbomb #sorryimnotsorry
to not be at least a little bit excited by that trailer
Didn't disappoint :D
Thank goodness they wrenched this thing out from the hands of George Lucas. Can't wait.
(and have capes)
Best thing Star Wars related in ages and first time I've been excited about the series since 1999. Grinning like a teenager after watching it 4 times in a row. Now let's hope they wrote a script...
Realised that what's getting to me most about these trailers is the music. Goosebumps when I hear any of it.
That bit where the Falcon is being chased by TIE Fighters around the ruins of Star Destroyers.
Also, in the scene where the X-Wings are flying into the cloud of TIE Fighters over the snow-covered plant et there's a massive trench in the background just like that on the first Death Star.
Oh God, I'm a nerd again.
That was great
To see it, excited!
Good game, good game!
let alone a new trailer!
Please respond soon. I'm excited about hearing the answer!
Can't wait to see Oscar Isaac in this, he's going to be great as a cocky x-wing pilot.
This is end of days times.
I think I have for the IMAX but the website is a shambles and I've got no confirmation
(not for midnight.. id fall asleep at 00:30.. and im not a TOTAL nerd..)
Can I not just show up a few days after release and (X-)wing iOH SHIT I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS AND THERE'S AN IMAX THERE
I'll have to find a showing in 2D, probably in some dilapidated cinema.
it's not hard to find regular 2D screenings though, don't worry.
probably the main thing I'll be grateful to Chris Nolan for re: Interstellar was releasing it in 2D IMAX. very rare that happens these days, which is a shame cause (a) I really like IMAX and (b) probably more importantly, I live a less-than-five minute walk from Edinburgh's IMAX.
I don't think I've ever found it detrimental in a film though, just a bit unnecessary. Wouldn't deny myself IMAX for the sake of avoiding 3D
mean I have a real hard time with 3D :(
Laser projection, supposed to alleviate the main issue I have with 3D (too bloody dark).
Yeah, that's a shitter :(
which is fine if it's a big colourful bright thing, but if you have any space or dark sequences it all begins to get ridiculously murky.
Moreover, I doubt it's been filmed in 3D and, you know, it's really hard to spot the effect in most of the film. In general I don't think it adds anything at all. I saw the last two Avengers films in 3D and really struggled to ever register it, apart from to note how it felt like the brightness was turned down.
I saw Edge of Tomorrow and Dredd and Gravity in 3D, which were all pretty great, but the 3D was pretty integral to much of the atmosphere/mood/dynamics of the film, and I'd imagine most of those were filmed in it. I've no idea if this is - probably not, as you say.
and what light hits your eyes. Physically you could just project everything much brighter and since IMAX has always put 3D first it may well do just that, compared to normal cinema.
I saw Gravity on a 32" TV and it was unexpectedly great. I can only say that I think a great film is great regardless of 3D. I'm sure it added to Gravity but I don't think it will have added a significant amount.
Good films are good and 3D does very little for that, is my full thesis. :D
(File alongside, stereo in music is often not that big a deal either but it's nicer to have than 3D is for films if only because there aren't really the same compromises.)
I reckon $20bn
Jurassic World $1.67bn
Furious 7 $1.51bn
Avengers: Age of Ultron $1.40bn
The release date makes me doubt it'll top the year chart, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't do at least $1.5bn. Although much of it depends these days on how well it does in China and India and some other parts of the globe. But it's Star Wars, innit?
I think Avatar is still the top grossing film of all time, with like $2bn..
Remember when a seventh sequel did as well as Police Academy: Mission to Moscow?
Just nuts really.
They're talking about 5bn altogether with the merchandise and tie ins. 5bn for a kids film jfc
No way do they!
You win this round my friend.
opening of Nausicaa but with a star destroyer instead of Ohmu ;__;
1. Is this film out soon?
2. Will it then be gone again quite soon?
But then we'll all be excited for Rian Johnson's installment!
So possibly November or January then?
in (the back of the net) by Christmas
DUR DUR DA-DUR DURRRR
DA-DA DA-DURR DUR
Intriguing and familiar rolled into one - so excited for this.
I like how they've only focused mainly on certain characters and locales across all three trailers because we'll have a lot of surprises and sub plots revealed during that first sweet viewing.
