"A study by a chain of funeral directors found the 1979 Life of Brian song had overtaken Frank Sinatra's My Way as the preferred choice of music.
David Collingwood, of The Co-operative Funeralcare, suggested the findings represented "a generational shift in attitudes towards funerals".
"Modern funerals are very much about personal choice," he added."
Er, yeah. A song called "My Way", which is about the singer doing things his way,has fallen from the #1 spot because we're now more focused on "personal choice".
I'd lose a lot of respect for anyone who picked either, but that's a shithouse reason.
there's 23 songs in their top 20
Has anyone on here actually been to a funeral where this has been played?
But then I don't remember having gone to one where any of the rest of the top 20 have been played tbh. Apart from Beenie Man.
But it was turned up so loud in the church it sounded like Merzbow
Elgar - Enigma
Schubert - Ave Maria
and Pavarotti's version of Puccini's Nessun Dorma from that list,
Kind of surprised not to see Hallelujah by Cohen (probably the Buckley version though) on there
My Nan also had Edelweiss from the sound of Music.
I also know what I want for my funeral, and when I was very sick in hospital I told Brooke this, y'know, just in case, whatever. Now I'm not able to listen to that song anymore because it upsets her. Weak.
what would you have?
Curtains close around the coffin as it disappears off on the little conveyor thing and, what's that, some music's starting... "We've got some half price...."
Doesn't matter how close they were to me, could be all my loved ones at once, I'd still piss myself.
Also, didn't know the cricket theme way by Booker G and the MGs.
both great theme tunes, sure, but...kind of bleak that people want to be remembered for watching/listening to sport. am i being ungenerous here? it just seems...kinda sad
kind of agog
"oh he did love football" did he aye?
I hope not.
something like the Enigma Variations - well no, that's not really associated with anything specific particularly closely.
something like a sport theme tune, well, it might be more of a symptom than a cause, but it's more going to be linked to how you're remembered
part of our induction s to visit a crematorium (see threads passim).
When we visited a fews weeks back, the guy that showed us round was telling us that, because the crem is next to an industrial estate, the sandwich van can sometimes arrive just as the hearse is being opened and the coffin carried inside. Problem is that, to alert the office workers on the estate, the van has a theme tune which is played very loudly as it arrives - Yakkety Sax aka the Benny Hill theme Tune.
fuck you balonz, fuck you
"Popular choices in the top 10 include Angels by Robbie Williams and Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever."
List: Does not contain Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever, and lists Robbie Williams as a song by Angels.
This whole thing stinks of shit.
no funerals for those that "Live Forever LGx"
I'll zombie up and start ripping off heads.
it's a crying shame that the theme from one foot in the grave isn't there...
another one bites the dust
instructions to have a brass band play and everyone start to pound their feet as I get lowered into the grave.
My Bloody Valentine - Sometimes
I would like to have bluebell knoll or carolyns fingers (cocteau twins) played at mine.......or deerstop by goldfrapp
died really suddenly. He was only 33 and it was obviously tragic, however his family respected the suggestion of his bandmates that he would have wanted Disco Inferno (he was in a kind of disco funk covers band at the point when he died.)
they played it in the crematorium just as the body was taken into the furnace bit.
More than ten years later and i'm just about starting to find it funny :0
