liverpool thrash Real Madrid 0-1 at the Bernabeu
Decided it wasn't worth watching (through a blizzard) Arsenal dispose of Anderlect in a dull 2-0 so chose ITV. At 3-0 I correctly decided it wasn't even worth tuning in for 10 mins.
and CRUSHED cardiff 3-0. Was great, apparently. NLSWA
was a goal machine(y)?
That's all I've got for today.
fuck off DiS
can't go a whole day with it being this fucked.
but i'm sure emre can
Think it's probably the correct Turkish pronunciation and everyone's just having another Thanthi Thathorla moment.
Thing is, they looked uninterested from the get go, not just when they were 3-0 up. From the moment Anderlecht got one Arsenal just didn't look like they had it in them to put in a gritty defensive shift to see out the win.
Dunno if it was fatigue, underestimating the opponents or some deeper oilball ennui (or a combination of all of them) but it wasn't too exciting to watch from an Arsenal point of view.
Monreal was (understandably) shit, Chambers was crap too. Don't know what's happened to Ramsey, he used to be an all-action stamina machine, was standing still most of last night. Sanchez is incredibly good but a bit of a playground superstar and was losing the ball stupidly when they needed to see out the win. Cazorla is badly out of form. Some other players were probably shit too. And it rained.
In other news, I'd never been to a Champions League game before so that was quite exciting.
Enjoyed some ballboys going absolutely fucking mental trying to get the best goddamn ripple they could out of it.
mainly just for them shaking out that thing in the middle of the pitch along to the music and then the roar. shame we're too shite for CL now.
we were a bit vulnerable but essentially decent until arteta got injured. Some of our play in the first half was v good. Then flamini came on with his shite distribution and terrible positioning and we lost all composure, but some of our players (ramsey, cazorla etc) still tried to do the same things and bomb forward even though it was clear our defence + flamini was shitting itself too much to calmly play the right pass.
Ramsey's weird, he started off looking like a rusty version of a really good player who's maybe a bit low on confidence (which is essentially what he is i guess), then gradually got worse until eventually he looked like he had no idea how to play football at all.
and Ramsey. And Cazorla.
is how pretty much all of our older players have regressed at the same time. Flamini and rosicky are nowhere near their previous levels (whenever rosicky's come on this season it's just made me sad to watch him), arteta's muscles have gone, cazorla's gradually been getting worse the past season and a bit and even mertesacker's looking a bit rubbish (might be cos of the lack of koscielny tbf).
Having said all this we still wouldve won if it hadn't been for your boyfriend podolski failing to understand the concept of 'closing players down'
Ozil. However shit people think he is, he's our best player.
if they hadn't given away a silly penalty I couldn't see us scoring. Didn't even gather momentum until after the free-kick (which was all Sanchez, no-one else looked bothered).
Could be some kind of bizarre strategy, but all Arsenal's attacking looked very prescribed and predictable. Even Danny 'Work Horse' Welbeck wasn't bothering to make runs half the time.
Probably not, probably draw and go into the Europa league or summit.
that he dragged not just the name of Liverpool FC, but also the whole sport of association football through the mud last night by dropping Stevie G.
Liverpool looked were doing OK until he came on, and then they looked hopeless. The pundits seemed to think his random balls into the box were what was missing from the opening 65 mins. Bizzare.
but at least he didn't give it away.
Those type of transfer stand-offs like he had in the summer in refusing to leave hardly ever work out, especially when the manager is about to get £14m for a bog-standard player.
"Staying to fight for my place" usually = training with the stiffs, not starting against Real Madrid a few months later
when he completely and utterly owned by Sergio Ramos.
Surprised someone's not tweeted a picture of Bill Shankly crying or threatened to shoot their dog if he doesn't start Gerrard in every single position on Saturday.
Not often you barely register a shot on goal or a completed pass in the opponents 3rd and don't even score and still come away with the 3 points.
Arsenal chuck away a 3 goal lead at their own stadium and people still think it's funnier that we deservedly but somewhat respectably lost to the best club team in the world. Every time something like this happens the drawbridge comes up another notch.
Liverpool are humourless anyway
is when people who usually you can't lay a finger on just for a second let the bants get through the armour and unexpectedly react. Royter did it yesterday with the injury thing. Everyone has their weak spot or breaking point.
Thinking of you clumsily bashing out that post on your keyboard one letter at a time with your hook-hand makes me all warm inside
While the shabs rain down from the skies.
Where's my hockey stick?
Have to take down the competition
Going to have to be properly awful to Epimer to make up lost ground.
can't wait for the West Ham hockey season to start
Surely, if we can agree on anything, we can all agree that Liverpool and Arsenal fans are equally hilarious in their own *special* ways?
We all know you cry yourselves to sleep every night.
because you don't have any, and you're not...special...and you need help to be special...and you aren't...and we're more special than you.
and then get up looking like playing football was the last thing he wanted to be doing.
Not sure how Skrtel is still in the team though. He's got so many accidents in him.
but he has seemed so disinterested and gaffe prone since joining us. Was nice to see him back being an enforcer.
Skrtel is pretty strong and scored 7 headers from corners last year (but probably 4 or 5 own goals, or more tbf) so I can see why he gets played, but he's not a leader at the back at all.
yeah, you still won - but Skrtel and Lovren are a fairly immobile pair of centre backs being asked to play some sort of suicidally high line and to pass it about a bit.
It is not surprising that you ship the odd goal.
but using old information. what a dickhead! hahahaha
is better management than playing a first team, risking injury, in a match you know you're going to lose. teams did the same in Germany vs Bayern last season.
you've got footballers who could succumb to injury with one tackle, and who generally get tired over the course of the season. if they're important, use them wisely! or you might not have any left when you need them most.
the man has no tactical insight
Andy Townsend could get by.
I feel like most pundits (especially the dim ones like Townsend, Shearer, Savage etc) feel pressurised into having a VERY STRONG OPINION about everything in order to have an impact, so everything has to be a SHAMBLES, DISGRACE etc, when most of the time every decision, like BR's from last night was mostly based on pragmatism, not some grand fucking statement about the Chelsea game.
It's a shame really, because all their guff seems to cover over the more chilled-out pundits (Nevin, Richardson, Vickery etc) who actually look into the reasons managers/teams/players make their decisions, and only then pass comment on it.
It's a strange world where Paul Merson is telling Arsene Wenger that he doesn't know what he's doing. I don't think Paul Merson knows what year it is.
Thought Yaya was a bit quiet, mind.
are top of the Championship.
How has this not been mentioned?
I think there's some kind of South Coast Good News embargo.
It's quite amazing though. They were on -17 points in League Two only about five seasons ago.
at what celtic have got in the way of squad for tomorrow. FUcking hell, Forrest and Kris Commons are both injured, Guidetti is ineligible to play, Goalkeeper Gordo has travelled, but has a knee injury, and Tsokes has spewed his ring at Glasgow airport and been sent home to get well./
FUUUCK. I know it's only a diddy team we're playing, but I don't like the look of this.
We've been the standout team in England over the last four or five seasons - full of spirit, tough, never know when they're beat...seems to have evaporated since May. We're getting routinely outplayed by very average sides every week, and even the most reliable players can't be arsed. Hope the board aren't too proud to get rid of Pellegrini.
Juninho& Ravanelli 'Boro team. Aguero and Silva plus 9 2nd division level cloggers.
The collapse of the basic is just odd. Technically very good footballers are all of a sudden unable to pass the ball more than 5 feet, stand in the right place, or time a run.
I'm not sure who got my season ticket, but boy they're lucky. A strikerless formation at home to Brentford. Fraytt, Assombalonga and Patterson on the bench!
It's two nil and apparently could've been four or five. Fawaz is going to be sharpening the axe at this rate! Poor Pearce :(
Let's face it. We all knew he'd be shite. Lose the next one and he's a goner.
shouldn't mask the fact that we're rubbish, but jesus fucking christ.
seems to be upon us.
Bet Platini is pissing himself laughing.
otherwise tomorrow's thread will be so fucking tedious
this is pretty funny
Not as bad as City, but still - pretty bad.
the silent backtrack when the replay of the dive was shown. top commentating.
Kun going full Ashley Young.
But City are rubbish as well, deserve all they get, and Toure's red was warranted.
made the best impression in the end.

Anthony Amodeo: City end w/ 9 men. Chelsea scrape a draw against Maribor. Arsenal capitulate at home. LFC "reserves" made the best impression.
For their capitalist ways
Chill out, Castro
wouldnt be surprised if the top 4 (and the title obvs) was more or less decided by the end of march though. Shaping up to be one of the worst seasons in the premier league era atm i reckon.
I'll actually be surprised if Pellegrini sees out the season now. Brought in to get us to the latter stages of this competition, utterly fucked it, has looked and sounded lost since August. Even setting aside Yaya, who plays for noone, noone else is for him either.
Yaya can't play if hes not allowed to sleep til noone
Just against poorer opposition and with referees who don't favour the bigger sides as much.
Toure rocked the boat in the summer, the club didn't ship him on. It's upset a very happy dressing room and has undermined a manager who can't work under pressure.
We've had rock groups every time, coupled with bad luck on the field has meant we've never managed to build any momentum, or had any sort of victory over big opposition (Bayern in hibernation mode notwithstanding) that we could hold up as a blueprint.
Both Mancini and Pellegrini getting completely out-thought a majority of the time hasn't helped mind.
CB is still in the air. maybe mangala will come good, but he's definitely been sub-par so far. MDM isn't gonna hold out much longer.
don't think either clichy or kolarov are great. one's probably OK for backup
yaya is laboring badly now. one half decent performance post cakegate isn't really cutting it for me. he was whoring himself to psg in the summer we should've talked. maybe if this opens again we can ask about cabaye,
not really sure fern1 or fern2 are bringing much to the party. they look like de jong clones. probably got a lot to do with the demise of yaya
navas is pretty weak in more ways than one
upfront dzeko and sergio are great. would like to see jovitic get more game time
pellers looks beat too. even next to his always stressed assistant
first a moral defeat to man u, now this. disgraceful of spurs to lose them really.
surely as Captain it's his job to steady the fucking nerves of the lads on the park or at least put the shits up them in a positive way ...it was pretty clear from about 70mins that an already thin performance was disintegrating and folk were losing their cool everywhere on the park
ref was a major factor in that of course but still
suppose we're just pretty grateful to him in that sense
The only City player on the night who performed, constantly in the ears of players who were losing their heads, spent the last 25 minutes hobbling about on one leg having pulled a hamstring after all three subs had already been introduced. You're talking about a lad who's the standout player in his position in the world here, ffs.
