unfortunately this wasn't the best one, but im not good at searching
though they're targeting a slightly different, US-centric beast
i always laugh at the crying statue of liberty in every single one of these
cant find streams of any of the sketches around them tho so
Got a book of the history of Tory cartoons from 19thC- Blair, which is great.
Think some of those are a bit crap, but I really love that Osborne Eu boat one.
Also (massively man marries goat) but this is fucking brilliant: pic.twitter.com/PL86ryrF
Iraq exhibition. Love this one: http://www.albawaba.com/sites/default/files/im/Abdul-Raheem-Yassir.jpg
the shittest, most unfunny, lowest common denominator political cartoonist there is.
He had one half decent, if not particularly clever, joke (making Cameron's head the shape of a condom) which he trots on an almost daily basis. There's no nuance to anything, it's just all literal. Like, when talking about industry 'fat cats' he just draws a fat cat in a pinstripe suit.
The best one I think is probably Adams in the Telegraph or another one I like who's name I can't remember right now.
I'd post links to some of his greatest shits, but it'll just annoy me too much.
I've a real soft spot for the guardian but Steve Bell is shite; lacks any kind of subtlety or nuance or wit. I used to go to the openings of exhibitions in their old Farringdon gallery and they did one for him and it was rubbish.
Matt in the telegraph is pretty good.
Not the best artist, but usually the funniest.
makes more sense that he's meant to be a condom, I thought that he was making some obscure connection between David Cameron and Maijin Buu from off of Dragonball Z
normally like his stuff as well
The "fucking hell" was because he'd already linked it upthread, saying it was good.
And it is.
cant access it on mobile so he's only got himself to blame.
It's fookin shite.
it's just as heavy handed as they come
It's really whimsical, and slightly absurd.
and it is also extremely unsubtle in making its point. Almost.....heavy handed.
Seriously, this is worrying raking up of things by Xylo. Come on man, it's not remotely heavy handed.
okay then you morons. okay then.
in the last 100 years, humour wise. Like if in 100 years time rip offs of The Thick Of It were still thought of as a decent way to satirise contemporary politics.
it's en established form that people accept the conceit of, and laugh at even when it isn't actually funny. it's just a thing we do.
which is about as old as it gets humour-wise.
top 5 worst comedy things:
1) impressions (allistair mcgowan)
2) this shit
3) family guy
4) racist stand ups
5) impressions (again)
but today's Steve Bell cartoon is excellent:
Twas on the good ship Recovery
Where the Skipper said to the mate Skullduggery
What's keeping this ship afloat
When there's no ballast in the boat
Twould be a fine discovery..
