petition against it https://www.change.org/p/directioners-against-after-the-book-was-bad-enough-don-t-let-them-make-it-into-a-movie
anyone fancy discussing this?
an amateur author writes fanfiction and publishes it online, *inspired* by harry styles. some one direction fans love it. others hate it, saying it's giving impressionable fans ideas that abusive relationships are fine, and start a petition, saying: "After is not a love story. It's the tale of a girl who is physically, mentally, and emotionally abused by a misogynistic boy, who everyone, and by that I mean EVERYONE, will see as Harry Styles. Whether or not the name is changed, everyone will know who its originally about, and we can't have him portrayed as that. Anna Todd is a lying, scheming woman trying to make money off of young, innocent fans, and its working. Teen girls see this relationship as healthy, and want something like this for their future. Please, this is not me being spiteful, or jealous. I'm thinking of all the 12+ year olds thinking that this is love, and that its ok, when its not. Keep After a fanfiction, it's not meant to be in theatres everywhere."
50 shades of grey was inspired by an already-existing series of books about a weird, abusive boyfriend (twilight), and the idea was developed so that it wasn't about vampires, it was about a world far away from that.
this is a story about a girl who gets into a relationship with someone in a boyband. bit different, considering harry styles is a real person.
Erm, aren't there slander/libel laws against that kind of shit?
from vampire man to grey to styles to some bullshit
not a boyband member
nah, this joke doesn't really work.
y'know, from all of the living underwater and stuff?
Simon & Schuster (Gallery Books) have the worldwide rights to the book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/After-Anna-Todd-ebook/dp/B00MS0I9FS/
have loads of people seen what happened to 50 shades and started writing erotic fanfiction with a view to later changing the names and becoming billionaires?
publishers are throwing money at fanfiction, yeah. lots of money in the ebooks too.
they're also tapping into the 'youtuber' market and giving them book deals.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Girl-Online-Zoe-Sugg-Zoella-ebook/dp/B00L1TVGKW/ youtuber gets multiple book deal from penguin, writes book about a girl who goes out with a harry styles type and blogs about it (?)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Pointless-Book-Alfie-Deyes/dp/1905825900/ youtuber gets book deal to market a wreck this journal type book to 12 - 16 year olds
It's tailed off massively now, as you would expect.
"In case you haven't heard... Paramount acquired the rights to After!!! I am so happy and so excited to finally tell you! I just want to thank you guys so so much for always supporting me and loving Hessa and being such a huge part of this crazy journey with me! We all did this together, if you clicked on a chapter, if you voted, if you made edits and Manips and fan accounts and videos, this is for you! The name Hardin will be used (obviously, this is a fictional story, not the actual Harry so the book and movie with be Hardin Scott) and I can't wait to see it on the screens!"
Loads of books are optioned with no final result. Can't imagine this will go anywhere until they've seen how the Fifty Shades film does.
that 50 shades will be a huge hit.
All of the original fuss has died down now so people look back on it as a bit of a fad, the fact of how self-censoring and ridiculous a film about BDSM may end up being, perhaps some people being embarrassed to actually go see it...
Add on a further couple of years production cycle for this After film to get made, and it could be a totally different environment.
if there are hotties in romantic scenes
fair play to her though I wish I'd had something picked up by a major studio at 25.
when did bdsm become like the 'hip' version of sex for mainstream people? It's got to the point where it's now really uncool imo (and capitalism has made it really horrible and sexist)
had a great thread all prepared and everything, including several jokes.
Also just watched the trailer for one of them in that Guardian article and omg that crazy in love cover is just THE WORST
