I'll throw it out a window. #wontreally
In other news. Can't wait for Dragon Age 3, the dev video I watched yesterday which is about an hour long-I skipped through it-made the tactical combat look amazing.
Far Cry 4 is also out this month, I think that can wait for me though.
Is probably the first next gen I really want. Would like TLOus too I guess and the nemesis part of Mordor is interesting (the rest of the game doesn't sound up my street though), but more recent videos and accounts of FC4 sound really promising. I loved a great deal of 3 and if the base conquering missions remain I'd be all over it
I really enjoyed the last one but never finished it. I'm a RPG man at heart so it can wait.
are also coming out on PS3. Definitely settling for a Wii U now I think at least until MGSV. Far Cry 4 will be alright on PS3 I reckon.
as ever while the pricing is attractive it'll all come down to content in the end, which I imagine is a few years off.
I can't imagine either of these 2 going head to head on a premium hardware solution basis, but as a service along the lines of an updated On Live (or indeed PS Now) I could certainly see Amazon getting involved.
Co-workers are saying good things though
My word. How can something so shit be so compelling?
may I suggest humanitarian aid?
I'm not sure it ever ends.
This one was a bastard
and after about 500 holes I stopped going for the hole in one glory shots. Also... the sky and sand must very slowly change colour because mine is bright pink and I hadn't even noticed.
was in comparison to DS1 I got totally stuck on the iron king lava dude.
Fortunately I managed to summon a friend of mine (whilst skyping to co-ordinate our attacks) and finish him off together, but I doubt I could have done it alone.
have bought this: http://i.theboboon.com/blog/2013/08/saitek-x52-pro-stick-and-throttle.jpg
and am happily flying my pretend spaceship around.
Bought Max Payne 3 which is also good
Just kidding, this looks amazing.
let me check in with the ED community....
yep - still going:
Turns out it was just the disc my friend let me borrow, cos the copy I downloaded from Playstation Plus works fine.
Good game, although I'd like to fight a boss that wasn't just a crowd of goons or a massive guy you have to dodge while he charges in a straight line towards you.
Loved everything else though about it from start to finish. Never completed City before my Xbox died alas.
Enjoying my PS4 lots
Abe's Odyssee - right near the end now (finally!) SUCH a hard game! Seems to have gotten easier towards the end though.
Shadow of Hodor was great fun, sold it as soon as I completed it though as the fetch quests / collectibles doesnt do it for me. Think I finished around 75%.
Pix The Cat - kind of fun? Quite infuriating as it just requires you to memorise a bunch of patterns. Sort of like snake.
Dust - only just started this, very pretty! Can see it getting a bit button mashy and samey though.
Alien Isolation should arrive today, super excited to get terrified by that.
anyone played The Evil Within? Thoughts?
Also Peggle 2 is out for ps4 yay!!!!!!
it's pretty good, really. nicely immersive, interesting and enjoyable gaming experience, it's got enough to keep me hooked even though i'm not 100% sure of what i'm doing. i do quite like the open world, even if the game doesn't make the most of it. would be interested to know if there were any mods/DLC/whatever that do something else with the open world, maybe make a slightly different game out of it
even though I could understand some of the backlash. I actually think I might have preferred it to GTA V (I like that game, but feel sometimes that it's too huge for its own good in some respects): though you couldn't interact hugely with the massive world, I really enjoyed just driving through and exploring that landscape sometimes.
Good story, too, and a commendable ambition; despite the flawed gameplay.
am I remembering wrong or did it turn out the main creative director guy was basically a psychopath in terms of how the production team was run?
I saw what Star Citizen looks like. Makes me want to become party of the master race again, it won't happen, but it makes me want to.
"In times where a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment, [we] wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure gaming pleasure. This is how the idea of Hatred - the team's first game, was born."
Best that the media just ignore it in my eyes and let it die a deat .
Puts the fuss around Carmageddon and Mortal Kombat into perspective...
people have been killing thousands upon thousands of civilians in Grand Theft Auto at their own discretion for over a decade.
because it's not the whole point of the game, and therefore hilarity ensues
for throwing somebody a long way
some demos for open world sorta games, where they'd give you a ten minute time limit or something. So much fun challenging yourself to see how much devastation you can cause within that window without getting killed.
but the creator sounds like a MAAASSSIIIIIVE tool.
Claiming it is just pure gaming entertainment rather than trying to make an artistic point, while their official site states that "Player has to ask himself what can push any human being to mass-murder. We provoke this question using new Unreal Engine 4, pushing its physics (or rather PhysX) systems to the limits and trying to make the visuals as good as possible"
They clearly are trying to provoke a reaction but seem confused about whether to maintain a pretense of making any kind of (laughable) statement with the game. It is simultaneously neither pure gaming entertainment nor social commentary of any kind. They would be dishonest if claiming the former, and deluded if claiming the latter.
other than the developer sounding like a momo.
killing folk in GTA may not be the 'only' thing you can do but the outrage was certainly manufactured from the start
Read a blog in the week where you had to go on a killing spree in some game and you could target certain people of ethnic or religious backgrounds. Just presumed this was it without reading the article to be fair...
And I did read that, but it was in the user comments where people are asking for certain things they hope the game had in it.
And THAT kids, is why you should never, ever read comments on gaming articles...
writing stuff that I vaguely agree with.
The game looks limp dick. That it's apparently being created unironically is fucking embarrassing for the people making it, in the case of the lead guy that seems to be quite the feat considering what an embarrassment of a man he seems to be anyway.
And still, as the article says, we're not a million miles away from this in other games. Just 'dialed up a few notches'. Most of the games we play are based around massacring people, though usually with a point, a goal or a justification: they're baddies, they deserved it, now go and kill thousands of them.
It looks shit and pointless.
or how it would even work. That said, I'm famously not keen on Myst at all.
todays League Of Legends final is being shown in a sold out stadium in front of 45,000 people, combined with Dota the MOBA genre of video game one of the biggest competetive sports in Asia.
I've actually quite enjoyed dipping my toes in. Still don't have a blind fucking clue what's going in in the high level matches, but the glorious technicolour clusterfuck of it all is actually quite engaging to play.
it retained a lot of it's 'quirks' from Dota 1 which were in place simply because it was a mod and don't benefit the game in any way. The other ones aren't as obtuse, but require a lot of knowledge to get good at them (or you can just become amazing at one or two characters)
I'd play LoL but I cannot stand that free to play model. It's the same reason I play the card games that I do and not collectible ones; I want to have access to everything and experiment within it, not to be deliberately restricted to a certain subset of what's available until I spend more money. Just hate that model.
I'm just saying a lot of the obtuse game design in Dota 2 is because of the restrictions found in the original mod.
(sorta, I still have secrets and stuff to find)
I quite liked the humourously anti-climactic ending; though now I think I want to find something else to play. It seems like loads of the really good games for this generation are still on the horizon.
Mix up islands vs sea faring? Blitz it vs playing it bit by bit? Skip certain side quests?
Got Bayonetta 2 due this week so trying to figure out how to dip in and out of this but not lose interest in it or forget how to play it...
Skip those music missions, they are nails. Generally I tend to play it bit by bit but in close succession (I need to get back into it). I did enjoy watching Black Sails at the same time as it some of the same characters in it.
Probably a mistake on my part to play it so soon after Wind Waker but see it going on hold for a month now anyway. One thing I hated about the franchise was the constant on screen prompts reminding how to do shit you've been doing for 10 hours (imagine you can turn this off somehow) but its actually quite handy when you're dipping in and out of it. Noticed a few of Far cry 3's traits creeping in to this too. Which is a good thing playability wise, a slight shame franchise wise.
Still drives me mad when you're running and then randomly start scaling some surface that's barely noticeabl . No idea why the run button wasn't mapped to a different one to 'do some parkour'.
I think I need to get over the Civilization mindset that getting invaded and losing the war is game over. It's just part of the endlessly shifting power struggle.
Great game, though.
bought a PS4 the other week with last of us, destiny and shadow of mordor.
finished last of us, was pretty fucking good (obviously). just started shadow of mordor, quite confusing so far. not really sure what's happening. combat is a lot like the batman games.
destiny seems alright, very pretty anyway. multiplayer is impossible until you level up tae fuck which is a bit annoying. campaign missions are pretty repetitive.
The campaign missions are poor, you just need to do a few to get some important skills. Then wander around messing with their army and seeing how big of a ruck you can instigate. And then try to survive the aforementioned massive scuffle.
the system of levelling up the enemy every time you die is quite interesting, but it puts me off just fucking about.
once you've got the hang of things you'll end up making them harder on purpose. It's more fun having a big fight with a mega hard bastard at the heart of it.
pls be my friend
Lord knows why I'm still playing it 3 or 4 nights a week but I am.
The Last of Us is quite the experience, totally keeper. Mordor however will be getting a trade in for Dragon Age 3 or Lords of the Fallen. Can't recommend the Metro:Redux pack enough if you like story driven games.
not because it isn't (because it clearly is), but because it's an FPS - the genre which more than most appears synonymous with people constantly replaying the same limited amount content ad nauseam until the sequel comes out.
I for one am enjoying more than I thought and have found the post level 20 grind quite addictive (haven't even ventured as far as Mars yet)
well I've not played it too much so idk, but it seems to be doing the same level / area over and over again, which does make it seem even more repetitive than normal FPS games.
like you say, not a massive criticism or anything as it kinda goes with the territory. I only wanted it for the multiplayer anyway.
That said, Halo was better.
I'm on my 3rd exotic bounty now. They are TOUGH.
I really want to try the vault, it is kind of what we're working towards. Just gotta get a bunch of shards so I can level up further than 25.
beat it 5 years ago with a walkthrough cos I was a pussio. Not used it at all this time but sadly had to settle on the PS3 HD version as I no longer have a PS2/Xbox and I hate gaming on PC.
It's still a front to back masterpiece. Genuinely unsettled at times and the puzzles are excellent.
stop discussing video games - it's kicking off in the shower thread - come on
Playing Isolation, slowly. Only about five/six hours in at the moment and haven't reached the section I played as a preview. S'good, isn't it? I may have cursed at the TV a few times - OK, so much so that my wife thought I was in trouble or something.
Got The Pre-Sequel to crack on with ASAP. I like Borderlands but don't LOVE it, hoping that this is all Big Things Going Bang, cos that'll do just fine.
Finished Bayonetta 2. Seriously, if you have a Wii U: don't fuck about, just buy it.
Anyone play The Uncle Who Works For Nintendo? Went through all five 'main' endings and failed to notice the opportunity for a sixth - now I can't be bothered doing the five again. But if you've not played it, do:
well annoyed that I'm likely to be forced into working late on Friday night
Have Wednesday off work so if it arrived a day early, that'd be handy...
anyone played Transistor? I'm curious cause I wouldn't mind something sort of RPG-ish for during my week off work, and also the setting looks a bit like Midgar
but it's from the guys who made Bastion, which was really good (if dragged out a little longer than necessary). You're at the very least guaranteed some good writing and awesome narration, and the reviews seemed to be generally glowing.
What console you got? Or are you PC munster race?
and I think you and Ichor have pretty much sold it to me
I can safely say it was one my favourite gaming experiences ever. Well worth the money.
Might replay it soon.
interestingly told story, that meshes really well with the fun, tactical gameplay. I can see how it has replay value, too. Kinda wish I wasn't (by the looks of things) getting quite so close to the end.
This was one of the main things I wanted to do when I got a working PC - go back to New Vegas for a prettier, less buggy experience with some decent new content. Any recommendations?
First off you want to invest in Fallout Mod Manager. Makes modding the game far easier, and works with F3 and the DLC as well. If you've not played the DLC for FNV do so, and do them in order. They're really good.
Project Nevada is what I would recommend first. It's an incredibly professionally done overhaul that introduces a number of concepts which make the game more challenging (or easier!) but it's all fully customisable, allowing you to choose exactly how you want the game to be. Josh Sawyer, the lead developer of the game, also released a difficulty tweak which is apparently how he originally intended the game. I've not tried it but it's apparently very hard, it's called "JSawyer" natch.
I haven't encountered any bugs in FNV for some time really but if they are still an issue for you try http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/ttw-fixes-official-bugfix-pack-ttw . These guys' main project is a mod which allows you to travel between FNV and the Capital Wasteland, it's pretty damn cool.
Pretty-fying wise there's loooaaaaads of things you can find on nexusmods. One of may favourites is one that replaces generic picture-frames and posters with loads of authentic 50s posters, can't remember what it's called but you can find it pretty easily. Also this http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43135/?
Hope that gets you started! Love New Vegas.
I've yet to get NV for the PC at all yet - my whole experience with it thus far has been on the 360, which was buggy as all hell. I guess they actually patched the PC version themselves then? Well, that'll save me a job. And no, I never played any of the DLC. I'm looking forward to starting the whole thing over again.
That sounds excellent. I intend to make it prettier and fairly brutally hard. I loved the feeling of being panicked and overwhelmed for the first half of my run through - as soon as I got hard enough to no longer immediately shit myself whenever a deathclaw showed up my interest started to wane.
That lot should get me started. I'll have a dig through nexus mods and try to resist the urge to download a hundred different ones and break the game entirely.
I'm new to the whole PC games more technical than minesweeper business - can I do all this through steam or am I better off picking it up elsewhere?
unless you can get it cheaper elsewhere. May even be worth waiting for it go on sale, they have them all the time.
And yeah, they patched it pretty extensively on the PC version and as said I've not run into any real issues for a long time. The DLC goes Blood Money - Honest Hearts - Old World Blues - Lonesome Road. Try not to be put off by how corridor-y BM is, the others are much more open. And yes they are all nice and hard, particularly if you crank them up with mods.
I'll probably wait for the next sale then - I've seen it going crazy cheap before and wouldn't like to pay £15 for it. Although I am no doubt going to get more than £15 worth of game out of it. Still not going to pay it.
4 great looking games in one month :\
Assassin's Creed: Unity
Lords of the Fallen (although really the last day of Oct)
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age 3
Decided on DA3 and FC4 I think. Mainly because my mate can play with me with FC4 even if he doesn't have a copy.
I'm a lot keener to crack on with the latter than the former, though what I played of AC:U was super fun, and I was really getting into it. Which I didn't totally expect as it's a lot more Serious Face than Black Flag.
If I haven't played a previous Dragon Age - which I haven't - should I, ahead of 3? They've always had appeal, but I'm not in a good position to indulge in a big RPG ATM.
Early opinion seem to prefer AC:R to AC:U a bit, although it may just be that R is more of a franchise best of rather than doing anything new.
Fully expect to see R on never formats around March anyway.
Oh, and they're planning more 2D spin-offs, hooray!
Just hurry up and make the proper Egypt/Japan games that everyone wants.
I'd really like AC to take a trip beyond its constraints and imagine a future version - sci-fi it up. I'm told the Animus is like a VCR, not a time machine, but come on… That, or something around the cold war and the space race?
Is there anyone who knows/cares about the modern day plot details?
They could do with something more unique looking. All the games so far, including the new ones, while being set in different times and locations look barely distinguishable from each other.
In AC:BF they were really just annoying.
Was always very impressed by its beginning, less so by some very interminable bits later on.
DA2 is a horribly rushed mess. It's a shame because it contains some good ideas, maybe the bravest Bioware have ever gotten structure-wise. But yeah, pretty dreadful in a number of ways.
Based on that and how badly Bioware have become compromised by EA, don't have a great deal of hope for DA3. It'll be better than DA2 but only because they only have to raise their foot to clear that particular bar.
It's a good game. It's just not a touch on the first. I enjoyed and completed it twice.
because it was such a disappointment compared to the first one and I'd played the Witcher 2 recently. I suppose if I went back to it now I'd just find it a bit average.
look rubbish. They took it a bit too actiony really but it was no Fable 3 that was offensive.
They are GREAT games. The second isn't as good as the first but it's still a great game. If you've not got time, wait it out I'd say.
AC:U looks like what I've always wanted from AC really. Looking forward to it but I think FC4 is the way forward.
Was really good.
Also been playing/watching LA Noire, it's well good!
Is "gods will be watching" worth picking up? I like a good pixel art game and the name spiked my interest (as did the reviews). Thoughts?
I haven't played it, but it seems to be a frustrating and flawed game going by the reviews, provoking a love it or hate it reaction. As long as you are up for a challenge you may fall into the love it side. They appear to have added additional easier difficulty modes which would help if you struggle at first.
it'll give you a very good idea of whether you'll like it or not.
for the record I think the premise is swell but looks too hard for my tastes.
Fuck that game.
This is good:
because I've started Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and so far it's brilliant.
I'm not very far through, but I'm loving the low-gravity movement and laser guns. The oxygen resource isn't a valuable or interesting addition IMHO but it's not been too much of an issue so far.
The main thing is the characters, gameplay and humour are as good as the previous games.
So nice to have a SILLY SHOOTER albeit one that still plays seriously well after the Serious Face-ness of Destiny.
I went for the gunslinger woman. Her action skill is a bit clunky, but good for chaining crits.
So, the first one you get the option of. Just playing as presented by the devs, haven't opted to change appearance or anything (why bother when I'm mostly just looking at a gun?). She has an energy-absorbing shield thing that zooms off and decapitates people. Sort of.
but after 4 hours i gave up because it was unrelentingly boring. The online wouldn't work on my PS3 either for some reason so I sold it.
but Borderlands 2 is one of the most enjoyable games I've played.
Maya the Siren is the best character.
Oh nooooo... xD
probably in my top 10 games ever easy. I got the grim as fuck 'In Water' ending though, which in reality is probably the purest one and what the silly cunt deserved. Still, WHAT A GAME EH?
Gonna do SH 3 next.
Yeah I've had the FM 15 beta for a year now
DUR DM TSH
But been working until gone 10 at work every night this week. This weekend though... this weekend...
Smash Bros Wii U got a big reveal last night. Never really liked Brawl on the Wii much (though I played it single player) nor do I have loads of gaming mates to invite over, so maybe it's not for me. BUT:
- 8 players
- Create your own levels
- Biggest roster of characters ever
- Amibo cross title support
- New adventure game mode
- Characters in backgrounds of levels can be used as weapons
- Multi-plane fighting
- DLC likely
- 1080, 60 fps
Now I'm kinda intrigued...
you can invite me round ANY TIME*
*maybe not actually any time
which bizarrely is somehow still going on
^ this is absolutely brilliant, incidentally
thank you to whoever it was who said on a previous thread "if i had a PS3 I'd get Heavy Rain" (or words to that effect) - it was excellent.
however, i got a super bummer ending.
I didn't save Shaun. :-(
Ethan Hung himself. :-(
both of these really ruined it for me. i accept i'm terrible at quicktime events especially cos i'm crap at PS controller (pc master race checking in yo)
on the plus side:
Jayden - i forgot i even got him killed. but it looks like he's going to get revenge in his little VR world. i'm not sure. so maybe that's good?
Madison blew up the origami killer's appt (and probably his neighbours - so not so nice) and escaped on her bike. all cos she hid in a fridge?!
Lauren shot the origami killer in the face. all good. but that's a shame cos he was my favourite character.
i dunno if i'd play though it again so i might just watch all 22 (!) endings on the internet.
then played it again and saved them all to see what scenes i missed from killing people. One of the few games where the story actually does change quite a bit and its not just the final scene that is different.
signed up to PSN and got the Oddworld remake, that should tie me over a lil while... might even replay Dust because that game is awesome.
Talking of PS4, the 2.0 firmware update was released this morning.
plugged my HTC One in via USB with the hopes it'd see it had MP3s and let me play a podcast whilst I played Dust/Warframe/DC Universe Online... all quite mindless and grindy games and alas it doesn't recognize that it has any MP3s thus doesn't even give me the option to even try and load MP3s... this is still a functionality that needs to be improved and it seems so core any modern console.
ALSO I wanted to top up my PSN account with my mobile phone because I've switched jobs and effectively 2months without monies but the website is broken when it comes to logging in to top up your PSN wallet for any method other than Debit Card (and only on PS4 I might add, its broken on PC). I love the console but Sony still seem to be fucking up in so many ways when it comes the foundations that it kinda takes the shine off of my new toy! (which I love otherwise)
Also when it comes to Twitch I really hope they realize people will be way more interested in streaming with their app if they weren't limited to PS4 streams.
To be honest it's taken too long to get to this point i.e we can change the background colour now. That said, everything is much faster now with 2.0.
As I've always said, Sony don't know how to do an OS. XBOX shines there.
Check the store. Big offers on Steamworld Dig, Master reboot, Guacamelee STCE, Trine 2 (is this good?).
Also on Bayonetta 1 if you buy 2 and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is you buy the old SNES titles.
Found the controls a bit twitchy though. Worth £7 or so?
If you are looking to play multi-player co-op then it would be certainly be worth it. If you would only be playing single player then it depends on how much you enjoyed the demo. The Wii U version is the 'Directors Cut' so it is apparently the definitive version as it integrates the downloadable content into the main game more seamlessly.
Should arrive today. Got ok reviews I guess?! With me having no way to play dark souls and really wanting to I guess this might satisfy a craving?!
20% through Dust - what a game! Enjoying the slow release of it giving you more the further you progress.
Last tiny bit of Abe's Odyssee. It's one of those games where when youre stuck you make some really stupid mistakes and it's really infuriating. Anyway, I'm really stuck on it!
Still haven't played much of Alien Isolation. I will be playing it for a good few hours tonight in, um, isolation. Excited about it!
Peggle 2 is a beautiful triumph and beter than the original in every way. Also pretty hard.
Any ideas what November's free games will be?
Reviews look good, essentially they've said it's a 17/18 hour DS clone which is easier. I personally don't have a problem with that.
However, With AC:Unity, Farcry 4 and Dragon Age 3 this month I think I'll just wait till this one goes on sale.
I played a bit of it and it seemed a bit button bashy...
Blinding of Isaac is one of the PS4 (and maybe Vita?) free games this month which should be ace.
Bigger enemies, bosses you have to actually approach tactically, level design a bit more puzzley
it's the new Binding Of Isaac thats one of the games
Getting fed up of the overall shoddiness of Sony's network and OS. Far too many instances of not being able to play games properly or at all ('can't sign in to PSN to validate your license') and somehow they manage to have an OS that is both cluttered and lacking in functionality at the same time.
If I hadn't already spent money on downloading games I think I'd quite happily trade in a few of those 1080p's and extra fps's for a system that actually works and seems to be improving all the time.
Lords of the Fallen requires a 5gb day one patch because as it is it's really quite glitchy. I hope I can sign into psn tonight to download it, if not it'll be unplayable. Couldnt sign in last night
I find if I have PSN issues they are often sorted by a router reset and testing the network in the settings.
There was a ton people having problems though because the BF4 servers were dead.
The fact that we're paying for a service that had previously been free. You'd expect it at the very least to be as good as Xbox Live (which is no angel to be fair).
For me though the PS4 is a longer term investment as it's got slightly better hardware. The OS for Sony has always been shit, M$ have done a better job and always have.
hope it stays that way, fact of the matter is I've had the console for a weekend and have already run into about the same amount of problems I had the whole time I had a 360. Still think I chose the right platform though because sony's developers seem to hit my Gspot more often than Microsofts.
That is all.
1 month free Now TV Sky Movies pass and you get £10 free Playstation store credit for signing up for the free trial
Just don't forget to cancel (unless u want it obvs)
