The last owner of my flat said Scottish Power, but Scottish Power say it's not them.
I'm at a loss, guys.
or am I just asking for a huge bill if I try that?
unless you're only going to be there for a relatively short amount of time, then you might get away with it, but only if your landlord can't be arsed to track you down or whatever.
and by calling scottish power you have, whoever actually is your supplier can only bill you for the last 12 months regardless of how long you've lived there
this is covered by the "back billing" code which all the major suppliers have signed up to
call the national grid, but if like me your landlord hasn't bothered to register on it then you're in for a world of joy
I wouldn't like to bother them
just phone one up and say "I don't know who supplies me but you'd like to switch to you guys", they'll find out and tell you, then just hang up
it's powered by his "ask meths about the Beatles" thread. so you'd better keep asking or the power'll ru out
Scottish Power probably missed a trick there.
It's literally gasless.
that's the last time I'm making any calls to power companies when I move house
just call 999 and get the cops to sort it out. it's what we pay our taxes for.
Just pick whichever company you want to be with, give them your current meter reading, and off you go. The past is not of your concern, amigo.
I'll research suppliers, thanks everyone!
1) Find the MPAN on your meter (see here) http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/gas_electricity_meter_numbers
2) Look up the phone number for your region and call to find ask the distribution company who your supplier is. They should be able to look up based on the MPAN (or your address if it's registered properly)
They are the worst company I've ever had to deal with. Fucking useless.
They've started billing me - but haven't bothered to tell my previous suppliers so I'm paying twice as much for fuel. Also, it's supposed to be cheaper and yet they've started a more expensive direct debit and take hours to answer calls or over a week to respond to emails.
So bad. Fuck them.
