Which groups/teams/clubs/societies were you a member of at uni?
although I broke my ankle in the first training session and couldn't play until after xmas. I didn't bother going back.
and then tried to go back the following year, but most of them were real dicks, so I just bailed soon after.
in the first year but it was too much effort in training to break into a very cliquey squad.
got punched full on in the face when I wasn't paying attention once
Alternative music? Rock club? That was one of them. Never went to anything. I planned on joining the Rugby one but didn't. I probably wouldn't have been able to appreciate the "banter" anyway.
also I had a student radio show and was eventually Head of Specialist Music, that was the best.
but then almost the very next day Dunblane happened and we realised guns really weren't all that cool.
As far as I knew there wasn't one at the time :(
but I did a stint on student radio. Got bollocked for playing Debaser :$
Music and listings editor.
there's one at Edinburgh university (I DON'T GO THERE) and it's just the worst http://edinburghflipside.com/
It was rubbish
is that I'm not really someone who joins in things. It might be the reason I barely speak to anyone I met the first two times I was at university.
That said, I wrote a bit for the Newcastle University music section. They got me free tickets to gigs.
Photography club. It wasn't very good. They had a darkroom, but no-one else ever wanted to use it, so I basically had the keys to myself for 2 years.
Also my friend accidentally ended up as president of the Catholic Society in our 3rd year. He wasn't very religious, but joined up in first year and continued occasionally making an appearance in 2nd year because it would make his irish nan really happy, who knew the priest. By the 3rd year he was automatically president because he was the only member left. At the fresher's fair that year he tried his best to have a really crappy stall and not talk to many people in the hope that no-one would join, and he wouldn't have to actually do anything all year.
Indie music for dweebs. Ended up being a great bunch who just put on gigs, drank and hung out. We saw the metal and rocksoc people as the lowest of the low.
(the sport, I'm not calling cricket on this thread)
I've no idea what I'm doing when I actually have to do a judo with someone
went to the human rights society introductory quiz but got too drunk and started giving joke answers while everyone else was taking it really seriously, never went back after that.
uni i'm at now has an actually decent film club which i'm a member of
as there were no members/people to run it. He/we used the money to put on 'events' in our front room that was basically beers and salted snacks for us. We got shut down but the man when some narc complained
