  • When someone's rambling or filibustering

prepare a noise which you can make which will cut through and make everyone listen. A bit like a dolphin sound.

  • just be really assertive and confident. Tell them the sort of things you won't accept to begin with and give an indication about the sort of debate you expect them to have. Depending on the the subject matter obviously but you might want to give specific examples. Make sure you're neutral but don't be afraid to intervene if someone is dominating and talking too much. If there is confusion or the conversation reaches and impasse don't be afraid to intervene.

The best persona to adopt is happy/confident/ relaxed/ seen it all before.

    • or you might be in more of a facilitator role

where you can give your own opinion more and encourage them to elaborate on things they've said

nah it's a straight modding do, ensuring time is kept and no one dominates etc.

  • be firm but fair

keep to timings pretty rigidly, but allow speakers to finish their sentences (within reason)
    make sure to stay impartial
the less you need to say the better - just say what you need to say, when you need to say it, and do it confidently.
