Today is my Thursday :(
But tell me about your weekends anyway, everyone? Got much planned?
Can we have a subthread of "great headlines of our time"? This is pretty good: http://gadling.com/2013/09/10/australian-pig-steals-beer/
Can we have a subthread of "great doubleposts of our time"? This is pretty good: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/social/4428278#r7433527
Misty, dewy and sunny and has anyone noticed how many spider webs there are today?! Loads!
I had a pornstar martini last night and it was delicious, I felt a bit lightheaded after having only 1, it's my new favourite cocktail
This isn't even a metaphor
Looking forward to the quiz later, managed to avoid the bottom 10 last week which is a personal best I think.
This weekend is going to be loads and loads of decorating followed by (hopefully) rewarding myself by seeing Daniel Kitson and Stewart Lee at my sort-of local comedy club. Might die electrocuting myself whilst installing new lights in my living room.
as well as basically every spare moment that I have. Buy a cheap property and renovate it, they said! It'll add value and make it more personal, they said!
You'll look back in a few months' time, after all that hard work and effort ... and think: "fuck, I did a terrible job on that first room"
It's going to be like the Forth Bridge, by the time we've finished the last room...
We moved in to our place in August last year and have done it top to bottom inc floors in a year. Hard work but I absolutely love the place now. Just got to get the bathroom sorted now...
though I keep deluding myself that we'll be all done in a few months time.
I remember those days. Done by Christmas we said :D We *did* get engaged in Dec and married in the following July though, so I suppose we had an excuse!
Seriously though, take your time and make sure you get some time to unwind a bit. The whole thing can be enjoyable (kinda) and you'll have your whole lives to enjoy it once it's done. Good luck!!
(there is at least ONE closer pub, maybe two)
just my local comedy club. Well, unless you count Richard Blackwood's nights at the Catford Broadway.
As the Turkish Doberman bite I got started throbbing and pretty sure I was about to faint :(
Been in there overnight but really want to get out of here as soon as possible as people keep mentioning 'Animal meet-and-greet Friday' which if i am not wrong is some sort of carousel of animal touching and this might give me PTSD. Really worried and Shocked
i'm sure you'll be tip top in no time. get better soon
There is talk of a Kestrel doing the rounds in the wards today, really do not think birds of prey are appropriate for a hospital
from the attack and mind is a bit sore. They say that they have found absolutely nothing wrong with me and they could really do with the bed back ( I have asked for a second opinion over as the wound doesnt lie and why else would have I fainted?!?)
So many times in my life I could right more than a Novella mate.
I got a bit pissed and it was probably the best gig I've been to all year, up there with Prince at the Academy. Every song a banger and rolling off the audiences lips from the first chord. So, so, so good. Finished with Big Bird which is like Radiohead finishing with 'the creeper' or something.
Morning! I was asked to work a Saturday in December yesterday. Couldn't say no really :(
TONIGHT: curry and pubs
TOMORROW: mooching and dancing
SUNDAY: bike ride and comedy (that thing chuff mentions upthread!)
Quite looking forward to turning up to a really hip comedy night looking like this:
It's not the Saturday I mind so much (I'll be standing at a market stall talking to members of the public all day, so it goes pretty quicky) - it's the one-day weekend that I have as a result. I get a day off in lieu but probs won't take that til the last week of the month :/
Did you get my email? Q2 on the answers is missing people.
I'm on it
Haircut the night
Wedding the morrow, followed by meeting some friends that are up from london, it's gonna be a long messy day.
Sunday, bunch of folk meeting up for lunch and drinks, this could be dependent on the night before.
Not sure what I'll do tonight, prob just stay in.
Tomorrow JoFo Dalston.
Sunday general pottering and film pub quiz in evening.
my friend runs it.
today's my friday!
agree with casseroles, love this weather
got a stupendous amount of work to do today, will be very surprised if i'm not here until late in the evening
not doing much this weekend, band practice and booking a little holiday
TONIGHT: Preparing brewing equipment, having a few beers, playing some Dark Souls 2
TOMORROW: Brew day, picking up some PC parts, attempting to put together said PC parts, off for birthday meal with the TV's old man
SUNDAY: Finish putting together PC and then either play on PC or sit weeping surrounded by smashed PC parts
Tonight: Islet and Vessel at Tate Britain
Tomorrow: Going to Watford vs Brighton. Want to get to more London/around London grounds this year. Not sure about evening yet.
Sunday: no idea m8
at the software developer awards dinner. I was hosting a table of techie clients and the one sitting next to me successfully recruited me into scientology. I just thought he was talking about science at first. Obviously i can't say much about it, but past life regression therapy (#audit) starts next week.
Cannot be arsed with today, but at least I get to travel about a bit later (in spaceship).
i successfully managed to convince them that i think it's a pretty good religion
It's a thetanic belief system. Srsly.
where was your awards dinner?
2 floors down, you could only get a phone singal in the loo, nightmare. In a dungeon with 700 softare enmgineers. I think I was one of about 4 women, although it was hard to tell. Had to speak Java for five hours, and nobody was up for a singalong on the coach home, hard fucking work.
Ohg and two of my junior lawyers on my table got smashed in the interval before pudding and nattered and giggled right through the really solemn awards and charity video part of the evening (you know what I mean, you probably did the video for it.) I am so cross with them (we were on a table next to some VIPs who were glaring and shushing) and I am now trying to decide on a suitable punishment for them.
you need to keep shtum for the charity video.
i've had some complete twats at tables over the years, incl one chap who i pretty much had to drag out of his seat, march him outside and tell him why it was bang out of order to heckle a lovely woman on stage who was talking about the chosen charity of the night.
has spoken to their secretary and got hold of the recipts that they were intending to expense from last night's event. they are excessive and their behaviour was awful as a result, so I have said that I will not block their expense so liong as they match them with a donatoni to the event's charity beneficiary. They hate me so much and I like it.
Thank goodness. Insanely busy week at work but a productive one too, also am basking in my completion of mass effect 3 last night ", due to aforementioned busy stuff, tonight'll just be me and mrs stack watching a crap rom-com and drinking some wine. Looking forward to it.
Not much planned really no. Going to my sister-in-law's birthday drinks later somewhere in Shoreditch, probably some pub or bar I guess, who knows? Before that I think I need to meet the other half and help her find a present for said sister. I have no idea what you get a 29 year old female these days. It's not something I've had to do in the past to be honest, we'll probably end up getting vouchers of some kind but not rubbish vouchers, maybe theatre vouchers... Tomorrow I don't have much on, will probably go for a bike ride around the leafy hilly boulevards of South London and then maybe see David Fincher's latest, Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck and Neil Patrick Harris. I'm supposed to be volunteering at the Vauxhall Foodbank at some point but I've failed to get my arse into gear and fill in the references form, need to do that before the whole cost of living crisis is solved. Quite fancy a gig in the evening, JoFo at Birthdays? Dunno. Anything good on? Sunday I am going home to Surrey for my brother's birthday meal. I bought him a Bosch cordless drill and some socks from Amazon. Hope he likes them. After or before the meal depending on what time my mum serves it, I hope to take the dog to Frensham Ponds. We went there a couple of weeks ago and he loved it. There's a National Trust cafe there on the lake which looked quite nice. Quite like the sound of this film pub quiz NickDS was banging on about up there ^ Maybe I'll get back in time to go to it and win. I have pub quiz fever at the moment.
Where shall I explore? Feels like I know a lot of SE London like the back of my hand now.
That's a nice cycle with an excellent payoff.
(no I haven't.)
Picnic in the park. Then one or more of the many nice SW pubs on the way back. J's a g. Great day out.
is practically how I could get to work. But that's about 16 miles. Is that too far to commute (twice) every day?
I'm going on my own but I think other DiSers might be there too?
See above for film quiz location. I'll see if I can find a link with more details if you're interested.
More details would be greatly appreciated ta.
So spending the weekend going out to eat, having wine and buying new dresses. YES!
Boss reckons we can leave at 12 today. WTF. Gonna go buy some new jeans to celebrate.
Handing the notice in on my room later. Its far too lonely flat for me to live in. Its making me sad. Does anyone have a room going?
going for drinks in Shoreditch #LME
heading back to MK to see my folks also attending a fancy dress party dressed like a cat.
Massively fed up.
Might have the house to myself this evening. Torn between doing some exercise and cooking a healthy dinner, or going full pizza/beer/couch slob mode.
The outcome will largely be decided by how stressful work is today, and given that I've got two bosses and one client being insufferable pricks already, the smart money's on the pizza. #thisiswhyimfat
including the company founder and basically every single important person in the business.
Slightly bricking it.
Finishing work today at 3ish. Surprise birthday party for a very good friend at 8pm tonight. Great stuff.
fuck, that's quite a crowd. i'm sure you'll be just fine, the thought is always much worse than the actual doing
even though I've done pretty big crowds before, that's always been in a very fun, quite laid back context generally.
about how old/stupid/fat the company founder is. They'll love that.
I opened with a gag about Ed Miliband.
Don't open with a gag about Ed Miliband.
I'd be a better public speaker!
CURRY. I could really go a curry tonight.
i've had curry every friday for the last 6 weeks? always vegetable though so that's my justification.
BUT AST NIGHT I GOT TO SEE JIMMY SOMERVILLE SING SMALLTOWN BOY.
I can't tell you how happy I am about this.
I'm so tired. Someone hold me.
I want a pillow. And some lamb.
fun was had by all
he was purring the whole time
only got 1 flea and 5 eggs.
I'm hosting/presenting a film seminar in Oslo this weekend. I haven't prepared yet but will do so later on at some point. Also probably drink a lot I guess.
that's rather cool
this seminar was planned ages before I knew I was moving, so just going back for the weekend as I said yes to doing this months ago
Drowning in work at the minute.
Chucked the bad date last night after getting a lame excuse/cancel. Seriously, why do people make plans with you and then cancel the very next day. If you feel you'll be too busy DON'T make plans. And to top it all off he called me 'chick' that sealed the deal. I pressed DELETE immediatly. Chick?
I have no idea, but seriously this was his last chance and he blew it.
i did see him at my golf club a few weeks back
not to excuse his behaviour but I've actually had to reschedule a date on the day before (mostly because we hadn't finalized details and it turned out I wasn't available at the time she suggested).
Never called a woman a chick before though.
This time the cancellation was 15min before Iw as to meet him.
Look, I'm not one of those hardnosed cows who doesn't sympathise with being busy, the issue wasn't the cancelling as such, it was the way he behaved when doing so. And then when I say it's okay and I understand to be met with "Thanks chick". Um...what?
what a fud!
Never contact him again 'penni. he's a twat and he's playing you, and you're playing into his hands by going along with it.
15 minutes before is ridiculously late to cancel unless you or a family member have been put in hospital or something. Seems you'd need a huge amount of self-importance to do that otherwise.
he sounds like a joker.
hook up next week maybs?
get here already
and once sung about a cock
I'm about to start eating a veggie burger which looks delicious and get this, they're actually clever enough to put the fucking gherkins on the side! Yay! I hate gherkins but always forget to say I don't want them (because I don't understand what place they have on a burger in the first place). More places should do this!
End gherkin rant
i live for gherkins
PM me your address and I'll send you all my leftover gherkins through the post, yeah?
is tomorrow, so now I'm more very, very nervous. What a duh-doy person I am. Might watch a film toniiiiiiiiight.
as I am going to switch the laptop off naaaooow.
it was filled with shit or mud or something. think I'm still in shock
Are you alright shroobee
just incapable of smiling when i'm told to for some reason
I accidentally bought some quite expensive wine which I am now drinking
