I'm sure that's a weight off of everyone's minds.
but only if you own it and only for your own use. it's still illegal to make copies for friends /family, or to copy something you don't own (or have got your hands on illegally in the first place.)
I would totally donwload illegaly if only I could work out how. It's a bit hard when all you've got is a work PC (FIREWALLED) and an ipad (FUCKING USELESS).
there's been certain exceptions like allowing the copying of a portion (up to 10%) of a written text so long as it's for academic use, but all that ripping of CDs, or making backups of games the whole country's been doing? Illegal until yesterday.
There was no exception for it in the law. It's copying a work without the author's permission, so without an exception it's an infringing act.
And I thought the recent changes to copyright law only related to parody?
Oh, great. is there anywhere I can read a summary?
Give me a minute. i can link you to a publication, and I think my firm issued a practice note last night too.
Good work, marketing team.
and on loinkedin. NOTHING. I was out with the main IP guy at an Expo yesterday and he was a bit drunk, so that is probably why.
Can finally get rid of this discman and start putting stuff on my ipod.
from the UKIPO
Thanks. Interesting. So I'm allowed to rip my music to my computer but if my girlfriend uses my computer she's only allowed to listen to music that she personally has also purchased. Nice and enforceable law there.
At least not against individual consumers.
Yeah, I was always under the impression that this exception always existed anyway so have been unknowing breaking the law for a long time.
no one ever told me ripping your own CDs onto your own PC is illegal
Anyway, these days I use Spotify Premium where I can download playlists, so it's a bit late for that now.
So does this include taping things like live streams on your PC?
