When did you guys started saying this? I don't like it.
a shit phrase
and it sounds like someone's having relations with their idiot box
once when i came back there were loads of new people, all saying the same new things and i didn't know who any of them were. i imagine you're going through the same thing. i'll keep you in my prayers <3
when people got tired of that one.
about having partners. Like we're not allowed to admit it for fear of sounding superior.
pretty much the first response was "Thinly veiled I have a (wife/husband/finance/girlfriend/boyfriend) post". Dunno who first prempted it by posting about their thinly veiled instead.
That's top quality and you know it.
i ain't no shag man
I don't even know if I like it or not.
you thick cunt
I think I scoffed at it was first suggested it but actually it's the best thing ever and I would like to thank DarwinDude, Tillance and GB for bringing it about.
I always used to refer to 'my girlfriend' by her name, because, you know she is her own person, that's what I call her whenever I talk to or about her and is what she would prefer to be called. Plus it's really obvious who she is when I talk about her, but then people were weird and I got told off for it.
We don't use our own names so why should she? I would go with "NutBushCityLimits23" if I was you.
i still think it's weird, in the same way that if i was talking about my ma or brother or sister on here i'd do the normal thing and refer to them as "my ma", "my brother" etc
it doesn't make them less of a person and is obvious to anyone reading it who i'm describing
It's just something that happened because that would be how I refer to her in normal life too. Not something I thought to much about, and I'm not like the numerous people on here who have intense life/DiS clash anxiety.
about people 'talking about their partners all the time'.
So it's probably because of that. On the other hand saying 'fiancee' makes me sound even more hateable than normal.
Just in a weirder way! I'm fine with people talking about their girl/boyfriends though. Unless I'm feeling really bitter that day or something.
PS you should just say girlfriend
UNLESS the person I'm talking to is married then I feel okay saying fiancee
but i think people started saying that as a tongue-in-cheek mock concession to those people?
Because it's not an issue in the fiiiiirst plaaaace
which is the completely normal thing to do in every other real life context
but saying 'girlfriend' specifically makes it look like you're boasting by saying girlfriend and not her name
even though that's not why you don't want to use the name
It's the context that can do that
people were calling others out for saying girlfriend in ANY context
when they're standing next to the person
(hope i've got my classics references right)
I think I'm going to redo the "people who refer to their ex as "the ex" are moral monsters" thread soon. maybe next week sometime idk
personally I disagree
Just say "terrible person I knew". Doesn't roll off the tongue though.
So either that or "someone I used to go out with" or something
if they have multiple exs it's a grammatical crime, if not then *meh*
instead of my
probably don't realise they sound like people you overhear in the pub going 'no more for me, jimmy, i better get back to the wife'
Not really but it'd be good if it was.
I just disagree with it a lot.
like 'DH' and stuff.
the secret service does not comment on procedure
I rallied against it wr, but to no avail. It sounds horrific and twee, but this is drownedinsound.com!!!1111
we know your game
were some nu gaze band?
fucking hell that was a low point in recent human history
How DARE you make me aware of that thread.
like it implies that people would actually bother boasting about having a partner, which in turn implies that a partner is an object/status symbol etc.
obviously I know it's not seriously used like that on here. or at least i hope not.
