Are there any recipes with crisps as an ingredient?

jontosh2001 [Edit] [Delete] 40 replies 16:25, 21 September '14

Was wondering about the possibility of adding crisps to the mash on a shepherds pie. Mainly because I was eating some crisps while making a shepherds pie.

I've seen some weird pizzas with crumbled crisps on top and guess that they could be used as a topping or coating - but as a key ingredient/flavour??

  • crisp soup is a childhood favourite of mine

dice some carrots and onions, fry them until soft and then add some crushed garlic, stir in some chopped up hotdogs and a packet of crisps (flavour of your choice!), add water and simmer for 20 minutes.

  • I've done this before

Also with fish pie. Works alright.

Tortilla chips can work as an alternative to mashed potato in most similar dishes.

it's meant to be like a quick spanish omelette. it's not very nice.

it's in his book the family meal, which is otherwise indispensible.

  • Well, tortilla chips are used a fair bit in Mexican dishes

so I guess there's a precedent of sorts. Can't see crisps working that well though.

  • frito pie <3

at the last primavera some bunch of chancers ran a stall doing this with normal crisps. it was grim. didn't help that the chilli was basically dog food.

  • Yeah I make a regular dish with a crisp topping.

    Chicken and Broccoli Bake

General jist is fry off some onions, then add some diced chicken and brown off. Then lob some creme fraiche, some mayonnaise (can't remember the quantities) and some good curry powder and stir it all in to make a sumptuous sauce. Put some broccoli florets in, then transfer to an oven dish and crumble two bags of coarsely crushed ready salted crisps over the top. Bake at about 170 for 20 minutes till everything's heated through and the crisps are nice and brown.

    It's fucking delicious.
