Investing in cycling infrastructure is 'discriminatory' and only benefits young white men.
So says a Tory councillor in Birmingham: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/23m-birmingham-cycle-scheme-attacked-by-tory-councillor-for-not-catering-to-the-elderly-9727179.html
And here's some analysis: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/recreational-cycling/11103106/British-cycling-must-deal-with-its-white-male-image.html
"According to British Cycling, 78pc of its 98,000 membership is white, 18pc is “undisclosed” and only 3pc is known to be either black or Asian...although these ratios correspond with the national census, which in 2011 showed that 86pc of the population were of white British origin"
Is it true? Does it matter?
Hmm, interesting...
