the hour record
big jens to go for it today at 6pm
i think he'll do it, although he isnt a track rider & won't be used to the constant acceleration coming out of the bends, but he can take the beasting for an hour easy
also nice to see dave millar as team captain for team gb in the world's
Eurosport are really getting behind this with their coverage
The fact that he could do it says more about the record than his ability sadly, but I hope he does it.
cheers for the reminder: forgot about this.
Have fond memories of the Obree/Boardman rivalry back in the day.
Bit of an odd thing, the hour record
They have 3 different records, the UCI hour record, best human effort and the unified record. Wikipedia says that the unified record was bought in to allow the other two records to sit together, but they set the record at Ondřej Sosenka's record pace of 49.7kph even though it is not the furthest distance. Since Sosenka's attempt (and subsequent doping violations, casting his record with doubt), athlete's are required to be on the passport program.
Looking forward to watching it.
Great way for Jensie to finally bow out.
Also a pretty good way of getting loads of interest and hopefully get loads more people attempting it.
I know the Manchester velodrome was one of the three touted for Cancellara. Anyone doing it there would be amazing, it'd probably sell out immediately but they could have a big screen outside quite easily.
I've just booked my first ever session in a velodrome at Lea Valley (the Olympic one).
This is the first step towards beating whatever time Jens sets tonight.
Would be great to see this as a recognised thing again
and have people consistently trying to beat it. Shame I won't be able to watch this but hope he smashes it!

:)
That half hour went quick
Compelling stuff
What sort of gear ratio is he going to be turning here?
55x14
Ta
That sounds quite painful. I might be able to keep that cadence up for a minute or so at that ratio! Or perhaps I'm kidding myself.
It takes me 47 mins to cycle 16(ish)km to work.
He basically cycled 4 times as fast as me.
