A horrible man on many levels, one who had real blood on his hands. But it is worth recalling his double-act with Martin McGuinness as a cause for hope that even the most violently bigoted can, to some extent, change their ways.
I certainly won't be mourning the man, but out of his hate came a symbol of a way forward. Important to remember.
Or you could say the time was right for peace when it suited him. He was careerist as any other politician.
And one I might agree with. But still a major move to make, even if the motivation might be far from pure.

the only thing worth recalling about the man is that he is responsible (along with SF/IRA leaders) for the fucked up state of NI today.
what a bad man he was etc. but I'll leave it for my friends in Northern Ireland to decide whether it's best (for peace and reconciliation and all that) to be saying stuff like "glad he's dead".
