That'll keep the Scots on board, right?

  • citation?

but if true, congratulations Wills and Kate :)

    colon_closed_bracket | 8 Sep '14, 10:31 | X
    • why?

do you think they would reciprocate?

what I really mean is - that's a strange sentiment for you to offer.....why?

      creakyknees @colon_closed_bracket | 8 Sep '14, 10:35 | X
      • I mean, If you realise that a cow in the field is pregnant, do you offer it

        congratulations? or congratulate the farmer?

        creakyknees @creakyknees | 8 Sep '14, 10:36 | X
        • If you see a dead blade of grass

do you fall to the floor and weep with grief?

No, so stop whinging about your murdered infant daughter, you fool.

          Pegfeet @creakyknees | 8 Sep '14, 10:39 | X
          • Im not sure if you would describe a blade of grass as being 'dead'

grass, as a plant, has an ability to tolerate blades of itself being torn/sheared off, which is one aspect of its remarkable success, it can tolerate or even thrive on being grazed by large herbivores.

      • Not everyone says nice things in the hope of reciprocation

If I saw them I'd say congratulations. Having a baby is a nice thing and they seem like nice people.

        • to tell the awful truth

If I actually met them irl in a natural situation, then I almost certainly say congratulations, and mean it, possibly followed by a, "as long as you are happy about it?"....(just as you would with anyone who is pleasant to you)

BUT im not going to meet them irl in a natural situation, and that is why I'm getting all hufty about this?.....why congratulate someone that are sooooooooooooooo removed from yourself?

          creakyknees @jontosh2001 | 8 Sep '14, 10:54 | X
          • Recognition that they're human I guess

I think it's a good thing to extend positive sentiments to everyone. Whether you have any connection to them or not.

            Pegfeet @creakyknees | 8 Sep '14, 11:04 | X
            jontosh2001 this'd this
            • except that,

although they are obviously human irl, they are then 'dehumanised' by their position and pov in relation to us, and then the pr machine comes along and slaps a 'media' human face on top of them again.........so yeah they are human underneath, but then there are layers put on top by the time that we get to hear that 'Kate is pregnant'

sorry, just makes me retch a bit, they might be great human beings irl (but how would we know?)

              creakyknees @Pegfeet | 8 Sep '14, 11:08 | X
              • Doesn't matter if they're great

I just think having positive thoughts and feelings towards people is a good thing for your own contenment.

              • William didn't choose to be born into the royal family

And has made a fair go at being a normal guy with a semi-normal job.

With Kate, I don't think you can overestimate how hard it must have been for her in that position (and still is now). She seems genuinely 'down to earth' even though she lives in a world now of formal protocols and public engagements.

I'm not a royalist, and I get fed up with the constant media bombardment with all this stuff, but behind all that it's still a nice thing to happen to a reasonably nice couple.

                jontosh2001 @creakyknees | 8 Sep '14, 11:15 | X
                • as I said, they seem OK and IRL I would wish them well

                  BUT they're not IRL.

                  creakyknees @jontosh2001 | 8 Sep '14, 11:25 | X
                  • (although there is a real Kate and William)

the one we are presented with is a media construct (some of which may be them, but we cannot tell as it is a media construct that we are presented with, the media construct may have utilised a certain amount of 'the real them' but we cannot tell how much, or which)

                    so

                    creakyknees @creakyknees | 8 Sep '14, 11:27 | X
      • just a natural reaction to the news of a pregnancy

  • So that's what:

    Royal Wedding
    Diamond Jubilee
    Olympics
Birth of heir to the throne
Second child just announced, to be born a month or two before a general election.

Imagine having all that in your term of government and still being behind in the polls...

  • Ideally the future monarch should have several consorts

An Irish wife, A Scottish wife, A Welsh wife and an English wife, to signify that all the kingdoms are equally important (like Ackbar the great of india (hindu muslim and Christian wives.....cos that is what he rules over......the Jains and budhists were somehow ignored (because they are less likely to kick up a fuss) , and the thugee were well pissed off)

  • Can society reach a compromise?

We can keep the Royal family 4 TH TOURISMS. But we treat them with no reverence whatsoever, and - instead of being tax-funded - they make their money through being (and this is mandatory) the biggest sell-outs of all time.

Prince Philip's series of zumba videos, the Queen doing adverts for Cillit Bang, and animated series where the Royal family fight crime and each ride on their own colour-coordinated leopards, etc.
