About to drill into a wall, how do i know there's no wiring or pipes or shit behind it that's gonna explode?
just hold it up to the wall and it goes BEEEEP if there's anything dangerous behind it
not gonna get one
just gonna go for it
thanks for your help!
How old is your property? I'm assuming it's in France, so it might be different than the UK, but if your wiring and plumbing has been done within the past 20 years or so, you shouldn't have any horizontal runs in the walls, as everything should be a vertical drop or rise to the socket/switch or appliance. As a rule of thumb this means that if you don't drill in line with a socket or a tap, you'll be alright.
HOWEVER, you've not said whether the wall is masonry or studwork. Depending on what you want to use the drilled hole for, you may need to make sure that your hole is centred on a stud. Again, one of the detectors will be able to find this.
1) dunno, appartment block from the 70s, maybe earlier
2) dunno, has the hollow sound when you knock on it
3) directly above bath tap to fit shower head holder, water pipes don't go directly down to there do they? i can offset it i suppose
Um. They could, if your water is supplied from above the ceiling rather than under the floor. It's not unusual for it to be dropped from the ceiling so that it avoids the drainage from the bath under the floor.
Other than that, you've just got to take a roll of the dice!
this is exciting
try and make a guess as to where your water and/or gas pipes go. There shouldn't be many of them in your house and it ought to be possible to hazard a guess which walls they might be in.
asking for help is cheating.
Fucking love DIY though. Been doing loads recently. Going to be building a fucking SHED soon. Can't wait.
Bit ostentatious, like.
between the lawnmower and garden tools once in a while. She's into it.
