don't be one of those people warny.
As was Casino Royale
Can't remember the opening to Skyfall ergo can't be great
But if we're talking Bond, it has to be Goldeneye and the damn bungee jump.
literally the first thing that happens in Goldeneye? And then there's the ropey acting (although I've got a soft spot for "For England, James."
On the topic of Bond, the opening to Quantam of Solace is probably the best bit of the film. Not saying much mind.
OH GOD it's so good I might just have to watch the opening tonight.
'Take the shot. Take the bloody shot!'
Meh, very standard action-y.
The tension, the pay-off with the language switch, Christoph Waltz's performance (and pipe)... all brilliant.
That cinema assassination/explosion alone makes it Tarantino's best film.
too smug and self aware
right up until Charles Bronson appears and you realise he's definitely not Clint Eastwood :(
Dont think Eastwood suits the character of Harmonica anyway.
Which is a shame, cos the rest of it is amazing.
Hes in Magnificent Seven, Great Escape and the Dirty Dozen.
So did well for so limited ability.
and one of the best things welles ever did
'the thing' is pretty good
best ever though? idk. I can't seem to think of any films.
and none of them have "amazing" openings.
The Good The Bad and the Ugly
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
It's stuck because of the CD soundtrack but, I don't know, it's not on a par with the Inglourious Basterds one.
but I don't think it's up there.
can't even remember what the start of Predator is?
(the original one, obviously).
I mean, that whole opening is fucking amazing.
Also, Superman the Movie. There's just something really great about that opening and the transition to widescreen, along with Williams' music. When you finally get the actual title bit it's really cool.
The bank robbing scene is excellent.
the opening scene in one of the Batman films? If so, that was good
OH! what about 'up' ?
Is it when it's present day or just the bit where you break down weeping and have to pause it in order to pull yourself together?
sort of feels like cheap exploitation, but fuck me
or Star Wars
First line sets the tone for the whole film.
Raging Bull. Shame the film just goes downhill from there.
Mean Streets has a great opening with Be My Baby by The Ronettes playing in the opening credits.
I've gotta get back into films.
think it must be
is this a joke??
Do you even LIKE cinema?
Touch Of Evil
The Player (an homage to the above)
Manhattan has such a fantastic opening that the rest of the movie feels a bit disappointing in comparison.
When the Gershwin music pipes up... lovely.
Loads of animals go to see a lion cub get dangled over a cliff by a baboon, soundtracked by an Elton John song, it's fantastic.
but the start of Darjeeling Ltd with Bill Murray is good.
Blood dribbles down.
Yeah you know what it is!
but in terms of really setting the tone of the films,
City Of God: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd68fZq_af4
and even Austin Powers: Goldmember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFhrc32kF6E
are pretty good too.
come on people!
is pretty damn good too
Donnie Darko was really cool at the time with the killing moon playing through it.
top buscemi work in that.
OR PERHAPS he is wondering why you would threaten to shoot a man, before throwing him out of a plane?
If i take off will you die?
It would be...extremely painful
You're a big guy
Practically singing "for yoooou"
I got Madonna's big dick coming out of my left ear, and Toby the Chu I don't know what the fuck else coming out of my right
You shoot me in a dream you better wake up and apologise
Let's go to work
You wanna take me to a kung fu movie?
No. I wanna take you to THREE kung fu movies
the best film about venereal disease...ever!
its opening scene is masterful, definitely my favourite of the one-shot variety
just so utterly thrilling. makes me want to be a young academic running through the paris sunshine forever. feels like the start of a cosmic & frivolous game that passeth all profundity
I was going to say that one
not as good as 'the thing' though
(loui's favourite film decade)
i remember that quite clearly. the apotheosis of cinema
Reservoir Dogs - Cool as fuck
There's more, i'll get back to you
Like when Bobby Womack comes streaming through in Jackie Brown, or the doom like menace fuzz of Eraserhead immediately putting you on edge.
Sometimes though it's all about the characters like in Millers Crossing.
For me I'll take a mix of the two - The Terminator! The sort of dark 80s techno soundtrack, the immediate character, it's just so fucking awesome.
'Any of you fucking pricks move, and I'll execute every motherfucking last one of you!' into Dick Dale's fabulous guitar
The opening was amazing.
the best of Quentin Tarantino
Amazing 20 minutes or so.
missed a cracking username/subject interface opportunity though
is actually some doddery cunt walking around before intimately remembering a load of stuff that didn't happen to him
If you're a fan of both Leftfield and Edinburgh roads.
SAWYER AS A SECRET AGENT WEARING A FLAT CAP IN BUDAPEST. LEA SEYDOUX.
was genuinely quite gutted (spoilers) when he got shot so early on
Also, Raising Arizona ("TURNTOTHERAAAHT!").
walking down a Brooklyn street, stops to check reflection and shoes in the window of a shop. carries on walking. winks at some chicks.
Carrying a tin of paint! Cool as fuck
