How much would someone have to give you to vote UKIP in the 2015 GE?

in_limbo [Edit] [Delete] 24 replies 19:33, 19 July '14

How about to vote UKIP and then not to be able to lie about who you voted for?

Invoking SSP on this thread BTW

  • Not THAT much, I live in a Labour stronghold

Like, triple figures? How much are you offering?
I think I would do it for £500

    RFWare | 19 Jul '14, 19:36 | X
    • As long as I could say I did it for £500 and that I don't like them and that.

      RFWare @RFWare | 19 Jul '14, 19:37 | X
    • Is that if you had to admit to it as well?

      in_limbo @RFWare | 19 Jul '14, 19:37 | X
      • Nah, you can't tell people you did it for money

You don't necessarily have to justify it but you've got to look people in the eye when they ask and say you voted for 'em

        in_limbo @in_limbo | 19 Jul '14, 19:38 | X
        • Still yes tbh

          RFWare @in_limbo | 19 Jul '14, 19:40 | X
      • Yeah as long as I can show people a receipt

Democracy's a sham anyway, I might not vote at all as it is.

  • no amount of money

  • £200

I'd also take a leftwing eurosceptic line on it when defending my choice, coupled with something about accelerationism: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/17/leftwing-eurosceptics-eu-british-left

    • (I am a leftwing eurosceptic anyway, but in the Green camp obvs)

  • Pretty torn on the EU.

I think a single currency and the free movement of people is actually a good thing within the EU block.

But they hopelessly fucked up on the economics when letting in the old Eastern Bloc countries in a way they didn't with Spain. Probably there was a lot more to it and if they'd kept those countries in a sort of economic isolation then there were worries about fascist governments taking over.

Anyway, the problem with UKIP is they aren't a remotely constructive answer to the EU question. They like to focus on utterly stupid populist notions about Stalinism from the European parliament and the like. So no amount of money would make me vote for them.

    • ^this

There are problems, without question. But UKIP is a joke party - voting them in would generate far worse foreign policy problems, not least because it sends a message that we're a joke country.

      No amount of money, then

      • They've always been against intervention in foreign wars though

I think that would go some way to mitigate the cut in foreign aid they propose.

I don't really get the 'oh no, people will think we're dicks' argument if we pull out of the EU. I don't automatically think Icelanders or Norwegians are dicks, and they didn't even bother giving it a go.

        in_limbo @xylopwn | 21 Jul '14, 12:34 | X
        • Nono it's not that people will think we're dicks if we leave the EU

It's that people will think we're dicks if UKIP makes any significant gains. Fortunately, it hasn't happened yet.
