Don't just dive in to this one. It's lovely, but will leave you a bit of a wreck.
Lived my day as perfectly normal. Luckily, dogs enjoy each moment about 100 times more than people do so he would have had a good day REGARDLESS.
The writer with their 'Im gonna miss you' (as if the dog was thinking this) He didn't know he was gonna miss anything. By inferring that he knew they removed some of their natural sadness at putting him down. (which I agree with as a means to end suffering in very sick animals).
There's a bit where it says someone 'saw' ie saw the ghost of the dog as he passed to give you an idea of how level-headed they are.
Before I posted the link, I did have a think about the kind of replies it might generate. I imagined that I'd thought of most of them, even considering how detatched from reality some people on DiS can be sometimes, but I've got to admit that I could have spent a whole year trying to imagine possible reactions and I'd have never come anywhere close to this one.
I clarified in the next post 'murdered' isn't the right word-but was more a response to the cloying words of the writer in the link. Really agree with Thingsthatfly's summation as well. I have a dog who I care about very much, and my family always have pets.
seems a bit weird to put words in the dogs mouth and pretend he knew what was happening, rather than focus on the real sadness of the event they've focused on an unconnected fiction, seems a bit off.
Not on board with this either.
For reasons already stated, plus, it's basically a buzzfeed post. Or, to be more charitable, it's a reworking of the sort of thing http://mymilktoof.blogspot.co.uk/ churns out (which I like). Which is somewhat understandable considering this is a professional photographer (not that that massively matters, but, y'know).
I fucking love dogs. The most I've ever cried is when we decided our first guinea pig had run his course.
Sure, it's a nice tale, but there are many reasons why not being a wreck after checking it out is hardly surprising (and definitely doesn't make you detatched [sic] from reality).
By the pain of losing five dogs over the years, in each case to euthanasia if we're being technical about it. It's the hardest and kindest thing you can do for your beloved companion and you wonder why people bother having pets when there will be inevitable heartbreak. the fact that people often go on to get another pet shows that it is worth it. No offence marckee but I've had a quick skim of that article and I don't think it's something I should be reading right now.
Sobbed a lot.
Good, dogs suck
