What's it to be?
I feel like I want something tomato based, but I can't be sure.
What a day.
Don't have anything with me and now I'm starving.
Boots Meal Deal (boring)
Something from M&S
Try and find the falafel person who's sometimes about at the market
Something hot from the cafe next door
I'm popping to the loo and when I get back I hope you've all decided for me.
I've never had a good falafel.
definitely feels like all the ones I've tried have been shit, rather than I just don't like falafel
everywhere in Dalston
I want a jacket potato. But it's ALL the way across the roads. I will probably spend loads on something I don't really want from downstairs because I'm lazy.
Do I want hot food AND hot me? I'm just gonna get a sammich from town or sutin.
But I think the answer is still yes.
bagels would be good if you got two of them
Fruit salad for desert.
Pretty good having a free canteen at work, saved me a bomb, like.
waffer-thin ham (five slices) + chopped peppers (yellow & red) + chopped cucumber (peeled) + lettuce (for a bit of bulk)
Not sure about this. Couldn't tell you why.
The pepper is a vital ingredient
questioning the peeling of the cucumber. What are you? The fucking Queen or something?
I didn't get that far. Cucumber without peel is like a bald cat.
Better off than on
I had the new pret chicken asparagus artisan baguette. It was bloody gorgeous, really, really good.
I had their popcorn bar for dessert. Alos very good.
to get my favourite shoes (the ones with the many intricate ankle straps) re-heeled and then going to avoid Bloc (it's DOG FRIDAY but that might be dinner)and go to Lucky 7 to meet my pal and have a few drinks, not really hungry.
Beef and mustard brannigans
Peeled and sliced?
sliced and seasoned (chili flakes, black pepper)
cut the aforementioned slices into chunks, with diced red onion and cherry tomato flesh, added dried garlic, put on top of lettuce leaves that had a tiny dot of balsamic drizzle on them. rolled it up. ate it with my hands.
i'm so spoilt
I would like one.
Aren't they all veggie? As in, corn?
no! they're like a battered, deep-fried hot-dog
Thanks for asking.
ate them outside, was great, like being at the beach
Good crisps and fizzy pop from the overpriced newsagents.
and a limon San Pelligrino
i like it
so today i have had:
topped with sliced tomatoes, onions, sundried tomatoes, artichokes, fresh basil, extra cheese. i could eat this every day for the rest of my life true story.
i just want loads of bread in every meal
god bless america.
like a doughnut. oh my god I want a doughnut.
escal-opes or esca-lopes ?
frozen leftovers, microwaved. kale wasn;t frozen though, put that in seperate.
Feta and tomato pasta
Falafel and houmous snack thing (new)
^both were fine.
Next: their new caramel pecan crunch bar. Looks nice.
Regretting not getting (it).
Had a really weird polenta base which I enjoyed the texture of. Would eat again.
so a bunch of that with kale. Made it using the recipe in Plenty except I was missing a few of the spices (same as here if you're interested - http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/feb/07/vegetarian-recipe-spiced-lentils-yogurt)
Was great! Glad that I bothered to buy fenugreek. Fenugreek's tasty as shit. Dahl's just fucking great:
- healthy (I think)
- easily transportable (mush form stands up well to cycling around)
The Kale crisps in M&S are £2.09
Curry leaves are amazing.
Dhal is totally versatile. like saying Soup - do with it what you will, pretty much. And it can be a meal in itself or a side dish. Is there any other comparable food?
I have about 5 different versions. the black and white lentil version looks cool as.
but am looking forward to making a puy lentil dahl-type thing. Lentils are great. I need to get some curry leaves - have been using curry powder like a TOTAL PRICK.
not curry powder in most of my dishes. although it is essentially a curry powder.
singapore noodles are pretty much the only thing I use actual curry powder for - oh, and a Japanese pork & apple curry, which I made when Mr Japan was staying with us. he said it was perfect.
that Ottolenghi recipe is good. very smilar to my red-lentil recipe. shorts you on the mustard seeds though - I would use a tablespoon at least, and the same again of black onion seeds. would also add a teaspoon of garam masala, and not add any sugar. you don't need sugar. and ffs, use ghee instead of sunflower oil if you want to go all out foodie prick.
(p.s. my singapore noodles also slay)
you better make it! haha.
This is enough for 2 people. I am not 100% on some weights/measurements, and the order of doing it can be a bit fiddly. I didn’t even know how to write it out – maybe prepare all the bits at the start, ready to put all together. It’s really really quick, so once you start cooking the chicken the clock is ticking.
Vermicelli noodles – the really really thin ones. about 100g per person.
peanut oil for cooking
2 tsp curry powder
4 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp rice vinegar
2tsp sesame oil
Pinch of sugar
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tbsp fresh ginger
1 red chilli
2 spring onions, sliced diagonally
½ red pepper, thinly sliced
100g thinly sliced strips of chicken
a few prawns if you like. my wife likes them, I do not.
Fresh coriander, chopped
cook the noodles for a minute or less, leave to drain and cool (keep separating them with a couple of forks, so they don’t clump together – this is a proper pain the arse, but it’s worth it)
mix together 1 tsp curry powder, the 3 tbsp soy sauce,2 tbsp vinegar and the sugar.
Put noodles in a big bowl, pour sauce mix over and toss until combined.
Put a wok on high heat, put a couple tablespoons of peanut oil in, stir fry the chicken until almost cooked – about 5 minutes or less. Remove from wok and set aside. Turn wok down low.
Lightly beat the egg and 1tsp sesame oil together
Chop, pestle & mortar (if you have one. If you don’t have one, get one!!!), the garlic, ginger and chilli into a paste and stir in the other 1tsp of curry powder.
Put more peanut oil in the wok – add the garlic paste for a minute until fragrant, add the spring onions, pepper and peas (and prawns if using) and turn up the heat – blast them for 3 minutes to stiry fry. Return the chicken to the pan mix together and push to the side.
Add a little bit more oil if necessary, then add the egg. let it cook solid, then break it up into small pieces – you want pieces of egg in your noodles, not egg coating everything.
When it’s cooked, stir the chicken and veg into it, add the noodles to the wok, add some coriander mix together and heat through. Mix together the remaining tablespoon of soy, vinegar and teaspoon of sesame oil and add to the wok if your mix is a little dry.
will swap the chicken out for tofu and give it a go sometime soon. Thanks!
Might make some this weekend.
Someone make me a coffee?
I don't really drink coke.
It says Mate on the can...?
whenver I read any of those articles that describe the process and ingredients involved in making a can, trying to terrify you into never drinking it again - i always think. mmmm, that sounds well nice.
never drink it though. only at Christmas.
