Why does no one get assassinated anymore?

sharp_yet_blunt [Edit] [Delete] 48 replies 14:56, 20 June '14

Back in ye olden days(pre-1990's) it seemed to happen every other day. If you were president there was a 50% chance you would get assassinated before the end of your term. Celebrities were getting popped left, right and centre. Nowadays it never happens. Better Security? People channel their crazy through the internet now? Governments no longer sanction these kinds of hits? Whats the reason eh?

  • Happens all the time

Press just don't report on it, as it encourages other would-be attackers. Loads of top US politicians have 'disappeared' over the past decade.

    • That *does* sound like something the press would do.

  • You mean by a single lone gunman?

Because lots of Palestinian, Pakistani and Afghanistani politicians have been assassinated by various governments in air strikes and the like over the past few years.

    marckee | 20 Jun '14, 15:18 | X
    • Yeah specifically mean shot in broad daylight type stuff

by a single lone gunman(working for the goverment).

    • Is the first one an assassination?

i dont actually know what constitutes an assassination and what doesn't.

Is Litvinenko the poisoning one? That was definitely assassination.

        fuckyeahdubstep @sharp_yet_blunt | 20 Jun '14, 15:36 | X
        • It's got to be a prominent figure/political status

Against members of the public it's just murder no matter how symbolic the victim

  • "Kennedy had been too young, too rich,

too hansome and too lucky; he had embodied elegance and wit and finesse. His murderer had spoken for weakness, for neurasthenic darkness, for struggle without hope and for the self-defeating passions of ignorance, and he understood those forces all too well."

  • ROSCOE: Marlon what is on your mind

MARLON: My skull Roscoe as is standard anatomy

ROSCOE: No I meant what are you thinking about

MARLON: Oh I was thinking about the topic of religion. I disagree with Justin Hawkins that God is just a big idiot and religion is just a story made up to keep everyone from robbing shops.

    ROSCOE: Why is that?

MARLON: Because, Roscoe -- the HUMAN EYE!! THE AMAZING HUMAN EYE, Roscoe!!

    ROSCOE: Intriguing, please elaborate.

MARLON: Do you not remember Roscoe when I got that Happy Meal -- there was a human eye in there! It was the coolest thing ever and that's why there MUST BE A GOD

    ROSCOE: Yes that was cool

MARLON: Also solidifying my belief system, if you cast your mind back to the fifth season of Lost when Hurle--

(suddenly a sniper rifle bullet smashes through MARLON's head showering viscera all over the place)

ROSCOE: Oh no Roscoe has been assassinated

(MARLON comes out of a shop and looks at MARLON's corpse)

MARLON: Actually that was my identical twin uncle Armin Tamzarian

ROSCOE: Oh thank god we can still have all our adventures

MARLON: Actually for all the time you have known Marlon he was pretending to be me so all your experiences were with Armin Tamzarian

    ROSCOE: Oh right

    MARLON: Yes

ROSCOE: Would you like to eat his share of raw live haddock

MARLON: No that is disgusting now that I am around things are surely going to change because I am an all business successful entrepreneur
