good morning vietnam
A few years ago, people were constantly talking about it being the best film ever and stuff. Weird.
actually really enjoyable, though long and racist
It's 75 years old this year. Revised critical opinion seems to be that it rambles a bit too much and is kind of racist (like a lot of 75 year olds).
I'm always talking about Beverley Hills Cop.
I'd accept Coming to America though.
My gf had't heard of it!
Not looking good for Robin Williams!
all the films?
Was never that good in the first place
never watched it
It's kind of a mind fuck.
my dad fought in vietnam, so used to talk about good morning vietnam quite a lot. there probably was no mythical age in which people were talking about good morning vietnam a lot, just i was living with my dad.
this thread's a shame
What did he do in Vietnam if you don't mind me asking?
doing bridges and that
he's australian. there were australian & nz troops in vietnam, just not very many compared to the US
DJing was at parties on bases rather than radio
He fathered a child out there too.
The skateboarding films of the 80s
prayer of the rollerboys
Clark Gable utters an obscenity! Or so I've heard from a friend of a friend of course.
No-one cares about Video Nasties any more. Like Child's Play and all that carry on.
No-one gives a cack about The Exorcist any more either. About 30 years of being the go-to benchmark for destroying audiences with fear and now literally no-one cares about it. Apart from Mark Kermode, of course.
I thought that was more stuff like Cannibal Holocaust and Last House on the Left.
But it did become used as a catch-all term for horrible films the tabloid press didn't like. Think Natural Born Killers was even in there when we were in the midst of the post James Bulger moral outcry.
wasn't a video nasty as such, but after it was implicated in the James Bulger killing there was a brief moral panic over it. The film itself is a fairly innocuous and rather daft straight-to-video horror flick. It's certainly nothing like Cannibal Holocaust or Driller Killer.
Everyone was talking about it for years. Finally comes out. Is shit. No-one talks about it. Done.
But your point still stands.
Especially the Batman ones and how they're not really that keen on them. Just don't hear about him enough.
3 of those are by Alan Parker who seems to have been written out of cinema history despite being absolutely fucking brilliant.
thinking it sounded like it'd be up my alley. really didn't rate it at all. just way too random and flimsy
Saw it when it came out in 1986 & thought it was the best thing I've ever seen; watched it again a few years later & was very disappointed.
i think i'll thoroughly enjot it
KIND of good, kind of terrible
for all of, I dunno, half an hour?
Good times, them.
like The English Patient and crap like that
I imagine a lot of people quietly slipped that one out of the DVD collection and off to CEX at some point.
it's one of his best performances. Whole film is fucking brilliant.
My word it's shit.
The original is a work of unrivalled genius.
The Jerk, All of Me, Man With Two Brains
Three of the funniest films ever made but he's made so much rubbish since then that people have forgotten them.
that ruins it
Brendan Fraser, Pauly Shore, Sean Austin what's not to like?
seems to be persona non grata these days. The Hitcher and Wedlock were both great films.
he did that Hobo With A Shotgun a couple of years back when there was that mini resurgence of Grindhouse stuff
the OSCAR WINNER
but couldn't even remember what it was called
cos he was a bomb disposal guy as well.
cant remember any other films he likes, but remember that he really resented me forcing him to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on my 16th birthday.
that's a film people used to talk about too. bang up for rewatching it
Could have blown up his DJing hands by accident.
and Argo already seem to have suffered the same fate
Still good but the likes of The Wire have made it look very dated.
Could imagine that it has depreciated with time.
Actually, need to go back and revist afro-american directed films form that era. Had a lot of time for films like Juice, New Jack City, Menace II Society Society, Dead Presidents, Do the Right Thing... Wonder how they'd hold up.
"I watched 12 Years a Slave this morning. Didn't really like it. It's about a black guy who gets kidnapped and kept as a slave for...er...a while"
"Yes, that's it"
It is now known as "Slave for a While" in our house
Blatanlty rounded up for a greater impact. When will your web of historical lies end Hollywood?!
A film made in 1999 and featuring Steve Martin AND Eddie Murphy that still manages to be very funny.
Crock of shite.
police academy 6
that last one's a lie, i talk about theodore rex at least once a week. that's even more than i talk about speed 2: cruise control.
obviously like shit across the media when it won the Oscar but it seemed to go into a whole different stratosphere for a while, couldn't get away from it. See also: Mamma (fucking) Mia
Used to get quoted constantly.
mostly because everyone suddenly realised (in slo-mo, with a coffee cup falling to the floor) that they'd been duped the whole time, and that it was the shittest fucking movie ever made
i love how much you hate that film
I just assumed no one would mention it because no one talks about that film anymore. Hats off to you Balonz :)
