Some words are better known to men than to women and the other way around. But which are they?
men know these words:
codec (88, 48)

golem (89, 56)
mach (93, 63)
humvee (88, 58)
claymore (87, 58)
scimitar (86, 58)
kevlar (93, 65)
paladin (93, 66)
bolshevism (85, 60)
biped (86, 61)
dreadnought (90, 66)
reminds me of a teacher at school who told me when i was about 11 that i was very bolshie
women know these words:
taffeta (48, 87)
tresses (61, 93)
bottlebrush (58, 89)
flouncy (55, 86)
mascarpone (60, 90)
decoupage (56, 86)

wisteria (61, 89)
taupe (66, 93)
flouncing (67, 94)
peony (70, 96)
bodice (71, 96)
I knew 11/12 for the first list and only 5/12 for the second
so it must be right idk
8/12 for second
When I say know, I mean I got the definition right.
The only word on the list I'd never seen before was decoupage
I thought that meant separating train carriages
Decoupage is sticking pits of paper onto something.
your vocabulary will expand in no time at all.
Woah there fella, best not overwork the little ladies' minds by including TOO many different words.
I'm comfortable with that.
than the men's. More than happy with that, now that I've googled the ones I didn't know.
who the fuck doesn't know what a bottlebrush is. Turns out I don't.
(but you do get bottle brushes on the child rearing circuit)
I'm calling bullshit on this endeavour. I am going to do their test now.
the intro says "(between brackets: %men who know the word, %women who know the word):"
either they are giving % to 2 decimal places and uses commas instead of full stops or they mean actual responder numbers.
It's these kinds of things that undermine the veracity of their claims
I think this is by the same group who did the nonsense-word knowledge experiment I posted on here a couple of months ago.
this is the same experiment but repurposed to measure the numbers of known words against genders and see whether there is any difference.
the Marc who posted that blog post, I imagine, is the Marc who I know who sent me this test in the first place.
They also did this 20 least known words in English with it as well.
How many of these do you know? 0/20 for me.
