Alright, 'fess up. Which muppets here are in the 44% who wash chicken before cooking it?

She always used to moan at me and my dad if we put meat in without washing it.

I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can't get the spices right!

but apparently a lot of people do because that is just what they have always done. It has always been advised not to wash your Christmas turkey, but that is kind of obvious as the act of wrestling it into your sink is going to do more harm than good. You see it a lot in Indian or Carribean recipes, it always starts with "thoroughly wash your chicken".
Have I gone and done an #accidentalracism?
perhaps it is a "cultural thing" and you aren't sensitive to that. Who knows. it just struck me that loads of the recipes I saw for jerk chicken included washing the chicken, as if it was a crucial part of the process.
I'm terrified of the stuff. Wash my hands constantly when handling it and overcook it every time just in case
