I'm hoping I'll find out today. I'm not even supposed to be going out to have fun for a few weeks so I hope they're good.
you all know the one
Top 5 if I'm really into it that day
Can't understand why people dislike it. Lovely noisy messy psychedelic fun times for all, and at times very beautiful.
you have to be a right cunt not to like it.
Every time I get to it, the opening bars make me reach for the skip button. Don't even get me started on his voice. JFC.
Yes, that *must* be it.
She admitted she's going to marry a carrot!
I spoke to an English teacher friend of mine about them last Friday and he assured me that he used the lyric to one of their songs to engage with his GCSE students. apparently they are very poetic.
a rare feat
Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
Billy Joel - Best Of
Had it on my iPod for ages until it just sort of clicked with me one day and quickly became one my all time favourites.
plasticnickers, paresfone, ronco, manreturns, rightfoot etc
but I'm not like OHMYGODI'MLOSINGMYFUCKINSHITABOUTIT, they're quite good, that's all
I'll be deciding who my dis friends are tonight then by the sounds of things
But then a lot of my friends think they're great
Hey, it would be boring if we all agreed on everything, let's just have some beers and get on with it.
I fell in love with it at a time when I was less of a jaded, cynical nobhead though so I still love them now and the show the other night was wonderful.
Shove that up your bollocks.
fun, messy, brassy folk music. I'm not saying it's the be all and end all best music ever, but it's a lot better than most of the stuff plasticniki listens to.
i don't wanna be right (about music)
Whoever wins, we all lose.
doesn't surprise me that someone who's a fan of those shouty students can't appreciate NMH's haunting melodies, and naked honesty that burns like a red hot poker stabbing you in the brain
Shove that up your cakehole.
to make that weedy "sound".
Do some of them just do the shouting?
i think i'd cry if i was forced to endure them again too.
Not so hot on Sufjan Stevens, if that helps?
way to demean hauntings
seeing them at green man aswell :)
so fuck off IDIOT DICKHEADS
I decided to go again.
"lol i can easy bench 420 ur mom haha get good or get kicked fagot"
But if you do, then Ho-BOY!
(in a good way)
we'll waaaaait for our miiiiracle
god is a plaaaaaaace wheeeeeere some holy spectacle lies
they're one of the first 'obscure indie bands' that teenagers get into when they discover music sites on the internet. You know, one of the first bands they find that most of their friends and family members have never heard of and they can really embrace as being THEIR kind of music.
It also helps that they're really really good.
I realise one band came before the other - but if you didn't know who then you wouldn't be able to guess.
still would've been rubbish, but slightly less obviously
They sound like muzak for stapler merchants compared to NMH
I would seriously love ITAOTS a hundred times more if all the songs were covered in order by The Decemberists.
I love lo-fi production, although I actually think ITAOTS has pretty impressive production on its varied instruments. I love it when people who can't really sing show real emotion and intensity in their voice. I love it when people who can sing, sing badly on purpose etc. Because it's real and I relate to it. In comparison to me The Decemberists seem like they came in a flat pack from IKEA and someone just put them together, soulless.
but The Decemberists aren't soulless by any stretch... citations available upon request but frankly I'm too tired!
His voice is good, he strains but hits every note, the production is excellent not really Lofi at all unless anything that intentionally uses overdrive/saturation is 'poor production'.
Decemberists are just way to studied, they try really hard to be what NMH are effortlessly
NMH are the band the decemberists wish they could be, the decemberists are completely without merit.
conversation as follows:
me: "is this Neutral Milk Hotel?"
identikit fringed indie shop assistant girl: *face lights up* "yes! yes it is!"
me: "yeah... never really got into Neutral Milk Hotel"
i-f-i-s-a-g: *face falls*
they are OK
they're not that good but they were on the stereo when everyone got their first handjob at a 6th form party so it's all pretty nostalgic
was like a big 6th form synchronised wanking?
match of the day :(
What a beautiful face I have found in this place
That is circling all 'round the sun
What a beautiful dream that could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Find me a better album to sing to yourself in the mirror when you're feeling a bit angsty and you'd be wrong. The above lyrics beautifully summarise a certain kind of love. I did delete the Jesus song though.
"…and now a song for Jesus Christ. And since this seems to confuse people I’d like to simply say that I mean what I sing although the theme of endless endless on this album is not based on any religion but more in the belief that all things seem to contain a white light within them that I see as eternal."
i always heard it as "*jesus christ* i love you" as in he's emphasising the fact he loves someone else (probably anne frank let's be real)
"I love you, JFC, JFC I love you, yes I do."
it's only like a quarter of the whole song, and it's a great song. there's no need for people to get so dawkins about it.
I hate it because he can't fucking sing.
until the heavenly 1-2 of Ghost -> Untitled, which justifies the band's existence, IMO
That's a really good song too
EG this one
might give them an actual listen then
I think they're ok but probably don't get the fuss
since when do people on here talk about music
