bonus points for family members
this thread stinks
they still have the same number
interesting fact - i don't know my mobile, or my current home phone number
i don't really know why we have one - does seem totally obsolete really
landlines are vastly superior in terms of quality, if nothing else.
can remember the car reg of our first family car as well
We're talking pre-'01XXX' std codes
It wasn't uncommon at the time for homes to have a 'party' line. This meant that they effectively shared a phone line with the next door neighbour; if one of them was on the phone, the other had to wait until they'd finished.
did you have to connect calls via the operator?
The main thing though was that you could pick up the phone to make a call and have to put it back down if you heard voices on there already.

My mobile number has been the same since I was 13-14. 15+ years! pretty weirdly proud of that one.
Not gonna type it out though, cause what's the point? Total waste of everyone'e time.
If the first two digits of the last six are the same they'll be from the same town
wierdly. Surprised that I do tbh.
but i'm not sure which friend
good number that
Because it's still my Dad's house.
my mam's made an effort of keeping it with every move
Childhood home number pre-96ish
Childhood home number post-96ish (still my parents' number)
Mum's mobile number
My mobile number
Schoolfriend's landline circa 1999-2001
Live and Kicking
Current work number (x3 extensions - me, reception, IT helpdesk)
Only that last line is new since I was 16. I blame short attention or something, dunno.
I still remember how annoyed I was when NTL-World made us change it
lived outside of the city and had slightly differently formatted numbers, e.g five numbers then six numbers (just six if within the same town) instead of four, three, then four (or just three then four if the same area code).
If you were brought up in South Manchester then until the cable companies came in and started making up thier own rules you were either 881, 860 or 861 followed by four digits.
and now youre old and everything sucks.
i can still remember 090 11 10 60 10 and the annoying melody it had
other than that, i can unsurprisingly still remember my parents current home number which was where i lived from 3 - 18
Used to know loads of others.
Don't even know my home, work or partner's phone number now, just my mobile and my folks.
