Went to the European graphic novelists night at the BL last night, it was fantastic. Not one for literary nights usually but it was fascinating and smart and funny.
Got in early today as I'm taking an extended lunch break to go see Godzilla at the IMAX.
Then going to a talk at the RGS that hopefully has free booze as per usual.
Then seeing a friend who's visiting from San Fran.
ALSO!
The THinly veiled's cousin has been staying with us and she's a photographer for Suicide Girls and so we had loads of nudey ladies around the house! But I was out :(
And i have so many meetings today and I don't think I'm gong to go to them, so it's more of an anticipatory bollocking for behaviour I am about to commit.
Went on a bat walk last night, saw 2 common pipistrelles!
We had these little bat frequency gadgets that click whenever the bats use their echolocation. The other people on it were so cute.
Massage day at work today, we were talking about it yesterday and a colleague was saying, 'yeah they go in quite hard it's great' and then I said, 'yeah sometimes I think it's a bit too hard, I'd like it a bit gentle' and then there was this awkward moment...
With Cope by Manchester Orchestra in my ears. One of my records of the year thus far.
Today is going to suck heinous donkey balls. Got to be up til the wee hours designing an on-the-fly book list/catalogue made up of photos that booksellers are sending back to Dropbox during a book fair in Madrid, ready to present to buyers for the morning. Getting some red bull.
Wore my gym kit on my walk to work today but got to work and realised I'd forgotten my bra and my knickers. So I am now wearing a stanky sports bra and need to go buy a new bra at lunch so I can't go gym at lunch. Also not showered yet cause was gonna go gym at lunch.
Also bought some porridge that was RANK. Really stringy like it had mozzerella in it.
remembered a gym tshirt and my trainers but my shorts i knew were in my gym locker.
So trekked all the way to kensington - also remembered my gym card - got to my locker and then remembered that i had a new set of keys for the new house. and the old set were back home with my gym keys on the ring. All of that for nothing.
Went to a coffee shop and ate a massive pastry in sadness :(
Because clippers are always tour-de-france fantasists who want to zoom past everyone, but they're also shit at getting their feet back in the clips so at lights they wobble along slowly, get overtaken, and then aggressively re-overtake everyone. And they're usually wearing lycra.
before i'm back out into the world of freelancing. cannae wait. not looking forward to having to hassle people to get paid but at least i'll have my freeeeeedooooooooooooom.
But I bought a succulent for my flat. It's the first plant for my flat. I feel less alone now. but I am worried I'm going to start talking to it like it's a person.
and I think I've found a couple of weeks I oculd potentially take off, so obviously now I am looking at holidays while I should be working. I need some sun.
Just got an email from my university in Japan telling me I need to pay about £300 because a panel of the flooring in my room (maybe 30cm x 7cm) came up. Totally not my fault, but apparently -any- damage to the property is the renters fault in Japan. Can I just ignore it? Do they have any way of enforcing it in the UK / would it be worth it? And if I didn't pay it, would it prevent me from entering Japan again?
Any rough ideas would be useful. I don't have the money, I'm barely managing to keep myself together because Japan and this university destroyed my mental health, and I object in principle to paying for damage that is presumably wear-and-tear.
particuarly if it is disputed as in this case. Just make sure you make it clear that you don't accept liability and that you will contest it if it comes to that.
because he's been on sabbatical for the past three months. And he's coming back in seven days! I can't wait. So looking forward to my days of listening to the radio while typing and drinking tea, instead of endless meetings.
realised that england v italy is when i'm in latvia. Hmmm.
chess tonight which will be looooooong. but working from home tomorrow so that's ok. Looking forward to some bottom of the barrel beer with the internet on saturday.
my (perhaps very obvious) revision tip is: go to the library. Don't do it in your bedroom, you'll fall asleep or timewaste or watch tv. Nothing else to do in the library but work!
instead i just wrote a short story for the first time in fucking years. it's about the glasgow subway and i'm gonna submit it to a zine thing. i think it's quite good but i'm not sure it might actually be shite
half day at work then off to cardiff to sit in some beer gardens then play a gig then spend the weekend with my family.
aside from missing the thinly, i'm a content chap.
anyone got any recommendations of something nice to do around paddington if i'm not able to get my early train and have to knock about there for a bit?
Putting on a gig at The Old Blue Last after work, bit sleepy though. Six days of work between now and next Friday and then I'm playing some punk rock shows with a mates band and going to Primavera. Dead excited.
found a business card holder and texted the guy who it belonged to asking of he wanted it sent on. He's like being massively grateful. Looked him up and apparently he's got a really impressive cv and was an army officer and now does loads of business and HR consultancy stuff. Might enclose a copy of my cv in the Jiffy bag...
drank a lot of beer and listened to KONG loudly all evening yesterday
antisocial behavior
didn't need a jacket today, got a bit of a sweat going on now
I had my back door open and a variety of hits playing all evening, antisocially,
including Easy Lover which I think we can all agree is in the top 5 songs ever written.
drafty
Phil Collins sure can write a tune to bust a move to
forgot about Kong
they were great
Sitting on a central London rooftop
With wagtails jumping around me. Lovely.

Everything's coming up Milhouse!
You're a very busy bee.
I've condensed all if my social things for the next two weeks into this 24 hours
I've just got work from now on :(
ALSO!
The THinly veiled's cousin has been staying with us and she's a photographer for Suicide Girls and so we had loads of nudey ladies around the house! But I was out :(
Did the photographer just
bring the nudey ladies with her or was your house used as the set in an erotic photoshoot?
Also, my sympathies, my thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
House was an erotic photoshoot house
Looking forward to pointing out my lamp or chair in the background of sexy pics
^ living the dream
Argh it's
I think my work here is done already tbh
Morning
tis a right lovely day.
Not got much planed apart from guitar lesson this evening.
Have a good day all.
I'm awaiting a bollocking from my boss
Me too
I turned up late
and other stuff
And i have so many meetings today and I don't think I'm gong to go to them, so it's more of an anticipatory bollocking for behaviour I am about to commit.
I didn't turn up for work yesterday
As I was hangover run bed eating 20 quids worth of Pret A Manger.
MITS
Have you seen our former employer is proper f*cked?
hullo

Today is my Friday
but I'm off to Barnsley tonight, so y'know. I can only be so smug about it.
Looking forward to seeing my folks. It's been a while.
It's my Friday!1113121311!!!
On train to work
With Cope by Manchester Orchestra in my ears. One of my records of the year thus far.

to that opening line
great stuff
far, far too nice a day to be in work
My clients are all being a bit needy today, though, so tough shit for me.
Payday tomorrow and off to Glasgow to see my niece, so just need to pull through today and everything's alright with the world.
Did 72 miles on the bike yesterday
Will be out doing a similar distance as soon as the washing has finished. It's nice not being at work.
I'm in such a shit mood
Like on the verge of a minor breakdown.

Oh meow :(
But it's sunny! You probably look fine. Also it's nearly pub crawl time.
ALSO check out this amazing cat which I like to believe is named after me: http://instagram.com/famousniki
got up real early t'other day
remembered a gym tshirt and my trainers but my shorts i knew were in my gym locker.
So trekked all the way to kensington - also remembered my gym card - got to my locker and then remembered that i had a new set of keys for the new house. and the old set were back home with my gym keys on the ring. All of that for nothing.

had some friends round for board games last night
played a game called Quantum which was great fun. Also played String Railway which was extremely charming.
It's pretty grey here today #welcometoScotland
Quantum is going to be my pay day treat this month
Two racing-bike clip-in-pedals lycra-wearing jebends
overtook me then crashed into each other this morning. Then brilliantly tried to blame a taxi driver for the fact that they were both idiots.
Top stuff, wish it happened more often.
i might get clipin pedals
They get on my wick
Because clippers are always tour-de-france fantasists who want to zoom past everyone, but they're also shit at getting their feet back in the clips so at lights they wobble along slowly, get overtaken, and then aggressively re-overtake everyone. And they're usually wearing lycra.
definitely gonna get them
no lycra though
good for you
PS are you going to live in France forever?
watched star wars episode v last night
it's really good.
last day in a job i dislike
before i'm back out into the world of freelancing. cannae wait. not looking forward to having to hassle people to get paid but at least i'll have my freeeeeedooooooooooooom.
...spending 80% of your time chasing up payment on invoices ;)
but at least i can do that from home
sat on the sofa in my pants while watching x files and eating cereal
*poached eggs
I wish i was freelance sometimes, but I do like the security of not being plus i'm not in demand enough to be freelance.
I'm in a bad mood about my bike still
and other things.
But I bought a succulent for my flat. It's the first plant for my flat. I feel less alone now. but I am worried I'm going to start talking to it like it's a person.
call it wilson
It's a girl.
call it wilsonia
I was thinking 'Gertrude'
old-fashioned, has faint whiff of impending cat lady
sounds good.
that sounded mean
long time no see. hope you're well.
I really wish i wasn't at work
And next to a pool/by the sea with a pina colada.
I've just been looking at the holiday diary
and I think I've found a couple of weeks I oculd potentially take off, so obviously now I am looking at holidays while I should be working. I need some sun.
Going to corsica in August
Yesssssssssss
Everytime I tick off a job
nothing new comes in to replace it. I have about five things left to do here. Lovely stuff.
Almost Friday.
Lawyer-types of DiS:

Any rough ideas would be useful. I don't have the money, I'm barely managing to keep myself together because Japan and this university destroyed my mental health, and I object in principle to paying for damage that is presumably wear-and-tear.
Did you pay a deposit when you moved in?
No
Then the only issue I might see is if they take it up with your university here
and try to bill you through them. If yours is the same as mine, they won't let you advance a year/graduate if you have outstanding debts.
Ah, hadn't thought of that
Might be easier if I just wait for that to happen though. My UK uni will be infinitely more understanding.
I'd ignore it and see what happens
Even if they do contact your uni you could just say that it's not a debt to them so not relevant to graduating etc?
OFT has said this is probably against the law
particuarly if it is disputed as in this case. Just make sure you make it clear that you don't accept liability and that you will contest it if it comes to that.
just had some really awful bad news
which i don't want to go into, and has taken the wind out of my sails a bit.
:(
Much love C_B
Hope you're okay.
thanks
appreciated
I think the short honey moon period after my annual leave is over
as there's loads of stuff to get on with now. S'pose it's good to keep busy but I kind of liked being on cruise control.
I've been doing my boss's job as well as mine
because he's been on sabbatical for the past three months. And he's coming back in seven days! I can't wait. So looking forward to my days of listening to the radio while typing and drinking tea, instead of endless meetings.
tired as per
realised that england v italy is when i'm in latvia. Hmmm.
chess tonight which will be looooooong. but working from home tomorrow so that's ok. Looking forward to some bottom of the barrel beer with the internet on saturday.
I have my first and only exam next Tuesday
I have no motivation to do any work for it. Someone help?
do some fucking work, you lazy piece of shit
You disgust me.
did that help?
good luck!
my (perhaps very obvious) revision tip is: go to the library. Don't do it in your bedroom, you'll fall asleep or timewaste or watch tv. Nothing else to do in the library but work!
contrasting approaches to helping
hump dayyyyyyyy
you get my mix?
I saw Wreckless Eric do Le Beat Group Electronique last night
complete with cardboard box drumkit. It was excellent.
Do any DiSers live in or near Derby?

dad's birthday, la :(
Awww :(
i'm meant to be writing a presentation for a course symposium
instead i just wrote a short story for the first time in fucking years. it's about the glasgow subway and i'm gonna submit it to a zine thing. i think it's quite good but i'm not sure it might actually be shite
I got an extra hour in bed this morn, it was great
I'm in a procrastinating kinda mood today
good night's sleep last night
half day at work then off to cardiff to sit in some beer gardens then play a gig then spend the weekend with my family.
aside from missing the thinly, i'm a content chap.
anyone got any recommendations of something nice to do around paddington if i'm not able to get my early train and have to knock about there for a bit?
SECRET FRIDAY!!!!!
you're out of my top ten now, shucks.
What's a 'SECRET FRIDAY' ?
nobody knows
Not in work tomorrow
So technically not a Friday and now that we all know
not so secret.
Will you be in on ACTUAL FRIDAY or is that a SECRET SATURDAY?
:(
well
that was mean.
I'm sorry.
That was mean. I'm sorry shucks. I blame the bike people and work people.
we all do mmp
fucking bike people >:-(
It's dead sunny and I have an awesome chicken and avocado wrap with a soup for lunch.
Lunch game at a peak.
Putting on a gig at The Old Blue Last after work, bit sleepy though. Six days of work between now and next Friday and then I'm playing some punk rock shows with a mates band and going to Primavera. Dead excited.

Looked him up and apparently he's got a really impressive cv and was an army officer and now does loads of business and HR consultancy stuff. Might enclose a copy of my cv in the Jiffy bag...
