what are you having?
I need ideas
beans on toast sounds alright actually
as i got done over at work. was rate good.
the nearest one is 340 miles away so I'll probably end up going for something else
So i'm having a Morrisons tex mex ready meal; it's just chicken, peperoni, chilis and rice but its pretty good.
Banana bread for pudding.
totally non-authentic but tasty vegetable tagine with cous cous
I like the look of that
right, gonna have a bash at making some minestrone soup!
I was out of ketchup
Feel really tired now.
can't eat dinner til the sun goes down
got some tomatoes to use up before they go rank so i think i'm gonna have roasted tomatoes and artichokes and onions on toast with spicy red pesto
can't believe i used to not like artichokes
(found a sachet of wasabi in the cupboard, mixed it with mayo)
just letting you know. i'm so fucking good at cooking and eating btw
guessing no bc haha who has time to actually prepare artichokes themselves lololol
spanish food is good though eh (just went to this good place in edinburgh the other day)
spanish food is good for a while until you realise that most of the food you eat on a daily basis in spain is actually quite bland and boring. tapas restaurants in the uk are better than most spanish restaurants in spain tbqh (CONTROVERSIAL)
u wot m8
maybe i've just been too basqueified
PINTXOS > TAPAS
TXISTORRA >>>> CHORIZO
yeah i realise my ideal of cool food with your drink is unrealistic in terms of what you usually get. feel like british places are overly formal when you just want enough cheap wine and olives but i can dream.
(place in edinburgh is genuinely great though (el quijote)(it's andalucian i gather so it's not what you're used to oh well))
and don't get me wrong i enjoy yer tortilla and bravas and calamares as much as anyone, but it all gets a bit samey after a while. and while menu del dias can sometimes be beautiful things, they're too often full of endless variations on 'plain slab of meat + potatoes (nae sauce)'
you know where's brilliant though, is logroño. there's a teeny grid of streets in the centre where almost every bar specialises in just one specific pintxo and they're all really good and interesting, and you can spend a night hopping round em drinking 1 euro glasses of rioja which i think is EXACTLY what you want
i applied for a job there but nada :'(
dodged a bullet, well done
once you're in a particular town/city you're stuck eating that one town's cuisine so you'd better like it (palermo's really varied and great though(i love palermo))
i know about the burnout you get in that situation but yeah finding one place where there's variety and it's cheap and everything is just the fucking best. don't care if i don't make sense anymore i just want to eat cool food and get hammered. in palermo the city centre just turns into an open air nightclub and you can buy a whole octopus for 7 euro and all the fried food ruins your night bc it makes you sober instantaneously and there's a whole street of pizzerias that give you a slice for 1 euro and a beer is 1 euro and i want to cry now
san sebastian has a massive culinary reputation but you have to be pretty rich to enjoy the interesting stuff. there are still good cheap places to be found ofc but they tended to be the less traditional ones (my fav san seb restaurant was a veggie place which is about as un-spanish/un-basque as you can get)
i think there's mostly a similar thing in italy where the traditional stuff is just what gets eaten at home so there's not as many restaurants as you'd like making it, but in certain places there's still a demand for it as snack food or a quick thing to eat while you're out. like everyone in sicily has a potbelly bc of the food but everyone in the north nibbles on rice like a saddo and talks about sashimi.
alubias negras con chorizo!
but they're never gonna come close to frijoles negros
Quorn Fillets wrapped in quorn bacon covered in Hunter's sauce
served with mashed potato, sweetcorn, peas and purple broccolli
Rocket, red onion and tomato salad.
Plain ice cream. And do you know what it tasted of? Frozen cream.
Bought a courgette for 50p, a bag of pasta for 60p, pasata for 45p, jar of black olives 50p. Bottle of olive oil for £2. Bag of rocket for 25p.
Grated the courgette and fried it in a bit of olive oil for a few mins then added garlic, cheapo mixed herbs and salt then added half the pasata and a few chopped olives. Simmer till pasata is reduced. Boiled half the pasta. Added a couple f spoonfuls of water to the sauce an stirred in the rocket. Drain pasta, bit of olive oil, mix it all up with black pepper. Serves 2 and cost about £1.04.
how is it twenty to ten and my tea's not ready yet? omfg
minestrone soup: 4/10
I had some cullen skink at the weekend and it was unbelievably good.
I should try to make that next.
It increases even the tinned ones to 8.4/10
just had some more, might upgrade it to a 5.5/10.
if I had cut the potatoes up smaller they would have cooked a bit more and this could have very well been a 7/10
it was righteous
Hasn't sobered me up one bit.
or some humous and bread.
