strange lack of coverage in the press as well until the last day or so.
The fact that 200 people can be kidnapped and held somewhere without being found in this day and age is pretty weird. Terrible for the parents.
Can kinda see why it might not be possible to find a relatively small group of people immediately.
it's pretty normal. :(
... but particularly when it's Islamic extremism as they don't have common ground with a frothing-at-the-mouth white van man readership to scare them into thinking (obviously completely wrongly) "ALL TEH MUSLIMS ARE EVIL + EXTREMISTS"
Same with this awful event.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Kunming_attack
Don't remember hearing a peep about Kunming. Nasty.
Boston bombings which killed 3 people were top news for days, even had their own dedicated scrolling section on BBC for ages.
70 people killed the other week in Iraq (it think?), hardly even made the top of the page
obviously what's happened but also the delay and lack of coverage, the apparent lack of action being taken to find them and the fact that it has been done in the name of islam which will add plenty of fuel to the right-wing nut job fire which is already burning pretty fiercely. its all really really bleak and i can't imagine it having any positive ending unfortunately
i guess that might explain why the news coverage has ramped up. worrying situation.
And I can't imagine the media being worried about libelling them if it wasn't.
Got me reading into the group's other recent activities as well. Pretty horrific.
My mind tries to deflect from it by making "bloody hell Procul Harum really have become evil haven't they?" type jokes, rather than trying to take in depressing articles.
Go for saying something obvious about a horrific event, or go for the Procul Harem gag. You can't have it both ways.
Should really have gone full bore with some whiter shade of pale gag as well. Guess I was looking for an internet equivalent of sniggering and saying "I shouldn't say this . . ."
I felt your pain
did the bbc really gloss over this? apparently in similar attacks in the past these kids get sold into the sex trade, really upsetting that there isn't more being done about this
and today when Boco Haram claimed responsibility.
The Guardian and Channel 4 news have devoted a fair bit more time to it.
