Seems like a complete waste of time - for all animals really.
Sensible answers only - this is a moker free thread.
wish day length was more varied across the world. days in Africa should be 2 weeks long
Benefit towards being awake all the time, and that well rested animals have the advantage over those who aren't will probably be the reason.
What benefits are there to not resting? There are almost none. Bear in mind artificial light has only existed for the past few thousand years. Not enough time on the evolutionary scale for any effect. There just isn't any advantage for us.
Mind to rest, all that good stuff. I have had barely any sleep for a month as my sister was living with me and woke up at half four in the morning and crashed around as much as possible for the month. It nearly destroyed me.
and I don't know why. Feels like I can't bear the boredom of going to sleep so I just open my eyes over and over again and look at my phone and stuff. Cheers.
So nice to have our celebrations so close!
even though it makes for a waxy buildup tmi
don't like having music on out loud when i'm in bed for some reason
quite like it when i have a mild migraine at bedtime cos it kind of slows down my brain and makes my thoughts more focussed so i can just lie there thinking about stuff without feeling bored or getting distracted
caffeine? I get like that if I have one of those iced coffees at any point in the day
“As far as I know,” he answered, “the only reason we need to sleep that is really, really solid is because we get sleepy.”
As we don't know why we sleep, we don't know why we haven't evolved to not sleep.
And it's how the lizard people brainwash us.
maybe actually better than sex
im pro sleep there should be more of it.
the best sleep is bonus sleep, when its say 3pm on a sunday thinking i'll just lie down for a bit, i'll just crawl under the duvet, i'll just rest my eyes for a second. wake up 3 hours later realise ive wasted the day, am now overheated and uncomfortable in my twisted clothes, but at the time of drifting off it is the best. wish there was a way of sustaining that falling asleep feeling
While I like sleeping, I kinda wish I could feel well rested after 4 or 5 hours sleep. I like staying up at night, even if I'm by myself, just to netflix binge and read articles online, but it'd be nice to be able to get up early at the same time and not just feel tired and shitty all day. I kinda feel like I've wasted an evening/morning if I have a lot of sleep.
and realise you can just go back to sleep again. Amazing Radio have this ambient music show on Sunday mornings called 'The Amazing Chill' (lol) and it's perfect for this.
we wouldn't sleepwalk into a nanny state and lucid dream our lives under a genetically priviliged monarchy. Am I right Mokes???
in that you know longer get the signal 'hey buddy you have to sleep' but it's not a stimulant so you're completely normal on it and can sleep when ever you want.
That sounds kind of awesome but I'm worried it'll fuck up and make it so you lose the ability to sleep and go a bit mental :(
instead of believing everything they read on the Internet
worked like the augmentations and skills system in Deus Ex (the first one)
is people who pretend they don't sleep eight hours a day.
Weirdest lie ever.
damages life expectancy
*downs some whisky*
You need sleep to carry out some essential biochemical maintenance stuff in your brain (afaik nobody's 100% on exactly what those are, but there are lots of strong possibilities).
A mechanism to avoid sleep would need some kind of trade off in terms of resources or energy or functionality.
I think some animals don't sleep too.
So if we didn't sleep then everyone just be going around as little weird wrinkly babies forever going to the pub and stuff. ID would be a nightmare and they'd have to make special busses so that the bus driving babies could teach the pedals and stuff. The fridge would have to be lower as well
I highly recommend this book:-
Some really fascinating stuff in there.
