Ive been a long time defender of Gervais but FUCK ME, that was truly appalling
and came to the same conclusion. I really have no idea how he thought this was a good concept for a tv series.
It makes me think what must be going on in his mind and that makes me sad
He's been given a third series I think.
Kind of think he has good intentions but it's pretty misguided. Like in the first series some suit suggests Derek should get assessed but Derek doesn't see the point, seems like a well meaning labels don't matter everyone is different kind of message but I wonder how people affected feel about that, a diagnostic label is needed to access service and support, self understanding and some shielding from judgment if others etc. just seems like his view on something where he should let others speak for themselves. I don't know maybe he did research it and consult people. As a series I think it has it's moments
It is a nice show though, I was very sceptical till my brother made me watch a couple of them. It's not something I'd go back to but something I defend in forum posts like this.
Remember how Life's Too Short had loads of jokes, but absolutely no heart or sympathetic characters? Seems like he's gone too far the other way now; incredibly schmaltzy and sentimental, really short on laughs.
but this was something else.
That Kev character is appalling. And now Karl has left after about 30 seconds in it
but the bits I have seen, it seems like it's purely a vehicle for RG to be totally regressed and just behave like a child. Which is kind of creepy and weird to watch, and doesn't feel like anything other than a grown man entering a child-like state for entirely indulgent reasons.
He's a very strange man.
but it pressed all my buttons a little bit too firmly (WA-HEEY) so didn't watch last night as i'm not in the right state for getting upset by the telly. i really like gervais, shame that episode has been received so badly - sounds like it was pretty awful.
there's a bit in the episode where he advertises it, and also tries to get something trending.
theres also a bit where Kev sings a song about the female anatomy.
and Karl's exit is the most hastily written thing ive seen
i don't think i can watch that.
only seen the adverts but that's enough to make me want to self harm
hes doing a film about Brent as a struggling musician. Steve isnt involved at all :(
Mostly wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be but I just feel incredibly uncomfortable watching Gervais in it. If he got someone else to play the character it might be acceptable, but regardless of all the schmaltziness it obviously just looks like one big excuse for him to pull more faces.
