hello what do you use to practice? is it a room share or do you book slots? is it decent? how much is it?
it was a nice space, not too pricey from what i remember. The music we made however was abominable
I liked the bit where we just fucked around at the start.
I haveno idea which person Noblet was - the guitartist who could barely hide his disgust, or the extrememly cheerful drummer.
I was the idiot wearing a suit to a band prac.
seem to recall some good bass work, but yeah wasn't really feeling it
please keep it that way
It was a strange old evening.
Up here in the East Mids we pay £130 per month for 2 practices a week and equipment storage. There's also a bar at the location.
like 25 quid for 4 hours or something.
Being in a band is the most overrated thing ever.
It's just hard work but the rewards are awesome.
cheap enough, zone one and as long as you're noisy (terrible sound proofing) the equipment works and the staff aren't knobs (like in Unit 9 in Balham, allegedly)
seriously though never go there
or Husky studios in Elephant & Castle are good too.
Christ. She must be coming on for a decade.
and cheap. I can't remember how cheap though.
Kafri Studios in Haggerston is also nice, but a little more pricey I think?
and he mentioned holloway road, assume it must be this
who would like to recommend options for a solo artist? I basically need somewhere to test and run through a guitar and laptop setup through a PA, and very little else.
to go and blast my saxamaphone.
and rooz studios in old street which is cheap at the weekends.
all their equipment is knackered and the rooms are shitholes and even if it's cheaper than elsewhere you'll spend half the time fucking about trying to get stuff to work
We use Enterprise all the time. It's cheap and if you get to know the boys that work there then always ask them for the best room (i.e. equipment working). Technically, all equipment should be working and it gets stuffy in there, but make sure you got a fan. I dunno...I mean the feedback from the microphones are a constant ball-ache but I do love going there and then heading to 12 bar and getting wankered after practice.
after wasting half a practice trying to get them to replace the knackered amp in my room with them going 'nah it's your cables mate, nah it's your pedals mate, nah it's your guitar mate'
fuck off, mate
maybe it's because i got tits, but generally I've had no problem when things haven't worked and they've fixed my pedals for free and put on guitar strings. Yes I know...I'm an awful musician.
anyway 25 quid for 3 hour rehearsal (there's only two of us so things get pricey) is really good for central.
One on Brixton Hill (nice amps, small room (s?), nice man)
Enterprise (hot turd)
Unit 9 (mardy)
Zed One (Camden - used to be good - nice folks - no idea now)
Now we have a coveted spot in Fortress (nice, occasionally lethal electrics)
or i'm reading it wrong
the big one was quite expensive, but i don't remember the smaller room being expenisive.
looking to see what else is out there
Ah. Fortress is my preference, by far, but it's been a couple of years since we last looked.
It's pretty cheap and flexible, though I get the idea it depends on which room you're in.
it is decent, but the rent has just gone up for somewhere that isn't that great/is a complete ballache every time we play a show
Yeah, likewise. They could really do with a fucking lift.
Full disclosure: my uncle runs it. But they are great and extremely affordable.
As is the one in Paddington which I forget the name of
