53 for me. Too low if you ask me but there you go.
you said oh too
i think you meant of
I really fucked up that thread title.
a music snob.
and a lot of it falls into 'being a cunt territory'
I ticked all the ones which were like 'travelled a long way to see a gig' and none of the ones which were 'treated someone else like a prick'.
54 mokes, beat you by one
think music snobbery is pretty weird considering it's such a low form of art
I'd say 95% of that 33 occurred at least 6 or more years ago. It's legacy snobbery.
DiS has embarrassed itself (for a change).
I'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be tbh tbf...
and moved right on.
Felt good man.
Say I listen to shit music.
Not sure how that works.
hardly a snob at all.
So I'm clearly a cunt.
I don't mind music tbf
Couldnt give A FUCK
And most of the 'traits' I ticked don't apply to me anymore
"How much of a music snob have you ever been?" quiz.
The number of the beast
far too many questions
I'm a "Mary Poppins".
got 22 on the music snob one
disappointed. Thought it would be higher. Used to be called up on my snobbery but my tastes have gotten poppier and I can't be arsed talking about it much any more.
and enter the real world like the rest of us
anyone that scores less than 40 gets banned from the music board
-- Had your brain shut down upon being asked “what kind of music do you like?”
I HATE it when people ask me that question, if only because I just have no idea how to answer, and I stand there for a few seconds looking like a moron.
it is the worst question, trying to gauge the level of knowledge of the asker and what there reference points would be, can either come across as really patronising (the old youve probably never heard of it response) or be too honest confuse them and kill the conversation stone dead (literally cant say the words post rock without wincing). I normally freeze for a good 10 seconds or so and then resort to 'mainly american indie rock type stuff' hoping that is enough to explain I basically like guitar music but not whatever uk landfill indie
Always something to talk about with Kanye.
Not even particularly true.
thats cause i'm really self aware though and music snobs are THE WORST people. i didn't tick any of the ones about judging people because i've never done that (i'm not 12).
also: the fact that i know journos' names doesn't make me a music snob? i'm an inverted music snob who won't read reviews.
There's a crucial difference between being a snob and inflicting snobbery on others
people shouldn't waste time fretting about it and whether or not it fits in with others tastes. also the one's i've encountered have all been boring or relentlessly tried to outdo others or berate them
✓ Had your brain shut down upon being asked “what kind of music do you like?”
✓ Saved a hard drive because it had music on it?
✓ Heard of John Peel?
in it goes though. 15
Heroes all of you
what would be the appropriate response to a buzzfeed survey?
unless you're on about the people who haven't even replied
It's a bit painful to watch
I don't judge people for it. Almost none of my friends are into music. I am demanding in my tastes. It's my passion and my biggest hobby, and what I spend most of my money on. Don't see how it's a problem.
Read the posts. "Being a music snob is the worst" "relieved"
the quiz is obviously a load of shite but there's a lot of people falling over themselves to show how anti-snob they are

Fortunately I'm not into live music so that shaved off points.
as if any true believer would have a phase.
snobbery is more of an attitude
/intention thing. I've done loads of the things that might seem snobbish, but with only benevolent intentions or even self-deprecating undercurrents.
I just like what I like guys.
NO IM SERIOUS
i think you should deduct 28 points if you're only doing the survey cos you have a bad back and are passing the time
none of the mean ones though, just the normal reclusive ones
Would have been higher but I don't care much about the sound quality of digital music.
It's like comparing a a doctor to a homeopath
my black metal phase is still alive and well. also i remember during my 1st year uni (2007/8) i tried to get some friends to come see vampire weekend with me in london and they were like lol nah is this your weird metal and i was like no, no it's not and no one came with me. then a couple of years later one of the guys who said no had was all over vampire weekend's sacks on facebook and it did make me a little scornful
but idk the general story is there
Emergency call. Basically you've got until the end of the week to shape up or ship out. Anyone with a score under 30 is getting banned on Friday. Standards have been slipping too much, this is where it ends. After all, this is a music site.
didn't tick anything where I took the piss out of people, because I don't do that. but...yeah, 71
Instead of fighting it
But I'm happy to take my Cub Scout music snob badge.
Don't think there was any mention of karaoke in those questions. I'll add 10 to my score for my opinions about that.
the problem is other people liking them when they turn shit
Knew that black metal phase would come in handy somewhere.
(Fuck off, person about to make a Deafheaven joke).
but only because I wouldn't shame someone. I'm still very aware of the things the quiz thinks I might shame them for.
If you're a music enthusiast you inevitably become a snob, in the sense that you're bound to have less interest in the 0.1% of music that the radio plays and seek your tunes from elsewhere.
I don't dislike bands BECAUSE they're popular, but I do, with rare exception, happen to dislike them when they get popular. The way I see it, being a snob is the right of every music enthusiast. It's our reward for introducing music to clueless ordinary people for them to ruin.
40 something, should be higher really, should be a wipeout question that asks 'do you think people without at least a respectable taste in music dont have souls' that results in the maximum score
just got the best taste in music guys of all time
ha they got it right:
"There is no doubt that you’re waaaay into music, but you’re not TOTALLY intense about it. Like, you probably have other interests and a well-rounded life. There’s no shame in that!"
mostly because fuck vinyl.
dont care about vinyl or any of that shite. bun dat ting.
As mentioned though, lots of these don't apply too much anymore. I'm a lot more mellow about all of it.
Also not sure how knowing well known music journalists makes you a snob but whatever.
And they missed the easiest music elitist/snob trait... When they hear the following they want stick pins in their eyes...
"I'm not really into music" / "I don't really like music"
"I like a bit of everything" - but listens exclusively to Radio 1
"Eurgh, this kinda music is just so depressing"
your local bbc radio station
if we're ranking radio stations
So it is odd that I keep a running notepad doc of all my favorite releases of the year and add to it as I find more so I can better compile my AOTY lists? My wife says it is.
when you can just make a playlist ^.^ (listen to your notepad)
e.g. "do you ever take preloaded mp3s on your phone to a party (just in case)
In my day, I have taken my own mixtapes to parties just in case (when I say mixtapes, I literally mean tapes, of course............................................... c30 c60 c90 go.
PS I dont know what many of the questions mean (Im not 'plugged into the modern 'formats'')
