Anyone else watching this this weekend? Two and a half hours feels a bit daunting but still can't wait.
wasn't a huge fan of the first (not really my kind of film) but the second one does look pretty good
not sure if serious
it's better than the first i think. didn't really notice the length too much.
i'm mostly just really happy someone's released a film in 2014 i can justifiably compare to 1980s hong kong action films. the only complaint i really have is that with all the drab modern clothing it's harder to tell people apart in a fight, as in those older films you can usually just recognise characters from their bright rayon shirt or pastel suit.
shout out to Hong Kong Godfather https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHfhKsLPQ8g
modern martial films are mainly shit.
and I'm dead excited. I showed my very sceptical GF the first one last weekend in preparation. She fucking loved it and 'accidentally' twatted my head off the fridge trying to recreate one of the scenes.
Can't wait. Haven't been this excited for a film in ages.
mega, astonishing car chase scene and some cracking henchmen fights all framed wonderfully.
Found it a bit slow at times mind, Evans is not great at writing dialogue and there is a lot of it, could have snipped than run time by a good 20 minutes.
But yeah HAMMER GIRL
I hope he hasn't added too muh plot though
Just wow. (Agree with a lot of what has been said up there.)
It has moved on a lot from the first in terms of scale (especially the plot). Camera work seemed more adventurous and the fights are just as brutal. Felt some of the characters were on the edge of comic book-y but that's not necessarily a criticism depending on where you sit on these things.
Really loved it, hoping to see go again next week.
But when it does it's really something. The last 30-60 minutes are amazing. And loved baseball bat boy/hammer girl.
the violence is so visceral, isn't it? all the bone cracking and the stab squelches and the blood spurting. and the choreography! the prison riot scene was almost beautiful in a way.
since Old Boy?
This film was awesome, if not slightly padded out with "plot". Tch.
OOOOF, FUCKIN HELL.
although it didn't have the same intensity as the first one, which was so much better, but then it's better than everything.
... the main issue was that Uco or whatever was such a boring character with quite a cliched thread/arc, and as a result a good deal of the wasn't all that interesting. and the main character wasn't in quite a lot, which was a bit of shame because he's what makes it really. it was also was much more of a trad east asian ganster film similar to some Miike-style Yakuza films or something...
still was good though, with quite a few genuinely great scenes.
Properly, properly amazing. Best film I've seen in ages. Sure you could probably have some complaints about the plot being cliched or whatever but realistically I was completely engaged throughout and that final fight scene, oh my fucking god, not sure I've ever seen anything so tense.
10/10 fuck it.
