but i haven't :(
or is she resigning as an MP as well?
...any sign of that forty grand?
she'll presumably do her required penance on the back benches, and if Cameron wins another term make a return to the cabinet then.
i stand corrected
he "won" the office of prime minister, whether the conservatives "won" the election or not
You win elections. You don't win the office of prime minister.
He did win party leadership, though. So I suppose he has won something.
And even then, I'm opposed.
and they got rightly stripped
i can get behind this one though.
is something that Gove and a zillion other MPs said when they too got done for expenses scandals, so who wants to here it?
Even if she hadn't done anything wrong technically, she needs to be whiter than white on this, and if she can't be, well take the consequences.
If that was a normal employee in a company, they'd be hell to pay, possible job losses, even police called. If she's an cabinet member she "apologies".
It's bollocks. It's good she's gone. They need to be seen to be taking every expenses scandal as seriously as possible.
From the non-apology, to the lack of support shown by the front bench, claims of Cameron showing "leadership" in doing more or less nothing, Milliband jumping on the bandwagon at PMQs today, MPs overruling an independent commissioner, the appointment of a financial wizard to DCMS and the need to split the Women's Minister brief.
Utterly ridiculous and could have all been dealt with last week if someone had drafted a half decent apology in the first place. I'm sure a load of political nerds in Westminster'll be quite pleased with the last week when all it's really done is shown up how detached from reality Parliament still is.
but think she should have just accepted her inevitable fate and went straight away rather than an apology no-one wants to hear or believes.
although sadly not to the tune of many thousands because I'm not government employed.
I can't see anything that's really a problem.
I didn't understand what the first point about equalities minister and women was talking about.
Lembit Opik went a bit crazy on a 5 Live phone in about Maria Miller the other night. It was very funny.
For what it is worth I think she's got off lightly with (most) people thinking she is just an expenses cheat and not someone who sought to us use her position to bully a journalist into silence/
too right she got off lightly, she should be prosecuted
Not her personally but her staff. They ere taped 'reminding' journalists (I think it was actually the papers offices) that Maria Miller was heavily 'involved' with leveson
Done so in a 'hmmm interesing, just-saying, wink wink' manner.
When is a party/ any employer gonna have the balls/equivalent-non-gendered-version-of-balls to stand up to someone trying to resign and say "I don't think so, bud, you're here for LIFE".
