like it shouldn't be normal to need an entire room of your house where you get to express yourself and feel comfortable. probably means your life sucks.
then again maybe i just don't have the perspective somebody whose been married for a hundred years does.
"... "guys can do as
they please" without fear of
upsetting any female sensibility"
just a man sitting on a beanbag practising disgusting things to attract ladies and making what he thinks are sexy faces.
there is nothing else in the room.
the man has a pay cheque and he is looking from the cheque to the doll and back again, looking smug, occasionally flicking the cheque and saying "yes.".
the man will do this for hours at a time.
he's doing it because no-one else in the room is suited to the job, what with lack of testosterone and not actually being there.
he's the only person in the room.
A glorified shed at the bottom of the garden would be a bit sad
I go in there to listen to vinyl on headphones - the gf commented, "I suppose it's not so much a man cave as it is a hipster hovel."
She's done me there.
my friend has an amazing one in his house with a beautiful desk, sofa, book case, tonk PC and Dark Souls figurines artfully displayed
he does live in the middle of nowhere mind
I've got the whole thing planned out in my head already. I've been collecting music related prints/posters over the years that will be framed and displayed. Pride of place will be two *massive* original promo posters from Oasis's Knebworth gigs - one with Liam on and the other with Noel. They're about 6 feet by 4 feet though so to get them both framed is going to cost an absolute fortune!
that's possibly the most important piece of art of the 21st century so far
but I would love for both of us to have space to have a room/whatever dedicated to things we like to do? All my music equipment and maybe a telly and that?
I FEEL SAFE
NO ONE CARES ABOUT MY WAYS
used their sheds for though innit. Now we're all too metrosexual and moisturised to even dare think about going outdoors or anywhere without central heating so we just chuck a load of duvets and records in a spare room and call it a 'man cave'.
so I have no point of reference, but what did 70s men do in their sheds?
I like to think they just sawed stuff in half with a frown on their face.
I assume you're correct, just with added centrefolds dotted around the walls.
Wasn't mean that way, apologies.
did somebody tragically lose their shed to the extreme weather conditions this past winter?
Just worried it might look like I was jokingly equating not knowing your dad to me not having a shed. I've become a lot more paranoid about getting banned since fidel_catstro took over as Our Great Leader.
if you never had a shed to begin with, how could you miss that shed? sure, you'd go round to the other children's houses and they'd have a shed, and maybe you'd be envious and awestruck at the shed's petrol lawnmower, but you'd never cry yourself to sleep at night because your garden seemed emptier than other gardens.
It's mainly somewhere I can play video games with the sound cranked up without turning round to see the barely suppressed boredom and disdain on the missus's face, and a hangout when my nerdier friends come over. Computer, sofa and a TV with consoles hooked up, perhaps a couple of pictures not quite tasteful enough to hang in the lounge. Tabletop D&D set up with painted figurines (this definitely won't happen). I refer to it as a 'study' with the pretence of ever doing any actual work in there. No silly signs on the outside.
that he sleeps in sometimes and has a computer in and some books. mum keeps telling him to tidy it though. it's probably the worst room in the house but i'm in there now because the internet connection's good
us just full of boxes of random shit i havent got the energy to sort through and our dryinig washing
that's what all the yoot call their desks, anyway.
But when we first bought our house, I had what is now the nursery all to myself for 2 years.
Had the old sofa bed in there for people to stay over but also the old CRT TV hooked up to the Wii for late night, cosy gaming. Fucking loved it, gaming isn't the same in the lounge (partly as our Smart TV seems to be incapable of producing dialogue that's 1/5th as loud as gunfire). Also had all my CDs and a radio in there too for TMS and music listening fun.
All in the lounge or loft now... (Looks upwards, gazes into the middle distance, tears form in eyes...)
...into a series of man caves. My original man cave was awesome but is now the nursery as it's next to our bedroom (vamos, I feel your pain).
As such, converted the crappy downstairs spare room into a super-snug man cave - got my desk, a vintage map of the world, angle-poise lamp...the works.
Slowly turning the cellar into a cinema/gaming space. My girlfriend keeps re-filling it with crap, so it's a struggle to fight against the tide. Need to get a shed for the garden, and presumably an accompanying stash of vintage pornography. Might board the loft out too (and move up there probs).
Huge space and boarded, just need to insulate it really and it could be a great man cave. Had a house party once and about 3 hours in, couldn't find 6 of my mates. Found them up there eventually with some poker chips and a bottle of scotch.
...for a dead hooker from the sound of it.
where he's got a full on model railway set up. It goes round all four walls, so you have to crawl in and then pop up through a hole in the middle to man the controls. Totally shit and awesome at the same time.
I once took a picture of him in there at the controls (with a train driver cap on) 'cause he looked so happy.
And he was totally gutted as you'd expect. A few months later, he started just doing all the things he wanted though. Can be regularly now seen stood in his garden wearing pants and a string vest and has converted the whole of his downstairs into one giant Scaletrix track, knocking down a wall to do so.
I bet the curtain twitchers are gossiping a shit load.
He's proper happy. I think a man cave is required post-marriage otherwise you're going to end up taking some really lengthy shits.
used to have a room in their loft when I was growing up called the 'Bat Cave'. Had a massive painting on one wall to make it look like a cave, with a huge Two Face coin on it. Was full of Warhammer and games consoles. What a hero.
We're in the lucky position of having a large house so don't have to worry about treading on each others toes. If I fancy some time alone I just go and use the study on the top floor to play games on my PC, the consoles are in the lounge with the sky box. The turntable and records are in the drawing room.
I don't have much of my music gear in the house though, that tends to live in our rehearsal rooms. One day in the future I'd like to convert part of the cellar into a practice space.
Alright Scrooge McDuck.
Its where I keep my manputer
