What the fuck?!
this is awful.
don't have much to say about her in terms of an epitaph but i just hope everyone on twitter and in the media can keep their reactions on the sensitive side regardless of their opinions on her and her father. must be a horrible thing to go through.
awful awful stuff
you absolute cretin. Have too much of a hard on to even do a proper joke of it?
Have you got an alert set up now?
but sure okay pal
But you can take the night off, pal.
did I miss something here?
gave him a few hours off as I didn't really fancy the levels of aggro he was already pitching at. not sure what all this pre-emptive whining is about tbh
Or did you lose the instructions to the DiS Thought Monitor I sent you?
On how lazy and shit it was
So sad. Can't imagine how awful it must be for her husband, and her father has now lost two people at a young age. :(
just the fucking worst
The family has seen far too much tragedy as it is
To do so much good for people through Live Aid to be rewarded with so much pain in the family. I know he wasn't with Paula Yates when she died but he had to pick up all the pieces.
Can we not get too het up over bad taste puns? Not everyone's into crushing reverence. Allow some levity.
I tend to not kind of mind *some* joking, just as an antidote to the, as you say, crushing reverence you get with some of these situations... kinda to show that you can process death without being either 'WHATEVA MATE AHAHAHA SUCCUMBING TO MORTALITY AHAHA WHAT A DICKHEAD' or just 'THIS PERSON DIED AND THEREFORE IS HISTORY'S GREATEST PIONEER UNTIL I STOP BEING THAT BOTHERED ABOUT IT'.
A lot of those jokes though get on my nerves more because they're often hacky, unimaginative and lacking in any humanity or empathy (as well as cause, contrastingly, the people who tell them often seem to think that they're Bill fucking Hicks or something, smashing capitalism through the medium of a mass text message) than out of reverence.
Again, or something.
but crispin has a long history of shitting himself for attention in the worst possible ways in situations like this, so I've iced him for a bit to hopefully save a clusterfuck.
This is sad everyone be nice and chill pls x
so just to confirm, you've banned crispin not for something he has said, but for something you think he might say?
unless I've missed something?
them's banning words
that was one.
They can't seriously be running that
I've already seen a facebook post calling her selfish for taking drugs "if that is what happened".
You've got to hand it to the fuckwit brigade. They're always ready for action at all times.
people already jumpin to conclusions and making judgements
of course the people posting that are experts on what actually happened to her, even though the cause is currently unknown. JFC. People.
UH EXCUSE ME MATE BUT LIKE QUANTUM PSYCHICS AND THAT SAYS THAT THERE ARE ALTERNATE UNIVERSES WHERE SHE ATCHERLY DID AND LYK WE DONT KNOW AND I HEAD ABOUT SODDIGGER'S CAT ON THE BIG BAG THEORY SO YOU KNOW HOW ABOUT YOU THINK ABOUT THE FAX. I SEE U LYK SCIENCE WIEN IT DISPROVEDS GOD BUT NOT WHEN IT DISPROVS WOT U BELIFE
AN HNC IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND I KNOW WTF IM TAKKING ABOUT, YEAH?
is in not having fidel as a mod. Then he could ban people like that before they post such drivel.
that I want to acknowledge this is sad for a lot of reasons
even though I'm not hugely knowledgeable about her, this is a sad thing made only sadder by all the wider circumstances surrounding it...
burst out laughing there, nice one.
How much heartbreak can a family take. I didn't watch her TV shows or read her columns or know anything really about her but a mother that passes away so young is a tragedy.
that's very very young.
No injury, drugs or suicide note was found at the scene...I don't know why but the whole thing has kept me awake.
Really puts things into perspective
Didn't really have much of an idea of what Peaches Geldof was about to be honest. I did enjoy seeing this not too long ago mind. She takes a nice line here with a delightfully deserved lashing of cattiness too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY3v2KQkGmE
Taking Hopkins down is a bit fish/barrel shooty. But it was nicely done all the same.
I imagine her kids will grow up knowing how much she loved them at least :(
Say what you want about Attachment Parenting - all Peaches seemed to be doing there was striving for both an evidence-based and instinctive way to give as much love and compassion to her children as possible. How anyone can sit on a sofa and argue against that with a stream of pre-rehearsed vitriol is beyond me. But we all know that Hopkins isn't actually human.
think the last i'd seen of any of her output was the charlie brooker thing about her and fearne cotton.
and for that, I admired and liked her. She was always posting pictures of her boys and they seemed to have a lovely home life so its tragic that she will miss out on more of that.
I really feel for her sons and her husband.
...having a look on her twitter feed, Peaches Geldof On Social Media seemed to be the absolute distillation of what most on here seem to vocally despise, i.e. people talking about, and posting pictures of, their children all the time.
But that's a debate for another day. RIP.
i will say that it does provide a lovely thing for her children to look back on when they are older as it will always be there. They can see how much their mother loved them through photographs/writing about them on social media. She didn't do that for anyone other than her own enjoyment of seeing pictures of her children.
Gutted, possibly. All seems so tragic and I feel so sorry for her.
So who removed all the paraphernalia from the scene?
I thought conclusion is meant to be out today. The Times reported it last night but didn't think it had been confirmed.
Apologies if I've jumped the gun.
Addiction has an inherited component, it often runs in families so it's really sad that it isn't a complete shock and it probably is true. But still, papers should have tighter guidelines and not print things if they're not confirmed. Ongoing debate, I know that's pretty naive of me.
and also don't end your question with "no?"
I guess the question would follow as to whether this was a genetic predisposition or not.
who also died of a heroin overdose.
Doesn't really make a huge amount of difference to how sad this for her family.
also, if the reports show she had heroin in her system, she may not have even taken it whilst in the care of her son, it could be a postponed reaction.
I don't know, it's too sad to even discuss or debate something like this.
or 'opiates'. which could account for a variety of derviative drugs. If they've said heroin they must be fairly sure it is morphone diacetate, but I odn't know enough about pathology to know how they would determine this. (jag marks? Evidence she had smoked it?)
Anyone who has been folloing the slight ruckus that has been bubbling under the surafe and just blown up on my facebook feed will know my feelings on the matter (and will udnerstand I'm a bit exhausted now talking about it).
That's what it says so that's what it probably was.
^hasn't been folloing the slight ruckus that has been bubbling under the surafe
but apparently she did shoot up.
Really sad that those around her weren't able to help her, it's devastating the impact that drugs can have on a person and a family. I remember spending days sat in magistrates court watching cases come through, and so many involved drugs...
going to ignore all the papers for a couple of days i think
YES it's sad etc but come on guys.
dying every week, and leaving families in much worse circumstances than Peaches Geldof did. It goes without saying that it's really sad, but that sadness is being magnified because she was a public figure, so we all feel like we have a bit of a stake in her life. We don't. There is absolutely no need to be callous and cruel, but neither is there any need to talk about it in hushed tones, if you're not the person actually mourning.
Addiction can happen to anyone. Sadness, familial structures, representation.
Maybe it's just me but it seems to me like the imagery of addiction in wider culture is like that of an outlaw, like a social nomad stalking the edges of a docile frightened order. And it might be what attracts some people. Starts as rebellion ends as illness.
It's even sadder when it's someone who'd clearly tried to turn her life around, and the media coverage of this on top is just too much. Avoidance for me.
First one in ages.
I have a few unrelated stories to tell
not many posts make that grade
It's clearly pasta but looks like rice doesn't it? Cheeky little blighter.
I get it in Waitrose where they rank it as an "Essential" product. It's an enigma for sure.
but when I made keem mutter the other week and ran out of rice, I sued some orzo that I found in the cupboard instead, and I think was even better than woith rice (althogh I'm obviously a terrible heathen, crossing my cuisines over like that. What WOULD the italian godparents say?)
gotta no respect ey!
using pasta rice ey!
in your curry dish ey!
Two needles into the one vein?
Fidel another one for the cooler
when really it was more that it was a role in her death, whatever that means. They have to sell papers I suppose.
I like peaches geldof *
(*barely know who she was but I'm sure she was great because half the people in this thread are so broken hearted)
But I hope I wouldn't act like this in a thread about your death.
I wouldn't want you to do it to me, anyway. Maybe you think people are going overboard but come on.
I only asked a question.
The news papers have reported that her death was a "likely heroin overdose" and people seem to be bending over backwards to say it probably wasn't that and if it was she caught it off her mum.
The fuzzy brushes was a different thread!
I reckon using a thread about his grim demise to talk about fuzzy brushes would be quite a fitting tribute.
The CG defence.
but if you want to ignore what people are actually saying in favor of lowest common denominator trolling fair enough.
I've been trying to objectively get to the bottom of what's happened and you people don't like what you're hearing.
it's an incredibly opaque statement. It could be the lead role (e.g. an overdose) or it could have just made her body less able to cope with some other trauma.
Is there another stage to the reporting - i.e. a coroner's verdict? (I haven't been following this in any detail). Surely the most sensible and dignified way of reporting this would be to wait until all the information was to hand.
that there would be an inquest soon.
God that was shit
want their sympathy back (at least across the most considered and thoughtful social media platforms/daily mail comments section)
...worthy of an email update says the BBC.
fair game for a guiltLOL yet?
