man marries portly red-headed standup?
Old bit though innit
Obv love louis ck though
Old people moaning about technology. Fucks me off. (Louis, not you zxcvbnm :D)
Author and former British Children's Laureate Jacqueline Wilson was on BBC Breakfast this morning saying that technology is distracting, and not as good as a good, and playing video games is bad - even though she said "I have no knowledge of these type of games the children play" .
The former British Children's Laureate not knowing the first fucking thing about how children play today!
I actually had to turn the TV off. I'm so so so so so bored of old cunts telling other old cunts why young cunts are more cunty than they were as they did proper cunting and now these new young cunts are cunts with phones and computers.
I think you've gone TOO moker. I blame everyone on this site for fanning the flames. It's like when a sitcom character get's popular and the writers just keep exaggerating all the things that people respond to until the character is no more than a bunch of quirks and tics for the canned laughter to respond to.
Reign it in moker my friend.
I can't say anything today.
I'm citing an interview this morning with former Children's Laureate who couldn't at all understand how kids play today.
Then - for humorous effect - I replaced the word people with the word cunt to say that I'm bored of old people (cunts) telling young people (cunts) that their childhood was better without computers.
It wasn't better, it was different.
Is that more reasonable? I'd rather write it the way I initially did though as it's freedom of personal expression.
How YOU doin?
I didn't even READ it sister.
and then respond to what he's saying. You might not be able to see the other side because you're around the same age as Louis ck
Because the opening sentence
"Old people moaning about technology. Fucks me off. (Louis, not you zxcvbnm :D)"
Would suggest he hasn't.
This brings us to "not as good as a good" - OK
"The former British Children's Laureate not knowing the first fucking thing about how children play today!" - This isn't what she said at all.
Then he just says "cunt" a lot.
There. If there's a point in there then I've missed it.
I didn't realise I had to be so formal you sexy beast.
When I'm in threads where there's a linked article, I do always put if I haven't read it.
Elaina I await your humble apology
doing the thing you were shaming moker for doing so that you can be at one with yourself
The fully fleshed out Season 2 moker before he became a caricature.
the same generation. We can't see how the next generation will experience those life affirming moments, why should they be in the same way we do?
I asked a question in the other thread and brusma was like "wahhh you're mental" or whatever and didn't even address a single thing I asked (not even stated!).
Next I'll be accused of playing the victim so you know, whatevs!
WHO'S LAUGHING NOW
...as being at least 10 years out of date. However, that is an interesting take on it.
"Apologies to you dating men, but you're not as irresistible as you think"
"It's time we stopped using the 'boys will be boys' line."
my favourite bit of Louis CK being right about phones:
Non-contributing product sponge cunt
but was mainly conan's fault.
but as an extension of that idea in Infinite Jest, with the button that directly stimulates the pleasure centre of your brain.
you get that urge to pick up your phone, for whatever instant, shallow, gratification, whereas if you didn't, you'd experience more complex and substantial thoughts, feelings...
they disrupt your whole way of being, like you're skipping agitated and insatiable across the surface of life.
Leave it at home and give doing without it a try
not just picking it up out of urge, habit, whatever.
that displacement's always been there, just the method of it's changed. People drink alcohol for the same reason, or pretend to like sport.
For me the most bang-on part of what he's saying is at the beginning when he speaks of young people not learning empathy or being able to gauge right and wrong by how people react to what they do. I've never really thought of that before, or heard anyone else suggest it.
But a lot of what he says about this stuff runs parallel to Heidegger. This essay in particular - http://simondon.ocular-witness.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/question_concerning_technology.pdf - is (I think) really interesting w/r/t people's relationship with technology. It's written in typical Heideggerian (wilfully difficult, basically) - but if you can be bothered with it I think it offers some real insight.
Obviously take it with a pinch of salt 'cause the guy was a Nazi and a horrible bastard in a load of other respects.
to a crap host
on a shit programme.
Those big US chat shows are so so awful. They're the embodiment of a worse numbness and hollow emptiness than any any amount of internetting. Everyone who is on them ends up looking dead behind the eyes. I live it when US guests used to those shows come over here and appear on something like Carr (or maybe Ross a few years back) and the bullshit hosting isn't there and the star has to either let go a little and show some humanity or try and maintain their carefully constructed persona and end up looking like more of a shell than they do on the US shows.
Judgement is suspended on CK. Saw an ep of his show and was very underwhelmed after hearing fawning things about him from people who seem to talk sense. Bits I've seen of him since have done nowt to change that. Hmmm.
their equivalent to Stewart Lee, kind of. suits being middle-aged. really insightful and you actually get a sense of the person in his comedy. a master of gleaning humour from the myriad ways in which life is somewhat awful.
he doesn't come off as well on chat shows as he could because they are an awkward format - I don't think they're quite as bad as all that though.
Re: Louie (the TV show) - it's really worth persevering with, I can remember finding it difficult and not that interesting for a short while but after a couple of episodes something clicked and I fell in love with it.
Feel sorry for his kids, would be the equivalent of not being allowed to watch TV, a huge shared experience lost and being made to be different based on their dad's pet theory on mobiles,
Read more books than I would have otherwise. Missed out on being able to talk about pop culture in the playground.
is it one of those things that you hated at the time but are now glad of or do you wish you'd just been allowed to watch tv?
