Fucking scandalous. Adds to our fixture congestion too
this day being over!
Anyway can only see a Charlton win here considering none of the Leeds players have been payed and growing unstability of the club.
but it's finally put in an appearance. Actually plausible this year too, if only because there are about three dozen loanees to sell and Number Nine's contract has run down enough for him to be shifted on without our Chief Executive cooking the books and then taking a suspiciously ill-fated canoe holiday.
Bayern will play United off the park but go for a restrained, dignified two goal win.
He should go to Everton, it just feels right.
Hughes must be punching himself in the face he hasn't still got access to QPR's unrestricted bunce to load up on dross
Obviously Luiz is being mentioned a lot, but that's happened every summer for the last two years so not definite.
Torres and Ba? I'm hoping Eto'o stays (he deserves to) but can see him running off to the US or something. I think Cole will be at LA Galaxy next year.
It'll be a massive mistake of we let Lukaku go, in my opinion, though I know some fans are calling for it. What does it say to the 10,000,000 players we've got out on loan if Lukaku finishes in the premiership's top 10 scorers list two years running and we still get rid? Sturridge's current form is a bad enough advert for our hastiness...
I mean it would probably be best for him because going from regular football for the last 18 months to being back up for someone like Costa or Falcao might stunt his development, but I'd be desperate to hang onto him if I was a Chelsea fan. Courtois too, though that's slightly more complicated.
Plenty who are resigned to it, mind. Given that I've not missed a home game in about 6 years and could still count the number of times I've seen him in the flesh on one hand, I'm increasingly indifferent. He feels less a Chelsea player and more part of an investment portfolio.
Thin-skinned fans mainly who think he talks to the press to much and slags off Chelsea. Ironically they're the same fans who normally moan about the press twisting people's words.
Courtois is quite obviously brilliant, and only young, but Cech has been remarkably consistent for the past 3 seasons.
Mourinho wasn't slow in clearing players out in his first two summers and I can't imagine he'll be any different this time round.
I think Luiz will go. Seems clear to me that the club have serious spending plans and intend to toe the FFP line a bit longer. Luiz is the player who best balances being profitable and expendable. Mikel is in a similar position.
I think Lukaku is gone, too. As with Sturridge I don't think that will necessarily or at least primarily be a football decision. He'll have two years on his contract in the summer, so either time to back him or sell up for what you can.
With the likes of Marin, Romeu and Moses I expect it's just a matter of who bids, and for the first time I think Torres leaving is a realistic possibility- a lot of his fee has now been accounted for and he's run down enough of his contract for a Crespo/Veron/Shevchenko semi-retirement loan deal to be viable.
is like the first cuckoo. The sign of Spring. This could be the year where three season's worth of tapping up comes to fruition.
Luiz, Vermaelen and Vertonghen are all look imperious when they're in form, but they're all dedicated fans of the old brain fart.
He'd average 1 penalty per game in La Liga
Dante isn't playing for Bayern tonight. I reckon a solid 3-0 win for Man Utd.
I'd like to watch all 4 of these individually
A Carroll goal from a Downing cross.
At least he was free.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Man City at one end, Palace and West Brom at the other.
We'll almost certainly roll over and get tonked by 5 of those 6, but we'll win one and it's almost impossible to predict which. Would quite enjoy the spirit of Ludo Miklosko to make its presence felt on Sunday.
I remember when QPR were definitely going to be relegated because of their run in, and then inevitably they nabbed some points from one or two of the big boys. Probability innit.
When Samba Diakite ran the show. He is now playing for Watford and being booed when he comes onto the field, having been sent off on his début and then been booked within 3 minutes of coming on on his return
Bobby Zamora and Rob Green were the heroes.
Think they later slipped into obscurity too.
oh god, it's April Fools Day, that means you'll get some ridiculous stories and also loads of halfwitted fans suggesting something really unimaginatively bad is going to happen to a club they dislike and then when the reveal comes they'll hashtag it with #bantz or something else that shows they're about as valuable to society as toxic waste
but that's every day, isn't it?
"If you hate Newcastle clap your hands" never fails to raise a smile.
Bayern are in cruise control having wrapped up the league and are nowhere near as unstoppable as they were last season. They have a habit of leaking goals. Several key players missing. United’s champions league form has been relatively good. Rooney is in one of his hot-streaks. City and even Arsenal have all run this Bayern team close. All heading towards a United win IMHO
United through 3-1 on aggregate
and then there's just taking the piss.
i.e. saddest man in the universe
but last night i had a dream that i got raped, shot with a shot gun and left for dead and then i made a recovery and went to be oldham athletic's mascot for the day. the crowd gave me a right cheer.
enjoy your football thread :)
Partly because there was a thing on Football365 and partly because there have been some crackers recently.
Going to start with this winner:
god he's so bad.
and no "Terrible!"
What's the football thread coming to?
i'm sure i remember one for Coventry in like 1993-4 where he tries to boot it out for a throw, gets the mother of all slices and it goes round the keeper (presumably Ogrizovic?), or have i imagined that?
As Arsenal right backs.
they've done it AGAIN.
they have been better this year, dare I say Mark Hughes has actually done a good job
Inherited Pulis' squad, and achieved the same with it. What a master.
It's an achievement, considering how entrenched it must have been in the squad, and it hasn't gone totally belly up.
Hi Stefan, your friends sent me a message with this picture asking for a post. Not sure with that request if they like or dislike you ? But: congrats to leading your team as captain to winning this trophy. Congrats to being called „Mertesacker“ from your teammates because of your incredible good Mertesacker look And good luck with now not getting rid of this nickname anymore after this post !
Charlton Athletic are expected to clarify the situation regarding their goalkeeper Yohann Thuram-Ulien later. Amidst rumours he had refused to travel for Tuesday's Championship match at Leeds United, the club will provide an update for their fans.
The goalkeeper hasn't travelled and it's believed there is no injury. The 25 year old joined Charlton from Standard Liege on loan until the end of the season.
Might go, just for the lolz. (and the fact it's probably the last time we'll be playing in the CL for a while)
You don't want to have to give up your armchairreddoesntgo username.
didn't get to properly enjoy the last Bayern game on telly, much more fun if you submit to their uber alles awesomeness.
Lump on all the obvs faves for the world cup on betfair
Cash out when they reach the quarters
Who's getting relegated?
I reckon Cardiff, Fulham and Sunderland.
And well done to Pullis for saving Palace...
May I suggest iconic footballing hair? Inspired by Chico Flores and the sheer improbability of him getting his hair cut and it being even shitter than before (link worryingly close to NSFW...):
but that was probably the best thing that's happened all season / decade.
Chico Flores is detestable.
hands on hips, bellowing with laughter in the face of an angry Spaniard, like Sir Francis Drake with chewing gum and a bluetooth headset
It was 1992 and I was nine years old. The TV footage of Feyenoord-Spurs had that murky quality that evening away games in Europe had in the 90s (and well into the 2000s on Channel 5). Out of the gloom emerged a John De Wolf
...I have work to do. Basically John De Wolf had long hair and it looked cool.
(I have a feeling ohgood actually meant to say John Wark anyway - his real hero)
He was walking around my hometown (where he lives) in a tracksuit. I was in a cafe above the Holland & Barrett (now closed down).
I have no other memories
I wrote down my Dream Team of players from International Superstar Soccer Deluxe on the SNES based on who had the coolest hair.
As you were.
that I first beat the game on the hardest setting in a closely fought final against Mexico. I was Romania and I won 2-0.
and had resorted to long punts downfield to see it out. One of these resulted in my discovery of a sweet spot. Guaranteed goals from the half-way line.
I have no other memories.
Three crackers right there
A man with hair so wild
By the name of Trifon Ivanov
Was on TV, on and off
I have no other memories
: De Gea, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Büttner, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Giggs, Rooney, Welbeck.
(though vidic paired with one of the other three wouldnt have been terrible)
By all accounts played well against Villa and familiar with Bayern
on a Bayern win for all new customers. Which seems like a nice way to earn some free money
Can't recall ever seeing them 6/1 to win a home game. Don't particularly want them to go through, but i'm so fucking bored of Bayern. United, Atletico, Dortmund & PSG would be the most interesting last four for certain, but i'm not sure i fancy any of them to progress.
He looks like a man still trying to figure out how to control his own limbs...
Like watching a chimp that thinks he's human and doesn't know he's about to be put down.
Bayern have the ball for about eight minutes solid, a United player hooves it out for a throw, crowd cheers. Bayern have the ball again for about six minutes uninterupted, United player falls over, ref gives a free-kick, crowd cheers.
just ran out wide and slotted it.
FIRST QUARTER SURVIVED.
if Fellaini was a decent central midfielder and Welbeck wasn't a massive choke artist, United wouldn't be half bad.
not one for the neutrals
can't tell if the united support are really getting behind the team or if they're just making the most of their last champions league game for some time...
name on the trophy
Fuck off home Bayern, ya boring coonts.
things are happening
has it always been so?
what a racist
prob save it for tomorrow now
pretty much every time i've watched Bayern this season he's stood out as their weak link. quite a feat when you're playing alongside Jerome Boateng.
doesn't work when you've got no pace.
He's a holding mid, simple as
but at the same time, outrageous dive.
thought he was inevitably going to get a second yellow up against Ribery.
like the stark beauty of Orc poetry
what a goon
could make it interestizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
"It's your own time you're wasting!"
we're all very pleased blah blah cunt
in my encounters with fans of other teams.
don't know if that's just because I'm nice.
i thought they played very well tonight. Still eminently hateable, and their fans are bad people
but there are people that bristle at the thought of us, and people that are fairly ambivalent, because it's not their team, because better the devil you know, because it's only game, etc...
are we supposed to be pleased because they're english or something? should be presented neutrally
as if to make you feel ashamed if you don't want the English team to do well.
at football training tomorrow. or for a bit more after.
The way Buttner needs at least three seconds and a five yard run up in order to clear a ball.
Didn't think United were bad. If they had better quality up front, in the middle and...basically everywhere, they could easily have won. Bayern looked incredibly complacent for most of it.
and whenever Buttner had the ball and Giggs was in front of him.
but yeah, title-winning team and that. also one of the greatest CB pairings ever, rolling back the years.
were Welbz' and Chicarito's turns. I reckon the second might have even resulted in a goalscoring opportunity. SKILL, anyway.
but if you'd said Muller, idk; I'm fond of him with his ungainly and improbable eminence, but if you'd said Muller? that's okay.
and his brother is a United fan.
but you can't deny he has a bit of a look about him. like, he has the exact kind of chiselled, mean look of an SS officer. spiteful and angular.
but the number of times tonight Bayern took an extra touch to effectively intercept their own pass when it was otherwise playing a team-mate through into space was absurd.
Man Utd favourites to win the second tie?
booked my flights to Lisbon already.
apparently you basically just suffered the most unfair 0-0 ever
but our commentators make out that we're in control of every match so it's difficult to tell. not surprised it finished 0-0 though cos we have no goal threat without hanson. probably only need another point to stay up now (y)
basically said it was 'the perfect away performance except without a goal'
really hope i never have to hear kieran o'regan's voice again
it was a nice (i.e. manky) touch having an ex-Charlton player (Simon Walton, here for all of 5 minutes) constantly reminding everyone of his passionate Leeds support. he's currently playing for another football league side. no-class
although not the lowest-placed football league side in that top 15 - Wirral and Bristol both have clear relegation candidates in L1 and nobody higher
and Coventry are 1 GD worse off, but 13th-biggest PUA
wtf am I doing
