Hi guys. Good weekend? I am full of dread today. Nice.
and the room is too warm and I've been up since four so flagging already at 08:27. Gah!
in the end just got up and came in early. Pointless just turning over and over
My weekend was Ok. Played X-Men Monopoly on Saturday night which is much better than regular Monopoly. That's pretty much it.
I have loads to look forward to but after a weekend of no sleep and lots of booze I get very existential. I think the main thing is I've got a full day and a half of training tomorrow and Wednesday. Maybe it's that?
Omg X-Men Monopoly? Sounds rad.
From last night. Hope no one notices.
I bought my bf a hammock for his birthday last week and we put it up yesterday. I fucking love it! Work is so bloody inconvenient, I just want to lie in the hammock all day today. WHY CANT I DO WHAT I WANT?!
I had to get one of those ones with a stand
is to have a garden with two sturdy trees close enough to string a hammock between.
most of the day? Maybe one of those people that collects money for sun loungers on the beach? Or someone who rents paddle boats out.
I want to do one of those jobs.
need to leave the house in 4 minutes. :''''''''''''''(((((((((((((
...and spent the rest of the weekend hiding away.
Not really in the mood today
yesterday was my first "can't face showering or dressing" of the year so far :/
Pretty sure mine was New Years Day
I went to a pal's 30th birthday shenanigans in Oxford on Saturday night. There's an all night bus going back to London so I didn't need to worry about getting back but I have a weird memory blank between the hours of about 1 and 5am - I remember being in a bar and then all of a sudden I was waiting at a bus stop at Victoria. Didn't get in until 6am. Maybe that's why I'm full of dread today. Hate those blanks.
Fri night for me was just a heavy night then went on till the wee small hours of sat, totally fucking drained me to the point where i had no chat for anyone else the rest of the weekend
had a curry, got a haircut (too short), and saw the LEGO movie, finally. was 9/10, in case you were wondering.
(I've seen it and yeah it's completely ace)
that's the first time i've been to the cinema this year, and the first time since The World's End last year. It cost £17 FFS.
You was robbed, mate.
Unless of course you were down in London, which would be embarrassing.
I'm sick, admittedly this was not the top of my game.
Seventeen quid is probs worth it for that film anyhow.
it was £10 for me, and £7 for my "student" wife. She has a non-expiring University of Waterloo (Canada) student card. we just keep using it until someone questions it. but still FFS.
That'd be great, ta =D
it was very misleading
Has made me quite emotional
Still don't feel great. Boss is being a cow about my being off sick. Have been given extra "non-work" work to do, presumably as penance.
Fuck off, Monday.
but this time, it was just a glimpse of his technical jacket.
that's my back-upo techinical jacket. My other one is MUCH more technical.
tello me what you wanna do nowo
(in caps, obvs)
And have accidentally walked out of the house looking pretty much exactly like a circus ringmaster
Serious question - where do you even get this stuff? Is there like a speciale shoppe or something for old-timey waistcoats and such?
The shirt is from your average nice shirt shop, and the coat iiiiiis from a department store.
I've said it in that order because I'm clearly trying to put off the answer about the waistcoat.
...that dressed everyone i went to school with :)
Just laughed on the train at the thought of loads of tiny people in tweed going "good day" to each other constantly as they skipped through the playground
the big racist!
as a man who likes a good bow tie I knew you'd approve
Sorry for the delay big man
i know you're busy with Drizzy. ;)
I did warn you with the original description to be fair
To even hate the kids on my bus singing about going to disneyland.
I have no idea why I'm going to work.
Also I left my laptop there on Friday, so
*blocks two spam accounts*
*throws Blue Steel*
Meant I overslept nicely this morning.
due to alcohol over-indulgence I'm fairly certain. But may have something to do with the clocks changing too. I don't like change.
Luckily, one week til holiday, so fuck you all very much.
Went to a wedding reception in Birmingham on Saturday, got hammered on ale. Was a good night though. The groom's ska band played for a while (with him on drums) and they were great. Hour's less sleep and then back home to do Mother's Day duties.
Was knackered yesterday, did a bit of stuff in the garden too, probably shouldn't have. Also watched Breaking Bad, only 3 from the end now.
Not feeling the love this morning.
Dealing with hangovers is becoming much more difficult really quickly. Just a couple of years ago it was fine, now I only need to have 4 pints on a Saturday night, and when Monday comes round I'm still groggy. Fuck this.
weekend was one of those ones where I didn't do much but I didn't mind. my flat is a nicer place to be now it has more proper furniture so that helps.
this morning I was wondering when I was going to see johnny foreigner as I thought it was around the start of April. checked and turns out it's tonight, which is awesome. good thing I checked though as I could easily have missed it :/
played football saturday and sunday. saturday i played on the wing. I've never played there properly before. It hurt. And it was in hatch fucking end ffs. Sunday played too. Legs ache today.
Moving flat tonight woooooooooooo
Getting my last paycheck though today from my old job so i'm going to buy loads of nice fruit and make a smoothie
All in all, 6/10.
I had a chilled out weekend.
Saw new Captain America film which was great fun <3 Marvel.
Spend most of it pottering around.
Off to Berlin on Saturday so this week can do one.
Oh apart from Johnny Foreigner tonight!
screwed up getting into Under the Skin, so did that instead - so much better than I was expecting.
In other middlebrow media news, cracked into s2 of Hannibal this weekend.
It could've done with maybe 15 minutes trimmed and I was a little disappointed with an aspect of the SHIELD plotline (don't want to say too much to avoid spoiling it for others!) but it was so much fun and I think putting ScarJo as co-lead was a great decision. Really nice to see them stretching it a bit and throwing in different genres.
Also oddly light on the comedy, given the tone of the most recent Iron Man/Thor films and that the directors' CVs are 90% Community and Arrested Development episodes.
ALSO that mid-credits scene. new Avengers film soon <33333
fuck you Monday
I managed to safety pin it...still looks rubbish though and I got a meeting shortly...eek. i'll have to make sure my butt doesn't go anywhere visible (it's hard).
went to Lewes for a musical/experimental art showcase called Tiny Planet. Ate lots of delicious vegetarian food and listened to live acoustic music.
On Sunday, we finally said goodbye to one of my housemates who's moving to Canada, it's a great opportunity for him but it was pretty sad to see him go.
Reminding us about what can be great about the gaming medium.
what seem like fairly arbitrary figures in my head could come back to kill me though. "yeah, i'll just offer ten grand more, right?".
buying houses is silly.
you found somewhere?
I use you as a sort of barometer of whether I need to bother growing up.
It's why I'm basically a man-child
You'll be quite attractive to the vendor if you're a first time buyer and you've got a mortgage in principle. cos there's no chain. When we put an offer in on a flat ours wasn't the most but we were still accepted cos of that. (but then didn't go through with it anyway and then it ended up going for 15k more than we offered wtf)
or even better, one hundred grand.
fantastic! maybe i'll get one instead of a flat. probably bigger anyway.
It's a transporter conversion. About 80 metres long.
what's the best music to listen to on crap pc speakers?
Go on, you know you want to.
was a video of some Walter Sobchak types using sharp knives to hack up meat and pigs heads and rope. what a set up for the week.
also watched that film about diy in manchester as it's apprently on youtube now.
after this i have one more piece of work (due end of April) and one exam (end of May) but i'm done until September.
it's only march for fucks sake
Then the dissertation was due in june. Took the shine off of spring/summer :(
I prefer it, I couldn't cope with another term right now and the extra time off lets me work more, it's pretty much how I stay afloat financially.
one more year then you'll be a fresh-faced graduate, all wide-eyed and green and optimistic to go out into the world
how's the job market going?
I read that there are *loads* of jobs going there.
As an aside, does any of your course cover smart/future cities? It's an area i've become increasingly interested in, and I wonder if it's being taught to undergrads.
You might do on a proper planning course though, but there's not too many of those left. Most at the moment are like mine, a blended planning/surveying course.
but i get the impression you're done with public sector
I'm not sure I want to go back into local government, at least not in England. I also really don't really want to work in development control!
weekend was a goodun. got shitfaced and saturday and just kept hugging everyone, must have been really annoying.
What happens if you get a bladder infection?
between reading and london? or is that the price i;ll have to pay to meet any of you CHUMPS in a few weeks?
(when your life's in a mess)
it goes from Calcot which is a pain to get to if you don't know the area and tbh I can't think of anything worse than coming back to Reading on a coach when you're a bit pissed.
£18 is fine really
but only by making it considerably more expensive. It's usually £20+ for me but then I never plan it in advance
Which is usually better value unless you know you're not going to need the tube
espesh for a one off. but yeah, i have an oyster card for tube/bus travel if needed
But yeah, if you've got your oyster sorted then £17.70 is as cheap as it gets
cheers team LME/RME
when you can't get a seat and have to stand by the toilets the whole way
if you've got a railcard though, it's actually not bad value!
(otherwise know as a one day travelcard), which works out maybe a bit cheaper than just buying a rail ticket and then paying for tube/bus separately. with a travelcard it's £22.20 according to national rail. which probably isn't worth it if you'll only get a tube somewhere central and then one back again.
the whole day? that could actually be good value.
Yeah like I said it depends what your plans are. When I'd go for the day it's what I'd get because it's much better value.
#onedaytravelcard #wanker anymore.
You're not a reject
so it'll be probably about the same cost, but it would enable more flexibility. now, if i can only find on the TFL site where the reading tickets are...
fucking hell, i love transport, but london always make me feel oddly inadequate. :(
it's best to buy it on the day from a machine at the station tbh
there are never any discounts on tickets from reading-london, ever, even if you buy in advance, so don't worry. just make sure you have 5 minutes to get a ticket before the train you want to get leaves because the refurb means the station is absolutely massive and space-like
b) get a bus
c) nah pretty much stannard price, m8. Unless there's a not peak time version?
£400 for the train down? ffs!
First class train is the least compensation he can expect
feel okay actually - 65 emails, not too bad; some stuff that was broken when I left has been fixed, which is ace.
GOING FOR WINE
and it was REALLY good and I was so scared of going into the balloon room as I fear balloons popping near my face and it was scary but then it was SO FUN.
Nice town you have there thewarn. Went to the botanical gardens, punting, Kings college chapel, Fitzwilliam museum and The Eagle. Enjoyed it very much.
and everyone looked like hyacinth bucket
saw my newly pregnant mate from home, got a ton of notes done for a spoken word thing i'm going to record, took my mother to see manic street preachers and got wire's pink flag on delectable vinyl - pissed down and sun shone in perfectly equal and correct measure.
i'm totally checked out as far as day job goes...my mind is already in new orleans where we'll be heading to this saturday.
i think i want some guinness instead of lunch today.
did anyone else see captain america btw? i've a couple of questions of logic...
What are the questions?
why would tony stark help them build those massive floating WMDs when he'd vowed never to build a weapon again back in the first iron man?
why did nick fury's dodgy eye work in the scanner when his regular eye wouldn't? is it someone else's? or was he once someone else?
or am i hugely stupid?
thanks in advance.
can anyone confirm?
bummed around on a film set (student film) for the first time, and it was fun
massively fancied one of the one of the crew, although I'm sure I came across total clammy-handed weirdo. and now I'm posting this on DiS, how incredibly embarrassing.
