Let's talk about the video games of our mis-spent youth(s)
and Quest for Glory (one of the best series ever)
<3 Sierra adventure games
Had it for Master System.
You were a bike/car/plane with a gun. It was great.
Also recently got Gunstar Heroes on iphone. Yessssss
bought that, spent the whole week round at my mate's playing it.
time joke there
switched to: JET SET RADIO.
Is it worth £2?
Really good fun
I played mario and sonic. And pacman!
Some other shit
it was a lame-o game for lames
My favourite arcade game ever.
Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles
Spent countless hours on a free game called Super Bub, too.
spent ages on age of empires and red alert. Downloaded red alert the other week, isnt as good :(
if you like Red Alert and AOE
is still amazing.
Jet Set Willy 2
+ Nodes of Yesod
+ Beachy Head 1 & 2
Beachy Head 2: Get Chalky.
Won't make sense.
it'll just have markee calling you Jim Davidson.
released in 1999, where the player takes on the role of a fictional suicide helpline operator, who must speak with desperate people on the verge of throwing themselves from the UK's infamous Beachy Head. Progress through the game is achieved by persuading people not to jump, while the issues and complexities of the calls increase. The game was banned for several years in many territories due to the perceived 'traumatic' nature of the calls, with multiple reference to terminal illness, addiction and sexual assualt."
Got actual blisters playing that fucking game.
- a boy and his blob
being completely stuck there before you've even figured out what the fuck is going on
valuable life lesson
I imagine most people threw the towel in on the swimming level where you're defusing the bombs. I got to Shredder once though cos am a trooper
heavily associate that game with Weapon Called The Word by The Levellers.
had got past the water but still don't think i'd gotten more than a third of the way through. always seemed to run out of missiles and be stuck in the van.
how is 'Contra!' a Japanese name??
Treasure Island Dizzy
The New Zealand Story
That game has a very strange atmosphere. Weirdly depressing, almost?
maybe it's just nostalgia or something but so many of those older games seem really melancholy
Jet Set Gemini
Diddy Kong Racing
Hated Banjo & Kazooie
Other than Conker's Bad Fur Day, obviously. You could piss on people!
I've still yet to play Conker's Bad Fur Day. I've always put it off as the original N64 game is really expensive for some reason.
I actually downloaded this over the weekend on my laptop, and played it using my xbox controller. The teams and leagues have all been updated for this season. I'm well up for a revival.
The Lucky Dime Caper (GAMEGEAR!)
There's a song from it which is constantly on loop in my brain:
that's an incredible piece of music
Awesome game so it were
The game where Michael Jackson has to rescue kids. By grabbing his crotch and screeching 'owww!'.
she said "MICHAEL!"
forgot about that
8 bit MJ songs, Bubbles the chimp appeared on his head out of nowhere and told you where to find Mr Big, you could make all the baddies do the Moonwalk with you if you pressed a certain button combo... also little things like opening car boots to see if the kids were in there.
I just remembered Abe's Odyssey.
So good. SO good.
Pretty boring when all's said and done, though.
Looked hardcore, so easily killable.
Every boss after that was hard as fuck.
used to take him out in two player mode
than when it appeared like so:
Just thinking about it makes me furious.
there must be some of you here.
I mean the original Microsoft [year] Flight Sim.
Spent a lot of time playing Microsoft Golf and Fury³. Haha they sucked.
at the time, it was like playing Independence Day.
Just the 9 CD-ROMs, then.
'Installing Direct X 6'
Played the absolute shit out of that.
Fucking loved that game :)
JAMES POND 2: CODENAME ROBOCOD
the version with the editor where you could change literally anything. Used to change the injuries so you'd get players out for 12 weeks with shit like `testicular torsion`.
I didn't know it at the time, but being a 13 year old boy was the absolute best thing.
Some platform game on the spectrum or similar where you had to climb through windows to shag women or something
Mark Shanley's older brother's mate had it I swear
Milk Tray Man Simulator '88
With this stick-man football game where if you held down the 'Q' key the players would slowly lift of the pitch and start somersaulting around in the air. Mate's brother caught us doing it once and freaked out that we'd broke his computer... Heady days
that I remember playing for ages with a friend - it was a bit like hocky, all these guys in armor and helmets chase around a spiky ball and beat each other up whilst trying to score. I keep thinking it's called Rollerball or Deathball or something like that. It's bugging me.
NO WAY WAS I OFF, IM STILL ON THE SCREEN
YOU TOOK A SHORTCUT. HOW IS THAT EVEN ALLOWED?
*later, takes shortcut and it pays off.*
HAHA SUCK IT
I'm undoubtedly the greatest Micro Machines player to have walked this earth.
You should see me on the pool table track, bud.
Really there are only three tracks that truly matter:
and honourable mention to Bathtub Burnoff (and another to Rim Runners just for the name).
v3 was the daddy version of Micro Machines. I assume that's what cocodaLOL is talking about.
There is the banked oval in all its glory
where your mastery over your own machine and how you can dispatch your opponents is all that matters.
Fucking hell, I wish I could have gone pro.
Micro Machines Military
I SWEAR YOUR CAR'S FASTER THAN MINE. THIS GAME IS STUPID!
If you didn't bother making a turn then often everyone would follow you. Then you'd brake before the edge. Particularly funny with dumper trucks because they have more time to realise they're heading over the edge.
every single event was hard as nails apart from footbag which was just incredibly hard. bloody surfing
because I was SO GOOD at california games.
Remember when you finally pulled off some serious moves on the skateboard? Best moment.
Horrible shit game, never finished it.
still the best movie tie-in game
or lion king on megadrive
(1, 2 and 3)
LIGHTS OUT, GUERRILLA RADIO!
it was shit and weird
Not Global Gladiators - some obscure Mario 2-a-like repurposed for a cash-in if I remember correctly. It was called McKids and it was actually pretty good for a NES platformer.
Shadow of The Beast I, II and III
Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3
Beneath A Steel Sky
Curse of Enchantia
Legend of Kyrandia
Bill's Tomato Game
Turrican I and II
James Pond 2: Robocod
Sword of Sodan
Defender of The Crown
Day of the Tentacle
Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis
Bureaucracy (text game that I never completed because my blood pressure kept on getting too high & giving me a heart attack. In the game.)
The Commander Keen games
The original Prince of Persia
Donkey Kong on the gameboy - the one with the yellow cartridge. Man I loved that.
it felt so cutting edge.
i'm starting a new game of Metroid (NES)
If only they'd do a new one.
Batman the Movie
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
The Lucky Dime Caper
Streets of Rage
rocket night adventures
track and field
I had that on the Gameboy and completed it in 2 days. I was so disappointed that I completed it so quick that I took it back
Super Monaco GP & Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP
highlight: hitting the guy waving the flag and seeing him disappear over the horizon
World of Illusion
highlight: despite being a co-op game, repeatedly using your cape to stun your sister so you could get ahead and get all the items etc
highlight: putting the mental swerve cheat on and scoring goals from your own penalty area as a result. standing in front of the keeper and blocking his kicks
On the little missed BBC Archimedes. That and Mad Professor Moriarty.
also ! Death Chase, Pole Position
Great atmosphere and sense of freedom for its day
SILENT HILL 2
this thread has gotten me very excited
Battle an Atari 2600. Two tanks trying to shoot each other. Videogame perfection.
Xenon 2. Mainly for the Bomb da bass track.
So many... Chase HQ, Psycho Fox, School Daze, Supercars 2, Zool, Speedball 2, Indiana Jones & Fate of Atlantis, Wimbledon, Desert Strike, Cannon fodder...
You are making me remember that game, really great.
Desert Strike was proper hard, had it on the Lynx.
Cannon Fodder was awesome as well, just proper hard and such a shame on the SNES, that it sent you all the way back to the start.
So start with the Spectrum ZX:
Run the Gauntlet - Loved this game, was based off the TV show and was a good port. Only problem was, the tape kept crashing, as you had to run it after a race or two.
Ghostbusters - Was alright, but was just so samey
Knightmare - Couldn't get past the second room, as I didn't know what to do. At that time, there was no internet or guides, so I didn't go any further.
Destruction Derby - Awesome game, completed it a few times. This was the best Derby type game to me (others might say Carmegeddon, but some of the tracks were too long)
Quake/Doom - Among the batch of the first FPS released. My favourite was Quake. Remember having 8 player death matches in College during lessons, awesome
